Owner description: Bask in the unabashed opulence of this palace, decked out in colored marbles and gold plating.

Palace was closed when we visited, but it is worthwhile going up to the nice square it is situated in. The Palace itself looks almost like something out of a comic book or a cardboard cut out of a disney fairytale palace. However, I am assured that it is indeed very old, but had been cleaned recently for Prince Albert's wedding! The view from the little area beside the Palace is beautiful.

It was closed when we got there, but we enjoyed the walk around Monaco; the cleanliness (no dog dirt compared to Nice) the well tended green islands in the town. Very high rise development in this town.

You get spectacular views of the French Rivera on the way up and when on top of the hill here the palace is perched. There are shops, cafes and museums up there. We had good ice cream as well. There's slices of history all around. We missed the changing of guards which others say is a must-see however.

Nice clifftop views from here and a lot of shops and restaurants very close at hand. It was a palace and pretty standard

It's perched high on a hill, with fantastic views of the harbour below. A mix of architecture that in places dates back several hundred years, and in other parts is much more recent. It was smaller than I expected, but then Monaco is a small country. It's been the home of the Grimaldi family for many generations now.

Best time to visit is around 11:55AM when the changing of the guards ceremony takes place. Police cordon off all the surrounding streets during the ceremony, so may as well stay and watch. It's quite interesting and a bit of local pageantry.

Nearby is the Monaco Cathedral, final resting place of Prince Rainier and his much loved wife Princess Grace Kelly. It's also a must see.
