“Prince's Palace”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

Perched high above the harbour and a short stroll from the cathedral lies the Prince's Palace.
It's located in a large paved square on a cliff-face and reminders of the history of this town are everywhere, including original canons and canon balls when the palace was part of the fort.
Well worth a look, if not for the palace itself, then for the breath-taking views across the harbour and Monaco.

“Palais du Prince (Prince's Palace)”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

Originally an old Genoan Fortress (1191-1215), the Palais du Prince today is the official residence of Grace Kelly's son and his wife Charlene Wittstock. I appreciated the simple but elegant exterior Itailanate style of the palace with it's outstanding views of the harbor. The changing of the guard occurs at 12 noon and it lasts less than five minutes. Try to be there a little before 12 so you do not miss the ceremony. The Interior is in sharp contrast to it's exterior simplicity. The palace is open to tours between April-October and costs about $10 USD. For the cost of a ticket you can see the Throne room were official receptions are held. Luxurious state rooms which are reminiscent of Louis XIV. The Mirror Gallery which you must pass through is also extraordinary as it imitates Versailles with 16th century frescoes of mythological figures on the walls. The highlight for me was the Napoleanic museum. The overall effect was more museum than palace. What I did not like was the fact that photos of any type are not allowed. I do think the palace represents good value and can easily be included with St. Martin's park and the Musee Oceanographique de Monaco which are within short walking distance. If the flag is up the royal family is in.

“Smaller than what I imagined”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

Visiting the Prince's Palace was something I had on my bucket list so I was glad to have the opportunity on a recent cruise stop to Monte Carlo. This is certainly no Buckingham Palace - quite small but nonetheless has the Grimaldi family history and some of the rooms are very beautiful. The family portrait was one of my favourite things here. The location is spectacular and you can get some breath taking views of Monte Carlo from the area surrounding the Palace. If you are in Monaco and have the time, it is worth a visit. A good tip is that you can get a discount if you pick up one of the guide books.

“Bit Dull”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

Not much to see, only about 10 small rooms open, nothing exciting. An audio tour was available in about 5 languages (English one of them)

It was only 6 Euro, so shouldn't have expected much! The changing of the guard at 11:55 every day is free and more interesting.

This palace is situated at the top of old town, the palace is beautiful with the current prince in residence. Watch the changing of the guard at lunch time it's very good.
