The palace is magnificent. We took a rewarding video tour of the palace and strolled through the catherdral and gardens. Prince Ranier married Grace Kelly in 1956 in this palace. If you are visiting Monaco, a visit to the palace should not be missed.

My wife and I are big mansion/chateau/palace fans, so could not pass up the opportunity to tour the Prince's Palace at Monaco. So, 6 Euro apiece later, we found ourselves wandering the public wing of the Palace, audioguides in hand.

The interior courtyard, followed by a series of opulantly decorated historical rooms, was covered in thirty minutes. Rick Steves amusingly seemed to write off the Palace as a "if you've seen one, you've seen them all" sort of deal, but we did enjoy what we saw, with much of the remarkable 400 year history of the Grimaldi's and their small fiefdom adequately reviewed on the audio recordings. Much of the palace is still actively utilized, thus the tour is quick and relatively limited.

This may be the one landmark of this nature which has no rest rooms or gift shop...in fact, noting that no interior photography of ANY sort is allowed, i.e. with or without flash, it was surprising and disappointing to note that we could not find postcards featuring any of those interiors for purchase at the many souvenir shops lining the Place de Palais and side streets.

In summary, it was our opinion that there was enough history and lavishly decorated rooms to make this a worthwhile stop while in Monaco,

The point about this place is that it is still part of the government of Monaco. The rooms are similar to ones we have seen in French chateaux, but these are actually still used. A pity you can't take pictures inside.
I can still remember the 1956 Royal Wedding from when I was young but never knew much about the Monaco royals, so this was very informative.
