Very interesting History of the Grimaldi family including the marriage and tombs of Princess Grace and Prince Rainier.
Not to be missed. It is lovely to sit for a while and just take in the atmosphere.
It certainly gets busy but don't be put off.

“Princess Grace & Prince Rainier rest here”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

And that is really the reason to go. It is beautiful inside, dark and this is NOT one of the great Cathedrals of Europe. It was built 100 years ago and as much of Monte-Carlo is, it less then authentic. BUT, you can walk through in less than 20 minutes and for a minute you can feel a part of the history of Monaco.

It could be that I was "churched out" by the time we got here, as we were on a whirlwind trip to some incredible places and did see some absolutely incredible Cathedrals ~ I just wasn't that impressed somehow. It is a place of pride for the city though and there is some great art in here.

The bus from Monte Carlo (which costs one euro) will drop you outside the Oceanographique museum, which is just a few paces from Monaco Cathedral.
Please bear in mind that this is a working church, a working cathedral and be respectful of it a such as a lot of people who visit here don’t give a monkeys about respect. Tour groups stomp in, chatting loudly and ignore everything and everyone in the cathedral in their onward march to the grave of Princess Grace, (which is positioned at 10 O’clock)
Princess Grace and Prince Rainier and all the princes of Monaco are buried here, under the floor and you can view their grave floor markings. Princess Grace’s tomb usually has flowers on top.
But do yourself a favour, stop rushing around trying to see everything for a minute, take a pew and be still and wonder at the history in this place and just take a moment for yourself.

“Poor, very poor.”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

San Nicolas Cathedral is very poor. Other than the touted on the internet. Not worth visiting it. Monte Carlo has numerous interesting attractions and even the Tulips in the gardens of the avenues are more beautiful that this modest church.
