“lovely comfortable hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2010

stayed at Xalet Verdu with my son for the first week of Easter on a snowboarding holiday. Very good hotel, would recommend and would definately stay again. Staff very friendly and helpful, very clean rooms and quite spacious. I am a vegetarian and on booking in I asked if they could cater for me, the man on reception knew immediately that I don't eat meat or fish and informed the kitchen. I didn't know what to expect as I have had difficulty in GB. There was always something suitable for me at the buffet breakfast and the evening buffet and I had a different veggie meal every night. The food was pretty good with plenty of choice. We only had one complaint about the hotel itself which is it was too hot in the rooms.

Stayed at the xalet verdu hotel whilst skiing. Nice, good value, clean hotel which is within walking distance of the gondola (approx. 300m / 5 min walk). The room was clean & spacious with a wall mounted portable TV (CNN & Eurosport were the english speaking channels), a good sized bathroom and nice deep bath ( essential for easing my aching muscles after skiing!!) We were staying half board and thought that the food was great (but we are not fussy eaters). Good buffet style breakfast including cereal, croissants, pain au chocolate, rolls, bacon & scrambled egg, cooked meats & cheese etc. The evening meals included a buffet style selection of starters (eat as much as you like) which included salads, fish, pasta, cooked meats etc and, to be honest we would have been perfectly happy with just that. However there was also a choice of 3 main courses, of which 1 was fish and the other 2 were meat. There was then a choice of 3 desserts which were usually an ice cream (Walls), a cake or fruit. The staff were friendly and helpful.
You can store your ski's in the ski locker in the garage which is handy & saves you money using other lockers. It is free to do this but you give them a 10 euro refundable deposit for the padlock.
We left at an ungodly hour in the morning for the transfer back to the airport so they provided us with a pack up/ picnic breakfast which was both nice & very welcome.
If I had any critism at all it would just be that the decor is a litle outdated but this is really just a very minor issue and did not detract from our stay in any way. I would be very happy to stay here again or recommend it to a friend.

Proper hotel, not a hostel or B&B. Stayed with girlfriend (we're both 29 and have decent standards).

TV and hair dryer in each room. No mini-bar / fridge or kettle. Clean, modern furniture, clean modern bathroom, tonnes of hot water, brilliant and powerful shower, lift to all floors, provide basic locker for snowboards and skis free of charge (deposit req), walk from ski lift isn't too bad (5 mins up hill with snowboards at end of day, stop off at Restaurant 360 for a beer en route if you're really suffering).

Safe in room didn't work (probably just our room), though could use reception safe, rooms cleaned every day, breakfast buffet in morning was basic but good (meat and cheese, breads and pastries, cereals, hot drinks and fruit juices. Try the local toasted bread with tomato, olive oil and salt, very tasty).

Wasn't too noisy at night though we did use ear plugs one night as had loud brits next door. It is a bit away from the centre of the action, but its only a 3 minute walk down the road to get there.

I stayed at the hotel Xalet Verdu in Arinsal with my husband Christmas 2007. On arrival at 5pm the hotel was perfectly pleasant but when we found our room the corridor reaked of cigarette smoke. We soon realised why. There was a party going on in the room next door which went on until well into the early hours, the only respite being when the occupants and their friends (from the floor below) went to dinner. We had eaten earlier as we had been up since 4am due to an early flight time from London plus a 4 hour coach transfer from Toulouse so really want to have an early night and catch up on some sleep. I even had to knock on their door at 1am and ask them to keep the noise down they were so rowdy. We complained to the receptionist the following morning who rolled his eyes and gave us a knowing look - apparantly the people who were in the room before us had also complained. He told us they were leaving the following day but I was desperate for sleep by this time and he did move us to a room on the 4th floor which turned out to be a nicer room and was much quieter.
The food was ok, the salad buffet was fresh and plentiful in fact, the salad buffet was the best part of the meal and included hot pasta not just salad dishes. The main courses were ok, nothing special but the deserts were a real let down. The ice-cream option was an individual tub of ice-cream which was still frozen solid. The safer choice was fruit, which literally was just a pear or apple on a plate, not even sliced up or nicely presented. This may sound cirtical but this hotel was sold to us as a four star so i expected better. The breakfast was pretty bland and i would have liked more Catalan dishes to try, it just seemed a bit samey.
The skiing wasn't great as there hadn't been much snow and the resort had to rely on snow canons. The slopes were very icy and dangerous in places. Also, alcohol is very cheap in Andorra and attracts a younger crowd who were quite careless on the slopes and although the resort is very pretty it can feel a bit like Magaluf in the snow.
Overall the hotel was pleasant enough but the staff could be a bit grumpy although the waitress who looked after our table at dinner was very nice.
It's unfortunate that Andorra does not have an airport, the nearest being Toulouse on the French side or Barcelona on the Spanish side.

  • Liked — the room was nicely furnhsied and very pleasant
  • Disliked — The 4 hour transfer from the airport

We stayed at the Xalet Verdu during half term in february. The hotel is clean and tidy and the room we had was a good size for the three of us
(one being a teenager). The staff were friendly and tried to assist wherever possible.

We stayed on a half-board basis and were surprised that there was no fruit as an option for breakfast. We also found the dinner to be very bland and over the week several of the meals were repeated. The hotel is reasonably close to the gondola but is is uphill on the way back and after skiiing all day it is hard work.

  • Disliked — the food

We stayed here in january and had a fantastic time. The hotel is lovely, has everything you need. Its nice and close to the gondola, althought the walk uphill on the way home feels like a bit of a trek!! Best to come off the slope and head to a bar to have a short rest before going back to your room. The food is very good - buffet breakfast and 3 course evening meal. There is a huge salad bar for starters (soup and other things always available). The only down side was the lack of vegetables with the main course. It seems to be the andorran way to just have lots of meat and mininmal veggies. A shop, not far down the road sells fruit and lots of snacks if you need to stock up.

Even if there is little snow in the village there seemed to be plenty up the mountain - they had to use the snow cannons a couple of nights while we were there just to top up and it made it almost perfect for great skiing.

My only warning would be the deposit you have to pay for the hire of your ski boots. we and many others forgot to claim it back - they don't give you a reciept either.

We stayed here 21st Jan - 28th Jan 2007 and had a great stay with a very comfortable room with great bath/shower. The highlight of the stay was the staff who were very friendly, efficient and helpful - the receptionist gave my parents in law a lift in his car when they couldn't get a taxi! The food will never win a Michelin star but it was perfectly adequate at the price. If we ever return to Arinsal we will be staying at the Xalet Verdu.
