“small family run hotel”
Reviewed December 12, 2010

excellent base hotel for a week's snowboarding, small and independant inevitably means you don't get a lot of frills but for the price we paid we were very pleased. clean and functional rooms with plenty of hot water, cosy decent priced bar area with TV and pool table. decent, hearty food with plenty of variety that managed to cater for 1 vegetarian, 1 septuagenarian, 1 teenager and 1 wannabe foodie without too much grief. safe kit storage area and helpful cheerful staff (particularly Raul) who regularly went above and beyond - this is why family run places beat huge impersonal places every time. located in the heart of town just off the bottom of the gondola (where they hand out the free beer and toastie vouchers... honest)

Just got back, Hotel is basic, we had three people in each room which was a bit of a squeeze, Location is perfect for everything, noisy outside on a night but what do you excpect when youre slap bang in the middle of the resort! We'l ask for the rooms that are on the river side of the hotel next time. Staff are lovely, food was ok. No car park but you park for free just down the road. For what we paid it was well worth it, it was great for our teenagers, and we would defo. stay again, But 5 star it aint.

if you are planning a ski-ing holiday to Andorra and would like an inexpensive half board hotel then look no further than The Hotel Arinsal. Couldn't fault it for the money. We would certainly return. Only downside to this resort is the 4 hour coach trip to and from Toulouse Airport.

Myself and my girlfriend have just returned from a week in Hotel Arinsal and it was pretty much what we expected from the reviews we read here already.

The hotel is really close to the Gondola and the main bars in the town. The staff are friendly and very helpful, they gave us a packed lunch for the trip home which I thought was a nice touch. The breakfast is pretty standard and as the reviewer before stated its all you can eat.

Even though we where half board we only ate in the hotel once, we had a look on 2 other nights and it just wasnt for us, other guests seemed more than happy. The night we did eat in the hotel the food was fine, there are so many good places to eat in Arinsal that we just fancied trying most of them out.

Our room was very small, we requested a double bed so the removed the twin beds but left the headboards where they where because there is a light switch in the middle, this caused some confusion when the lights would come on for no reason :D There wasnt much space in the room so your either sitting on the bed or the toilet when your putting your Ski gear on. The room was well cleaned everyday.

I've seen some people complain about the noise of people coming home from the pubs, I cant say we had that problem because of the noise of the stream, we where right at the end of the hotel on the 2nd floor, beside a small waterfall. Our room hadnt much of a view either, try get a room higher on side facing the mountain if possible. Which leads to my next comment, no lifts :D So you'll be dragging your luggage around. Also although the internet connection is advertised, you can only avail of it if you in range of the router in the lobby.

As far as value for money is concerned, I have absolutely no complaints and would recommend to someone traveling on a budget.

Hotel is an excellent find. Breakfasts are continental, as much as you can eat, dinner is different every night night, again as much as you can eat, service was great, rooms cleaned everyday, less than 400m from the gondola. Rooms are basic and smallish, but, you get what you pay for, plus we were there to board not sit in our room. It can get a little noisy early in the morning when the pub crawls finish but apart from that we will definately be going back to this hotel.

We booked this basic two hotel expecting the bare minimum and I can honestly say it was fantastic (we are not that easily pleased and I am a bit of a snob).

The service was outstanding and the facilties were brillant, the showers always hot and very powerful, the rooms were cleaned everyday and the staff always polite. The food was very good and there was always a wide variety of choices. A particular member of staff who was amazing was Raul, he hardly spoke a word of English but he was very good and couldn't do enough to look after everyone.

I was concerned about previous reviews of a sewer smell and I can confirm that there is a very mild sewer smell in the reception area but its in the whole village not just the hotel and it was not that noticable. So please dont let that put you off considering this hotel.

The Hotel Arinsal is a pleasant, well situated establishment. The room we stayed in, two single beds, large wardrobe, bathroom with a small balcany was warm and clean. The beds were made daily and the towels changed a few times in the week. We were on the second floor and had a decent view (room 208) but there are no lifts - so its worth taking this into account if you have a lot of gear or can't use the stairs. The staff were friendly and helpful and spoke English better than we could speak Catalonian.

One chap, Raul, was very helpfull and we spent an hour one evening playing dominos as he tried to teach us some numbers and greetings in his native tongue.

The bar longe area was pleasant and hosted a pool table, TV, fire and a few games.

The food was okay. Breakfast was limited to cold meats, cheese, bread, cereals, yoghurts and pasteries. There was juice, milk, tea and coffee. The coffee was foul. The evening meal was wholesome, hot and there was plenty of variety for the none fussy eater + you can eat as much as you like.

The Hotel is about 151 metres from the Gondola and bus stop to Arcalis. It has a place for locking up your skis/poles but it was basic and I can see why those who have their own gear may be disinclined to use this service.

We paid 18Euro for a safe in the room and we had to give a 10 euro deposit for the TV remore control (which we did not get back but was going to give this as a tip anyway so did not feel out of pocket) Drinks at the bar were 1.50 for fizzy drinks, 3.00 for a glass of wine and 2.50 for a pint of San Migel.

All in all the accommodation, half board and service was a good two star for which we paid the appropriate price. Except - and here's the paradox - the hotel also attracts plenty of 20 somethings who tend to apre ski a lot, and into the small hours of the morning. The hotel flooring is all tile or marble - therefore this "small rustic" hotel (as described in the brochure) is a complete nightmare between 12 midnight and three in the morning. Of course maybe we were just unlucky that week and it is not the hoteliers fault how others behave.

Next time we will cosider paying that bit more for a place that is not so much like a youth hostel.

Having said all that its not a bad place to stay if you are on a budget and are 20 something!

  • Liked — Warm, friendly = good evening meal
