“Nice view to compensate the rest”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2012

We have been going up to the mountains for years but last year we had to stay at a hotel due to lack of space at our family house. I must say that the hotel rooms were clean and ok for our taste for one night anyway. Rooms facing the valley have a nice view of forest & mountains that I must say compensates everything even the lack of service and timing..

We visited Petit Palais Aug 24., and we were 4 people that wanted something to eat in the restaurant. The menu was not exactly thrilling, but it seemed to be a bit more interesting than the closest restaurants.

We sat down at a table, and discovered real easy that the tablecloth wasn't exactly the cleanest we have seen, bit did not bother too much about that. The restaurant had put some other small tablecloths for each person that did hide most of the bad stains anyway.

As I quite often do, I ordered a glass of the house wine - white - since I wanted fish for the main meal. To be honest - so far that is the worst wine I have tasted in Cyprus the 3 months I've been here. It was simply sour - something I have never said about a wine in my life!

We ordered food, and I ordered a vegetable soup for a starter. The restaurant used 40 minutes to serve that soup - and they can't say it was because it was a lot of people there. The soup itself wasn't bad - it was extremely ordinary - and completely without salt and pepper.

The main dishes they used close to 50 minutes to serve. I had a trout, the three others had moussaka, chicken and kleftiko. The extraoridary thing was that the vegetables to the dishes were exactly the same for all four dishes - and nobody can say they were especially similar.

My trout was supposed to have some garlic in it, and maybe the chef had run past the fish with a garlic - but the dish itself had absolutely no taste or smell of any garlic what so ever. Neither of any spices at all. As all of the dishes. Most of the food did not look good either - the presentation was really bad.

The service was extremely slow, the food well below middle, and the prices should imply a little better of everything.

All in all - a place I can not recommend to anyone.

Pictures in the hotelflyer and on the walls in the reception hall show that this hotel has had better times. The location in the lovely but very touristic village of Platres is excellent. The room is quite small, the bathroom is very tiny and outdated. The door won't even open completely because of appliances fitted. Beds are horrible, some kind of camping strechters, including wheels. Our room was just above the kitchen that had a large outside BBQ just underneath our balcony, were meat was grilled (and smoking) all day.
Very friendly staff and a surprisingly good dinner for low prices (approx. 10 euros for a main course, 7 euros for a bottle of very acceptable village wine). Breakfast very basic but satisfactory. Parking is free, except in July and August.
Lots of things to see and do in Platres: trout farm and restaurant, Caledonia waterfalls, nature trails, winery and many restaurants.

We stayed there for a weekend.

The outside of the hotel looks pleasant and it is located near the center of Platres (beautiful village BTW). Once inside, despite helpful staff, the rooms were extremely small. Furthermore, of the three rooms we had, one was heated very well, another one was ok and the third room was quite cold. So I guess previous reviews that hint at a heating issue are probably right.

The worse part was the lack of warm water. It gets lukewarm at best. We didnt really mind because it was a one night stay but for longer winter stays be sure to check with the hotel.

However, although small, the rooms were kind of clean (not spotless but clean). Rooms facing the valley have a nice view of forest & mountains. Breakfast was ok with eggs, cheese, ham, cerals...

Without the heating issues, it would've been an ok hotel with an acceptable price and I would've recommended it for people seeking a basic room for a low price.

Central Heating broke down. were in bed with the kids from 8pm as they were freezing. We slept with our clothes on and did not have a shower as there was no hot water. Very basic inside, single glazed windows, cold walls, rubbish camp bed as extra bed for kids, no kettle, lift fits only one person with his bags, Basically not recommended. Oh by they way Breakfast is fantastic, toast and boiled eggs as the hot dishes, and salami, angouri, tomata plus others for cold plates. Okay from 68Euro he gave it to us for 50Euro. He said sorry for the break down, still would only recommend if you were stuck with nowhere to go.

The staff of the hotel was generally quite friendly, the location vas good and the room had a beautiful view overlooking the mountains. However, the overal experience was very disapointing. The central heating was out of order and the room was freezing whole evening and whole night. There was no hot water either due to the problem with the central heating so we couldn't even take a shower. We called the reception in the evening to ask for a heater and we were given a dirty (spiderweb and even a spider on it) small heater that produced more light than heat.
When we checked out we expected some discount due to the fact that our basic needs were not met. The man at the reception became defensive when we introduced our complains and asked why we hadn't left at night since we didn't like the room. He offered us 5 euros discount and said that he paid 1000 euros for fixing the problem. I find this attitude very far from professional customer service. It would really have helped if he had appologized for the inconvienience insted of geting into argument.
In general, I do not recomend this hotel.
