“What a strange place!”
Reviewed July 6, 2014

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at Capital Coast. We live in Nicosia Cyprus and went for the weekend to visit family.

We are well traveled and have stayed in a variety of hotels both in Cyprus and across the world usually in 4 or 5 star hotels. Generally you get what you pay for, nothing is perfect and even at the best hotels, occasionally things can go wrong.

However this place is strange!

It seems they do whatever they can to cut costs and boost profits, at the expense of the guest.

You enter a large, empty and dark reception area. Most of the lights are off. In the center there is an expanse of empty space, with a smell which i put down to fried food and what appeared to be mothballs.

There is no concierge, porter or indeed anyone to assist you with your luggage.

The corridors on the upper levels resemble an abandoned office building, no carpets just grey tiled floors with a wall of doors.

The room was actually very nice, great space, bright, 2 TV's a bathroom, separate toilet, kitchenette and a lounge. That is the positive comments over, the rest is very strange.

You are told your towels for the bathrooms are changed every 3 days, so you need to make sure you don't get them dirty! However they don't give you enough. We were 2 people, we had a bathroom/shower and a separate toilet. So we had our 2 bath towels plus the 2 hand towels in the bathroom, if we used the separate toilet, we had to wash our hands then go to the other bathroom to dry them.

You are allocated 1 beach towel for each person via a voucher, you are told that these are changed once every 2 days, not daily. i asked what I should do if i got it dirty and was advised to wash it myself using the washing machine in the kitchenette.

There are 2 lifts, one for the right hand wing and 1 for the left wing. However you can see that there are actually 2 lift shafts built at each end, ie it was built with the intention to instal 4 lifts, but only 2 were installed. At times you could wait 10 minutes to get into the lift.

We booked room only as we had no intention of eating at the hotel, what a good job. I had read other reviews about the food, which were worrying. We had lunch once at the pool bar, 2 sandwiches, they were tasteless and totally un satisfying. However I did out of curiosity go to see what breakfast was on offer, all i can say is thank god we didn't have it. Greasy smelly slop is the best way I can describe it.

The drink pricing at the pool bar was strange, a 25cl cup of orange juice (25cl is a disposable cup from a water dispensing machine) was priced at €4.00 yet a normal glass of wine was €3.95. A Coca Cola (25cl) from a dispenser, not a can or bottle was €1.95. Just daylight robbery. Generally in Cyprus, even at the best hotels a fresh orange juice 500ml will cost between €3.50 €5.00. When i questioned these prices the bar manager just looked the other way. No doubt I was not the first. The chairs at the pool bar are solid wooden chairs with wooden slats, but no cushions.

As we were staying just 36 hours we tolerated all the above and more, but never again.

The hotel i discovered was built by a property developer, who intended to sell the rooms as time share, this did not materialize, so they converted it to what they call a hotel. it is not a hotel of 4 star standard. It appears this is, their only hotel.

As a previous reviewer said, at check out no questions about our sty or customer questionnaire were offered, there is a surprise.

Room Tip: If you want to stay at a 4 star hotel, find one as this is not a 4 star hotel.

We had 10 days at Capital Coast as part of a package deal. I read the reviews before we went, and found they were a mixed bag so didn't know what to expect. We were assigned an 'Inland view' with no balcony, I asked if we could be upgraded before we went but were told that the hotel was full & unable to meet our request. Actually it was fine, we got a room overlooking the pool, so the view was nice.
There is a lot of building work going on around the area & the footpaths leave a lot to be desired,(leave your heels at home) but the hotel was lovely, the staff were very happy to be helpful & we looked forward to breakfast on the terrace. The breeze of the sea was amazing as we lay on the sunbeds. Only downside is there is only about 4 restaurants around there, Lot's of fun & friendly staff at D.T's, but bus stops at the top of the drive to go into Paphos/ Coral Bay.Yes we would go again.

This was our second visit to the Capital Coast and we will definitely return. This hotel has an attractive and welcoming reception area with efficient and helpful staff. The hotel is immaculately clean and the rooms are spacious, modern and well equipped. We stayed in an executive suite and had gorgeous views of the pool and sea. The price of the holiday was very reasonable and within the hotel the bar and shop are competitively priced.
We stayed half board and found the food to be good with a decent selection - our son is 4 and thankfully there was no sign of the obligatory 'kids selection' of nuggets/fish fingers etc. We also ate out at a few of the local restaurants which were very good and on these days we swapped our evening meal for lunch at the pool.
The staff at the hotel were really friendly, particularly the restaurant staff, they were always welcoming and hospitable and created a relaxed atmosphere for their customers.
The pool area is large and clean, there are always lots of beds and quite well spaced out too so you're never too close with your neighbours and even if you go to the pool mid afternoon there is plenty of space. Past the pool area is a grassy area which leads onto a rocky beach just right for little chaps to have a scramble on while they're waiting for pirates or mermaids to show up!! A nice chilled holiday.

Room Tip: We asked for a high room with a pool/sea view and this was exactly what we got. The balcony got the...

I spend one week in this hotel with my husband in June. I read lots of reviews of this hotel and upgraded twice our room upon these reviews and that was the right choice. We stayed in an executive suite with a large terrace and our own jacuzzi on the terrace. We found it quite luxurious to have some cold drinks sitting in the jacuzzi looking the sun set over the sea. Our suite was very well equipped and spacious. It was also very clean and we had two televisions with many foreign channels.
The hotel offers you free airport transfer from and to Pafos airport, which we found also very comfortable. There is a minimarket in this hotel and I found there many nice and affordable sunclothes. There is a Lidl market also very near, if you like to get your food and beverage very cheap.
I think this hotel is excellent for all those who want to relax an enjoy the nice climate. There is also a spa in this hotel. I had my fingernails done there and I think the price was reasonable and the whole treatment was also very relaxing.
I would certainly stay again in this hotel and choose the executive suite again. The seaview is certainly worth paying a little bit more.

We have just returned from a week at Capital Coast from 14-21 June. The hotel and accommodation was fine. Everywhere was clean and tidy and members of staff very friendly and helpful.
The only downsides we would comment on - food was not brilliant. There was always something to find to eat at breakfast but sadly the evening choice was not good. Although we were half board we chose to eat out in the evenings due to the poor quality of food.
The second issue was not the hotels fault but the roads and footpaths outside the hotel are being upgraded so if you like to walk - which we do, it was too tricky and dangerous as the paths were just stones, waiting for the top coat to go on which made walking with sandals or flip flops very uncomfortable and also with the big machinery in or on the road it was not too clever to walk anywhere but the bus service was very good.

Room Tip: We had an executive suite overlooking the sea on the third floor.

I'll echo a fellow TA reviewer's sentiments - if you're looking for a 'fly and flop' holiday, this hotel is fine. It has beautiful sea views, good cleanliness, large rooms, good location and ample (in April) sunbeds / loungers, all facing the sea or the pool. There are a couple of nice enough restaurants and bars across the road, and the bus leaves for the Harbour just outside, every fifteen minutes which is very handy.

There's something a little odd about this hotel though, and I think I know why, having read that they may have been intended as time-share rooms instead of a hotel, per se. Maintenance is poor. For example, I reached out to hold onto a bannister on the third floor stairs and it came apart, clattering three floors down to the ground. Luckily there was no one standing below....

Also, the staff are not the average hospitality providers. They perform their jobs....just. There's no effort whatsoever to ensure the customer / guest actually has a nice time. Take this for example: all week before we travelled we tried to upgrade (happy to pay the €30 p/n), but were told it was too far in advance. Then when we arrived, were told it was too late. Bizarre. There is also no room service, only every-second-day cleaning (they don't 'do' the kitchenettes at all) and not so much as a vending machine available for their very many customers arriving on late flights. (Stop at Boots in the airport and buy sambos!)

As it turns out, we're actually thrilled we couldn't upgrade as we needed the money for food instead. Part of our Secret Escapes package was half board but good God, whatever you do don't repeat our mistake. On holiday we're not fussy, we'll pretty much eat anything. Except this.

In the morning, messy queues, tinned fruit and an overwhelming stench of used grease and burnt toast mostly kept us away from breakfast. But the evenings were much, much worse. Great big steaming tureens of slop were heaved onto food-splattered tables, all allegedly different dishes such as stifado / bourguignon / pork stew, etc. It was utterly inedible, and by day three we had abandoned the whole idea of eating in the hotel's restaurant and instead cooked our own food with groceries from Lidl or caught the bus to the Harbour and dined in some lovely restaurants in there.

Yes, you've read that right - we actually preferred to pay for meals outside the hotel than eat the ones we had already paid for in the hotel. We're far from wealthy, but it was that bad.

The staff are for the most part fairly affable except for a rude and unhelpful man named - oh the irony! - Achilles. We sought to avoid him at all costs.

In all, if you need a quick, affordable break, and value a good sea view and access to shops, restaurants, etc., this is good hotel. Just don't eat their food.

I'll leave with you this thought. In every single hotel in every corner of the world, the concierge / receptionist always, always asks did you enjoy your stay when you're checking out. That didn't happen at the Capital Coast. My bet is they don't ask, because they know they're not going to like the answer.

Room Tip: Great space in the suites - make sure you're facing the pool or the sea though, the other option...

5th year here, 5th great holiday!

If you want 5 star friendly service, good & plentiful food, clean as your own home cleanliness Capital Coast is where you want to go. Splendid pool area (3 pools), well stocked pool bar (both for drinking & eating). 5 minute walk to loads of bars and restaurants, 10 minutes bus ride to Paphos harbour for more lovely restaurants, bars, watersports & world heritage sites (buses every 15 mins €1.50). 45 minutes walk along the coastal path to the harbour.

Recommend room 4111, 10mx20m roof terrace, whirlpool, privacy, enormous lounge, 50" plasma, 2 walkin shower rooms and great seaviews.

Thanks again Capital Coast, see you next year

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the pool bar side, you'll get magnificent sunsets
