Ascos Coral Beach Hotel
Ranked #54 of 85 Hotels in Paphos
Reviewed February 6, 2009

We went to the Ascos Beach Hotel over New Year, it was situated in an area with little or no amenities! very isolated, you will most definitely need to hire a car -The 'beach' in front of the hotel was full of rubbish, old chairs, litter, ect, even a half built raft which shows the desperation of some previous holiday maker.
The Hotel itself was shabby to say the least, the food mediocre and unappetising, but the worse thing by far was that in the only so called entertainment lounge (Plastic tables & chairs) although there were 'No Smoking' signs everywhere, there were ashtrays on every table which of course resulted in smoking everywhere! - our bedroom even smelt of stale smoke!
I can honestly say that this was the worse Hotel I have ever stayed in. On a positive note, Paphos itself which is about 20 mins away by car is a great area! we just chose the wrong location.

this hotel is not a 4star hotel any more more like a 2 star the food is the same 52 weeks of year. the hotel is no good for disabled people, and unless you are very young do not have the annexe its a steep hill and not looked after . they also do not take your cases up or from to your room .
the rooms some have had a lick of some thing but the new wall paper is coming off the walls the carpets are not good . so if you are not able body its very hard and if you arrive late in the evening there is no food maybe a sandwich behind the bar if you are lucky and you have to pay for your drinks after midnight which OK but when you arrive at 11.45pm you get one drink free and end up paying for battle water . the only helpful person is a lady who works on the front desk the staff moral is very low, the entertainment is bingo and karaoke nights, and drinking!!!!!!!!! which is not good. the hotel is run down and the indoor pol area as very mucky and broken glass is not cleaned up from the out side pool area, we took a disable person with us and the lifts to the ground floor broke and took 4 days to repair so she could not get to the pool area or the breakfast dinning room or lunch area , we where so disappointed in our visit out of 4 lifts only one was working , there was fights in the hotel due to drinking . the food is not kept warm enough and its the same chicken with or with out bones in a tomato sauce only the name changes on the night of the food is served its the same rice pork and lamb chips the veg is topped up its either not cooked or mixed in . i asked one of the staff if its the same and he said yes every week the same food every week. sweets not put in the fridge part , people calling the doctor out or ambulance and not even 5 times a lot more over the fortnight, i read the reviews and gave it the benefit of the doubt as i know of people who stopped there the other year and enjoyed themselves what on earth has happened and we paid for this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the whole this hotel provided good value for money, the food was good if not very 'English' it would have been nice to have more Cypriot food. The A/L drinks were acceptable but nothing special. The Hotel struggled with too many guests and not enough rooms, loads of people complaining about having booked specific requests and not receiving them including us but they did their best.
However, we had a good holiday but would NEVER NEVER return for the simple reason that smoking was allowed everywhere and I MEAN everywhere........ even though there we 'NO SMOKING' signs these were ignored and you could not escape. Maybe this would be OK in the summer if the air con was working but unfortunately being winter it was not when we visited. Everywhere smelled of stale ash trays including us!!!!
Sorry Ascos but you really need to address this if you are going to attract 'Non Smokers'..........................

we have stayed at his hotel 4 times before and found it an excellent experience. This year we decided to stay for a month over xmas and new year. We were shocked at the penny pinching, money saving actions that had been implemented. Examples, 1) cheap terrace furniture installed in he bar in place of the comfortable chairs that had been there last xmas period 2) the watering down of the orange juice in the breakfast bar so that it was undrinkable. 3) initialy 'short' measures for drinks at the bar, these were topped up to correct measures if requested 4) no waiting service for the bar, the reduced number of waiters being used to collect glasses only. it is presumed that this was to enforce queueing to minimize the number of drinks served to the all-in prepaid clients. 5) the lack of maintenance on the hotel, there was some being done but ripped wallpaper on corridor walls, torn fabric on reception armchairs and other non essential items not being fixed 6) reception staff not being properly trained and informed about things.
A lot of the staff that we have known from previous years did not have their usual sparkle. BUT to end on a good feature, the food both at breakfast and dinner was its usual high quality and beng bufet with multiple choices for both meals there was plenty of choice and sufficiency for all but the most picky people

We like everyone esle after reading all reviews had some reservations about this hotel, but we found we had a great time.
Yes the bathrooms could do with sorting but our room was lovely with great views of the pool and sea.
The food overall was very good and at every meal there was something for all tastes.
The staff were very nice and helpful throughout our stay.
The evening entertainment was ok, Carl who did the bingo and quizzes was good fun.
We had a couple of evenings out up the main strip in Coral Bay, one evening went to see an Elvis impersonator in one of the bars and he was quite good and funny and another evening went for a meal at the (Sidaria i think it was called) restaurant where the food was very good.
We were all inclusive which I personally think is the best option as you dont have to think about anything.
Had a trip into Paphos which was ok but we were quite happy to spend our time aroung the pool most days. Busses into Paphos were about 1.50 euros but getting one back was hit and miss and a taxi will set you back about 18 to 20 euros.
Just be aware that during the months of November through to end of March children are allowed but the rest of the time it is adults only.
Long trousers for the men is a must in the restaurant in the evening or you wont get in (the restaurant manager was checking everyone out before he would let you in)
All in all a good holiday and we meet some great people (hello David and Debbie and David and Jean)
I would recommend this hotel and would go back.

After reading reviews of this hotel on this website our party of 4 (2 couples) were apprehensive of the hotel. We couldn't have been more wrong. We had a fabulous holiday. The hotel is in an excellent location, in a quiet area, away from other hotels. We had our own balcony with spectacular views ot the sea. The grounds are beautiful, with palm trees and rolling grass down to the sea itself. We lay every mornng on sunbeds about 15 ft from the sea supping cocktails and relaxing in the quiet area of the hotel.
We were all inclusve which we thought might be tying but again we were wrong. We had a day out in Paphos and a few walks into Coral Bay itself and a bit further along the coast, but on the whole were quite happy to stay in the grounds of hotel itself. We found the food fine, with plenty of choice and themed evenings so there was different choices of main course each evening. I discovered my love of cocktails and found that nothing was too much bother for the waitors and restaurant. staff.
My only criticism of this whole holiday was the dated bathrooms! sounds really trivial. a little grouting and redecorating wouldnt come amiss. Having said that the rooms were clean and fresh towels etc were supplied throughout our stay. This was my first visit to Cyprus and I would have no doubt in recommending this hotel. I think in high season it might be very busy but in October it wasn't too full and the weather is still fabuous.

Hotel is not the best.... its ok, some good points but some poor. Never is 4*. Rooms were ok, but the carpet was really grubby plus the air conditioning made little to no impact. Wonderful pool area (although the pool was cold) but you couldnt fault the pool and surrounds. The food was fine for breakfast and lunch, nothing special but ok (we were all inclusive) but the evening meals were poor. Continuous buffet served from 6 - 9, but beware, that didnt mean come in at 9 that meant they cleared away at 9!! The buffett was not good though and we ate out 5 out of the 7 nights we were there. After saying that the price we paid for all inclusive was good so still made it a good deal to have breakfast and lunch and drinks as and when you wanted them. Dont go for the entertainment!!! 4 Senior citizens doing line dancing for 45mins was one night - bless them, but it was not entertainment. Still its nicely situated and very good value for money if you take into consideration it is more 2 or 3* and you can afford to eat out.
