Ascos Coral Beach Hotel
Ranked #57 of 85 Hotels in Paphos
Reviewed July 27, 2011

Stayed at the Ascos from 19/7/11 until 26/7/11
Whilst it is billed as a 4* due to the tired decor in parts is in reality in a 3* plus.

I saw lots of mixed reviews and to be honest, I cannot understand why people have complained about the following:
Food- Standard & quality are very good, always lots and always hot.
Rooms- Bed very comfortable, bathroom always clean, where people state bath is slippery even with a bathmat is unfounded.

From checking in we were greeted warmly by the staff on duty and even had our bags delivered by a very warm and friendly English man (Philip I think).

The cleaning staff whether it was the chamber maid to the groundsmen all greeted you with a smile and worked very hard to keep all areas clean.
My only point regarding the staff is the lack of Cypriot people working in the people facing roles, these apart from a few waiters were all Eastern european, and while the service was good alot of the true character of the place was lost.

Also worth an honerable mention Just up the road from the hotel is Feggatti taverna which is ran by Panos, food excellent and all home made to a very high standard.

Ok onto the bad points:

Entertainment (day & night)
To say it was very poor is being kind to Kelsie & Dimitry, Daytime consisted of French bowls, aqua areobics, water volley ball, killer pool and darts. That was it for the whole 7 days we were there, no variation and nothing for the kids to really join in with.
Then the sun went down, and this is you need to be afraid, be VERY afraid. Every night we had Kelsie doing a quiz, followed by her singing (sounding like a strangled cat). Then Dimitry and his bored monotoned voice did the bingo, again SAME EVERY NIGHT.
No mini disco or anything for the little ones (this is supposed to be a family hotel now) and the so called professional acts had to be sen to be beleived. A so called magic act that did only mind tricks with no actual magic involved, a singing group with a medley of hits through time who's male singer sang every song like Elvis, even if it was an Abba song (I kid you not), oh how i laughed at this while numbing the pain with the excellent dry white wine.

Please do not let the above detract you from going to the Ascos as im sure they can iron out the issues above and turn this into an all round excellent experience including better entertainment during the day and evening.

Room Tip: sea view rooms the best choice

Let me say first of all we had a great time at the Ascos. There was not a real sandy beach, but the pool was great with a lovely little bridge over the middle. The Med. itself was just down a hill from the pool, with a brilliant grassy area full of shade giving access to the sea. The food was very good with plenty choices to suit all, and sometimes the lunch menu was better than the dinner one. Bar staff were friendly and helpful, the two entertainment hosts Kelsey and Dimitri were entertaining from 8am to 12pm, Dimitri, especially, was funny, couthy and according to my Italian speaking partner, very simpatico. Our room was cleaned and changed every day and we had a great sea view. We wanted peace and needed to chill out and that's what we got. The sun shone every day (too hot for some), what else do you need. We would be happy to stay at the Ascos again.

Room Tip: One side of the hotel looks over the stage area and can be noisy if you like to retire early

The best holiday I have had. Could not be happier - the food was great, the hotel was great and the staff, including the management of the hotel made a conscious effort to ensure we were OK. Air conditioning was fantastic. Everything you need for an amazing Cyprus Holiday. Already looking at booking again.

Full marks to the reception staff who went out of their way to give us a room we were happy with. The first room we were given overlooked a building site, the kitchens and the air con building. Reception gave us 3 keys to view the beach bungalows which would open the doors once only to let us choose if we would like to change rooms. Its a pity they gave us a key for a room that was occupied until mid-day, as we opened the door and was greeted by a man completely starkers! After we got over the shock, and went back to reception, we were then given the key for another room as "they would not be happy until we were happy". Full marks to reception as we got a side sea view and enjoyed watching the sunset every night. Now onto the food. The first week was more to our liking than the second week. The choice is quite good although I think it is more akin to a 3star than 4 star. A microwave in the dining room would be a help as sometimes the food was quite cool.....especially the soup. The dining room is very tastefully decorated in white furniture and superb views out of the many picture windows all round the room. Some of the staff could have been more friendly and a little too keen to lift your plate before you are finished. This happened on more than one occasion and we had to get the table reset to continue with out meal! The entertainment is DIRE!!! Dimitri and Kelsie are not exactly full of entusiasm.............in fact I found them to be lacking in personality BIG TIME. They have their own little group of "players" and totally ignore everyone else. An example of that is ..........Dimitri asked us after we had been there for 10days, if we had just arrived!!! We had bought tickets every night for the holiday prize and the bingo, but it showed his lack of interest in his clientelle. Now the rooms. I agree that they were a little tired looking, but I have had worse........only not in a 4 star hotel. My only real complaint was that we booked this hotel as it was an adults only hotel and it turned out that we had children running riot every night during the so called entertainment. Overall, it was a reasonably enjoyable stay, in a good location, with most of the staff cheery and smiling. Would I go back to the Ascos??? Only if they made it adults only AS ADVERTISED.

Stayed here for one week, beautiful surroundings but the rooms need updated, the shower was over the bath, although this hotel was rated 4 star I would say 3 stars would be more like it, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was hit and miss as well. There was entertainment at night which was very good, I would go back, but would possibly eat out at night locally.

We needed a complete rest and peace and quiet hence booked an Adults Only Hotel. We were therefore shocked that children were staying there, mainly Russian but some English too towards the end of our stay. We have nothing against children - we have two grown up children ourselves BUT if Tour operators are advertising Adults Only this is what it should be,
We agree with reviews about the rooms needing a tidy up and hoope these comments are taken on board. The food in the main is lovely, lots of choice etc. however, the staff are far from friendly and towards the end of our holiday they were positively surly and rude on occasions. The Dress Code is a FARCE!! My husband wore long trousers every night and covered shoes and yet soem girls were allowed in in blooming hot pants that left very little to the imagination! One member of male staff in the dining room had jeans on one night and yet the same night one of the waiters criticized my husband for taking his foot out of his shoe in the dining room due to swollen feet!! At the time it was 9.20 pm and we were the only ones in our section of the room!!! I find this appalling behaviour and if the RULES are NOT CONSISTENT then scrap them altogether!!
The Entertainment is very poor at times - the Singers all seemed very good but Dimitri and Kelsey should be at Butlins not a 4 star hotel!!!
Reception Staff and Chanmbermaids all very friendly and helpful!!
Would possibly consider again but mainly for location not facilities.

Returned from this hotel at the weekend, i went with my fiance. i have to say that the hotel rooms were better than expected, a lot of people moaned. they are your typical cypriot apartment. the cleaners work hard and rooms were always left spotless...so im not sure why people say it was filthy.

I am quite a fussy eater and yet i found the food lovely, always a huge selection so on nights where you werent keen on the main dishes you could always have one of the many salads.

the restaurant staff are quite moody, but it doesnt really have much of an impact on your meal since you only need to order your drinks.

the evening entertainment was absolutely rubbish, not 4 star at all. I'm game for gettin involved but seriously it was rubbish...especially the girl entertainer, she made you feel like you were a rubbish crowd, she doesnt get you going at all and definately shouldnt be in that line of work. demitri was ok but i again i think he had lost all efforts. they didnt want to be at the hotel and you could tell. management should have sorted that.

there was kareoke a few nights whilst we were there and one girl in particular, who i pray will read this...needs to go for Xfactor. her name was emma and she was amazing. she made me cry a few times with her powerful voice. i think the hotel should have given her a job :)

coral bay wasnt really our scene, it was dead apart from one bar which was generally full of locals. we went into paphos which was amazing for a good boogie. in particular flairs, if you like a lively night out.

in summary: food really good, hotel nice and also clean, pool area big and clean, bar staff friendly. PAKO = legend, entertainment is rubbish so if you want lively night dont plan to stay in the hotel. weather AMAZING.
