Initial impression on arival was not good - Travel Republic booking not picked up by hotel, new front desk staff not yet up to speed so a long 45 minute wait to check in - background singer singing 'These Boots Were Made For Walking' and choice of tired food 15 minutes before resatuarant closed only added to our concerns that we'd made a mistake. Seven days later and we left relaxed and happy - testament to the staff and management who certainly go out of their way and work really hard to make sure that guests are made to feel at home - without ever being invasive. We had a superior room with balcony on third (top) floor. Comp bowl of fresh fruit and bottle of wine on arrival; well stocked tea and coffee making facilities plus expresso machine; rooms cleaned beautifully every day; comfortable bed; a couple of minor maintenance problems resolved instantly; lovely natural glycerine soap in bathrooms plus body lotion/bath essence etc; iron and ironing board; hair dryer; safe for valuables at no extra charge. We stayed half board - breakfast choice extremely compehensive - huge variety including fresh sliced fruit and even a large suspended honeycomb dripping honey! Yummy bread/fresh rolls - in fact anything anyone could possible want for breakfast. Pools indoor and outdoor beautifully clean. Dinner menu also very good - only downside is that you have to pay for all drinks unless all inclusive even bottles of water - 48c outside of hotel - 3 Euros in restaurant - given that water is not potable consider it should be free or at least not with such a huge mark up - water /coffee/tea is provided foc at breakfast so why not in evenings too? Wi-fi is free though it was down a lot of the time. Lots of repeat guests: - and walkway that passes in front of hotel by sea along to Pafos Harbour and beyond to Tombs of the Kings is very picturesque and perfect for those who love walking/cycling. Given quality and variety of food would consider all inclusive though you can swap same day dinner for lunch with 24 hours notice which would give more variety without being tied down to mealtimes if exploring the area.

Room Tip: Sea front rooms at eastern end of hotel overlooking bowling greens have full sun all day - so great in winter with sunset view but I would imagine very hot in summer. Western end rooms overlooking pools lose direct sun in afternoon so possibly preferable in summer.

Have just returned from The Athena Royal Beach Hotel after a very relaxing holiday. Hotel is situated in a very good position - about two miles from Pathos. The walk into Pathos is very invigorating along the sea front. We had a superior room which gave us more space. Restaurant is very nice with a good selection of food especially the Chinese section which is excellent.Staff are very friendly and accommodating. In the restaurant we were seated quickly and tables are not on top of each other. They have a seperate restaurant where they will serve you the table d'hote. This I would personally not recommend as all they do is serve you whats on the buffet and the restaurant is a bit dead. We went to the Athena Beach last year around the same time and I wouldn't say there is a lot of difference in the hotels. Although the Athena Royal does not allow children so it would be quieter in the summer. We would certainly come back again.

Room Tip: If you have a superior room ask for one without interconnecting doors. Our neighbours were quiet but it could be a problem if you had noisy neighbours.

My Husband and I took my mother to Cyprus for the Christmas Break. We chose this hotel due to the good reviews and that they offered dancing.

In the main, we were happy with the hotel, the rooms, location etc, The food was good when it was standard buffets / normal a la carte restaurant, but the thing which really let them down was the special seasonal meals & evenings.

Xmas eve and New Years Eve were a set menu & entertainment which was served downstairs in the large banqueting suite. The food was slow. My mother is diabetic and really to be still earing at midnight is unacceptable. The entertainment was ok, but the dancing girls were not very polished BUT it turned out that New Years Eve was exactly the same entertainment as Christmas! Approx 50% of the guests were the same.

On Xmas Day Santa came - or rather the GM dressed up. He then wanted all the guests to queue to collect a present from him and sit on his lap. No thanks! The gifts turned out to be marketing gifts with the hotel chain branded over them.

Christmas day was very disappointing. We had paid for traditional Christmas Lunch in the a la carte restaurant. We had one cracker for three of us!

Despite the staff being aware of my food allergy, I was not able to eat two of the courses on offer. The main course was billed as traditional turkey dinner or there was a fish dish.
The turkey came with rice & ratatouille and no potatoes or seasoning as advertised. The fish was served whole and not deboned and was swimming in oil. At this stage we had really had enough and walked out of the restaurant. Other guests were less than happy too and were demanding roast potatoes.

We complained to the management, but nothing was done, no apology was offered later that day.

We complained again on New Years Eve, again nothing was done.

The next day we received a letter under our door requesting we see the GM. Ummmm...surely he should be coming to see us and not summoning us like naughty school children! We sat in the bar and he walked by several times and made no effort to talk to us.

When we departed, we were given a letter saying he was sorry that we had not been able to see him!

The entertainments programme was poor. A retired gentleman had been roped in to run things. In the mornings there were a few activities such as 'killer pool', or darts then nothing in the afternoon. In the evening all the events clashed at the same time. The movie was the same time as bingo or the quiz which was the same time as dancing.
The dancing - although there were great dance hosts, there were not really any sequence dancers over Xmas & New Year bar ourselves. Oneor two of the bowlers did a few dances, but certainly not what we hoped and we looking forward to from a hotel which had advertised it great dancing holidays in a trade publication. Apparanelty November is the better time to visit for this.

Overall, yes its a nice hotel and yes we would return when 'normal' food is available, but not for Christmas or New Year - it was just too disappointing and in fact thw worst Xmas/New Year we have experienced.

hi we have just back from the royal beach found it a very impersonal hotel,we had a sea view room which was small with a even small balcony. Had to pay for the internet 12 euros for 4 hr
this in a 4/5 star hotel is very poor customer relations The One thing that keeps people going back is that it is child free. Its sister hotel the Athena beach is a far better hotel in every way.

Been five times to this hotel and coming back in August 2014 for 14 nights, really clean, good staff and nice and peaceful. Always go for mountain view room, as when you get back to your room after being out in the sun all day, your balcony is shaded from the sun and is nice and cool to sit out on and enjoy a can of keo, lovely

Room Tip: Mountain view,3rd floor, quiet and balcony in the shade so nice and cool
