This was our second visit but first time with 3 children in tow (8,5 & 3). We were given room 121 which was directly above reception and had a massive balcony which was basically the roof of the reception and seating area. Looking around the other balconies it seemed we got quite lucky as some of them (presumably studios or 1 beds, did not have such great views. I would try to get a pool view next time.
We only had a couple of lunches at the pool bar but the salads were fresh and reasonably priced. We didn't have the breakfast but it seemed very popular.
Rooms were cleaned on 12/14 days and air conditioning was in full working order. A few ants appeared but nothing more than you would expect to see anywhere. The location is ideal for Bar Street (2 mins) and the Harbour (10 mins). Despite the proximity of the bars, the noise was not a problem. The pool area is superb with areas for babies, kids and adults and plenty of sun beds available in sun and shaded areas.
The external walls could do with a bit of a touch up and a few basic repairs like light shades in corridors and broken external pipes would make the place a lot more pleasing on the eye.
Overall a good stay and would come again if visiting Paphos

Room Tip: Poolside view otherwise you may be overlooking the street on the ground floor

The Sofianna enjoys good reviews although it is sometimes difficult to see why. An old and run down building which is in urgent need of a complete refit so how can they fill it without difficulty if my high season visits this year and last are anything to go by. I suppose it is because it has a certain charm which despite its lack of modernity ensures it is a comfortable and relaxing place to stay. It may be lacking in chrome, glass and glitz but the pool and surrounding area is really good – even if the tiles are steadily falling off. My 9 year old son was not upset by the giant cockroach which came flying out of the A/c vent in our room one night. Despite the unwanted visitor I have no doubt the rooms are kept spotlessly clean. My feeling is that so long as the balance sheet looks OK the owners will take the money and not spend significantly on the property. A bit cynical when it could be so much better if they wanted it to be – which they clearly don't.

Just back from a week in Cyprus. Me, hubby and teenage daughter stayed in Sofianna room 225. Nice enough room 1 bedroom, sofa bed for daughter and plenty of storage space for all the outfits she took. Kitchen has everything you need including full size electric cooker somehow squeezed into the kitchen area. Air conditioning was free what a bonus!! Plus it goes both into the bedroom and sitting room where the daughter slept so we all benefitted from the nice cool air. Hair dryer provided so you don't need to pack one, the sockets in case you are unaware are three pin same as in the UK. The pool area was lovely with fountains and sprinklers and a so called jacuzzi which was not very jacuzzish really. With regards to cleanliness this was adequate the stairs I noticed were a bit grubby in places but the room was clean enough, our maid Ellie was lovely the room was cleaned 5 times during our 7 day stay. There is a safe in the room which cost 10 euros, well worth it when you travel with so many expensive gadgets these days. It was dark when we arrived and we saw we partly overlooked the pool it was not til the next day we looked the other way and saw we also overlooked a derelict hotel and a local family and their chickens - it did not bother us though quite funny watching the kids spraying the chickens with water. Late flight back but we were able to keep the room on until we left for 30 Euros. The Sofianna charge for wi-fi so didn't bother with that but the George and Dragon pub attached to the hotel provide it for free so guess where we went. Mario and Eva were lovely, prices reasonable, don't do food just toasties. We walked in our first night and Mario said to my hubby "you have been here before"- he was right it was 17 years ago when we were all a lot younger! The George and Dragon is a very friendly and welcoming place opens about 2.30 in the afternoon, just the right time for a couple of cold Keos (local lager) and the chance to check your emails, face book, or in my case get my fix on Candy Crush (I am such an addict). The hotel is just round the corner from bar street but no noise heard, yes there are a lot of closed bars and restaurants in the area but they like so many countries they are in recession. There are still plenty of good places to go and if you let the touts get you in you can get quite a lot of free drinks. We especially liked, Robin Hood, Boogies, Flinstones, Splash but there are loads to choose from. Don't change your money in the hotel they offer a poor rate but head towards then sea front there you will find Debenhams and opposite there down the road there is a dive place and opposite that a little shop offering a reasonable rate with no commission - it is just behind the big supermarket. We caught the local bus to Coral Bay €1.50 each way easy to do just head to bus station near harbour and pay on the bus takes about 25 minutes to get there, lovely place to sunbathe and swim, bar is a bit pricey but they do have a monopoly and you need a cold drink, the bus stop to come back is just opposite were you get off so easy to find. When using the taxis note they have a minimum charge of 8 euros we didn't know this and caught a taxi to a pub about 5 minutes drive away thinking it would be about 5 euros so we didn't do that again. Opposite the hotel is a little restaurant called Moonlight Tavern had a couple of meals there which were quite nice and reasonable the owner Chris is such a character, it looks a bit shabby but is very popular with people going back year after year. If you like chinese go to Chloe's on the sea front, they have illuminated pink trees outside you can't miss it. As I the said it has been 17 years since we last visited Paphos but if we can get a good deal we will return and yes I would stay in the Sofianna, nice and quiet, central, lovely pool area the hotel is bit tired around the edges but for the price we paid well worth it. if you go say hi to Mario in the George and Dragon from Trevor, Karen and Megan from Sunderland.

just came back from our holiday in paphos and we are so glad we were staying in sofianna hotel , not a 5 stars hotel but for the money we paid ( very good deal!) we could not get any better !
Pool look just great (we spend a lot of time there) and the pool bar very nice ,Maggy is a wondeful person and so is Eva in dragon bar .
Lots of walks we had by horbour , only down the road, and bar street which is just in the corner by the hotel .
The bus system in town is very good and with 3.50 a day we can get anywhere you like .
Coral bay and sea caves are out of this world!!!on the other side of town is rock of godness aprodite (her birthplace), one of the pretiest places we ever been!!!!!!we also had a trip in trodos and polis!!!!!
Big supermarket is only down the road before harbour ,, you can get everything in resonable prices , little kiosk with old cloths outside for sale very expensive , we been done twice in there they got no cash machine and i think that is there trick,,,,we learn by doing!!!
For meals we use "imperial" chinese , a great meal for 4 only 50 euro !!!near harbour and the "moonlight" opposite the hotel next to the rip off kiosk!!!!
Mister chris is running moonlight and he is an "exelent choice", that what he saying in every choice you make!!!!!
prices very reasonable and mousakka best in town!!!!
thank you for a great holiday and we looking to book again for next year!!!!

Room Tip: room 103 is very nice and got a/cs in every rooms

Trust me when I say avoid this hotel. You can get a much better hotel for similar money. When we arrived we were greeted by very unfriendly hotel staff who did not even bother to show us to our room. When we did find our room it was filthy. The floors and bathroom were very dirty. When we pulled back the bed clothes they were covered in hairs and stained. The towels were old and disheveled. The cleaner would only come every other day and would often not leave clean towels, we often had to ask for some. The room itself was very dated and just looked horrible. The rest of the hotel is also dated and had no amenities except the pool. If you have children don't come as there is nothing for them to do. The food at the bar was also dreadful, it was often over cooked and stale. For some reason the staff were just unfriendly and did not want to help. When I tried to speak to the manager about the unclean room and state of the towels etc he refused to speak with me saying it was not his problem!!!!!! What more can I say. A very bad experience. My advice if you are ending your hard earned money, spend it on a better hotel.

Read reviews before we went most were good but some said dirty. I think they are wrong there is a difference between dirty and some apartments needing a refurb, Due to an illness while on holiday and having to change room, we saw how well the rooms were cleaned and the cleaners did an excellent job. The bar prices seemed dear when there was a local pub the George which was connected to the apartments cheaper. Cannot comment on breakfast or bar food as we did not eat there but fair to say plenty did, The rooms are clean and basic and facilities quite adequate to cook. For me the staff were excellent and a great help when due to illness I had to stop a further week and a half. Would have hesitation in stopping again and a lot of people we spoke to it was there third and fourth year on the trot there which says a lot.

We were pleased with these apartments. We had 4 17 year old girls with us so as the hotel was only 2 minutes from bar street they were more than happy. The rooms are basic but clean, beds were a bit hard though. As said in other reviews they are a bit tired but you get what you pay for so it didn't bother us. The pool was lovely with the added bonus of cushions for the sunbeds. Paphos is a bit run down with lots of places closed down, the harbour is nice though and only 5 minutes walk from the apartments. There are plenty of places to eat and the prices are reasonable. Some good live music at The Rose Pub and some delicious cocktails at Flintstones. Its an ideal place to go with teenagers, not too busy but lively enough so they can have some freedom and plenty of fun.
