Just back from a week in Cyprus. Me, hubby and teenage daughter stayed in Sofianna room 225. Nice enough room 1 bedroom, sofa bed for daughter and plenty of storage space for all the outfits she took. Kitchen has everything you need including full size electric cooker somehow squeezed into the kitchen area. Air conditioning was free what a bonus!! Plus it goes both into the bedroom and sitting room where the daughter slept so we all benefitted from the nice cool air. Hair dryer provided so you don't need to pack one, the sockets in case you are unaware are three pin same as in the UK. The pool area was lovely with fountains and sprinklers and a so called jacuzzi which was not very jacuzzish really. With regards to cleanliness this was adequate the stairs I noticed were a bit grubby in places but the room was clean enough, our maid Ellie was lovely the room was cleaned 5 times during our 7 day stay. There is a safe in the room which cost 10 euros, well worth it when you travel with so many expensive gadgets these days. It was dark when we arrived and we saw we partly overlooked the pool it was not til the next day we looked the other way and saw we also overlooked a derelict hotel and a local family and their chickens - it did not bother us though quite funny watching the kids spraying the chickens with water. Late flight back but we were able to keep the room on until we left for 30 Euros. The Sofianna charge for wi-fi so didn't bother with that but the George and Dragon pub attached to the hotel provide it for free so guess where we went. Mario and Eva were lovely, prices reasonable, don't do food just toasties. We walked in our first night and Mario said to my hubby "you have been here before"- he was right it was 17 years ago when we were all a lot younger! The George and Dragon is a very friendly and welcoming place opens about 2.30 in the afternoon, just the right time for a couple of cold Keos (local lager) and the chance to check your emails, face book, or in my case get my fix on Candy Crush (I am such an addict). The hotel is just round the corner from bar street but no noise heard, yes there are a lot of closed bars and restaurants in the area but they like so many countries they are in recession. There are still plenty of good places to go and if you let the touts get you in you can get quite a lot of free drinks. We especially liked, Robin Hood, Boogies, Flinstones, Splash but there are loads to choose from. Don't change your money in the hotel they offer a poor rate but head towards then sea front there you will find Debenhams and opposite there down the road there is a dive place and opposite that a little shop offering a reasonable rate with no commission - it is just behind the big supermarket. We caught the local bus to Coral Bay €1.50 each way easy to do just head to bus station near harbour and pay on the bus takes about 25 minutes to get there, lovely place to sunbathe and swim, bar is a bit pricey but they do have a monopoly and you need a cold drink, the bus stop to come back is just opposite were you get off so easy to find. When using the taxis note they have a minimum charge of 8 euros we didn't know this and caught a taxi to a pub about 5 minutes drive away thinking it would be about 5 euros so we didn't do that again. Opposite the hotel is a little restaurant called Moonlight Tavern had a couple of meals there which were quite nice and reasonable the owner Chris is such a character, it looks a bit shabby but is very popular with people going back year after year. If you like chinese go to Chloe's on the sea front, they have illuminated pink trees outside you can't miss it. As I the said it has been 17 years since we last visited Paphos but if we can get a good deal we will return and yes I would stay in the Sofianna, nice and quiet, central, lovely pool area the hotel is bit tired around the edges but for the price we paid well worth it. if you go say hi to Mario in the George and Dragon from Trevor, Karen and Megan from Sunderland.
