“Great family holiday”
Reviewed April 29, 2014

We have just come back from holiday village and we are already looking to go back. All of the staff go out of the way to make sure we had a great holiday. We travelled with our 4 year old twin boys who practically lived in kids club. A massive thank you to Cameron and Marcus who made the boys holiday pitty they were mainly on the older kids clubs but Ellie and Sam certainly kept them entertained - thank you.

The Greek and the Mexican restaurants were a nice change from the main buffet.

We would have preferred to have stayed in the fishing village especially after Georgie showed us around the kids den rooms and nearer the kids club and the main pools.

I can't fault this holiday but mainly due to the hard work of all of the staff who make sure you have a great holiday experience.

Room Tip: If want to be near the kids entertainment and pool stay in fishing village,(newer part). If you pref...

We stayed here for a week with a six yr old. First class in terms of activities and things to do for the kids, right from 10am through to the evening entertainment. Also gives us adults some time when they're busy in the kids clubs.

We cannot speak highly enough of the first choice staff, they are absolutely fantastic and go out of their way to ensure everyone has a great time, but don't hassle you if you don't want to join in. Thank you all - especially Miles, Charlotte, hetty, Alice and Andrew on the entertainment team. Plus Sophie, Ellie, Alisha, Pete, Cameron, Sid.....sorry if we missed anyone, all 26 of you are amazing!

Staff in resort are also great, very courteous and helpful. We stayed in the Aegean village, so a few mins walk from the main action but nice if you don't want to be in the thick of it all the time as there's a few quieter pools over on that side. Rooms are basic, but have everything you need. Who spends family holidays in hotel rooms anyway?!

Location is good - bus/taxi ride away from Paphos, but we hired a 4x4 for the day to get out and see the island. The first choice trips were a little expensive for what they were so we decided to do it ourselves. I'd recommend this as costs less, and you can see what you want in your own time. Plus they drive on the left and all road signs are the same as at home!

Only reason I marked it down was the food. Buffet style and was edible but not an abundance of choice and sometimes didn't stick to the 'theme' of the evening. We didn't go hungry but wasn't the best buffet style food we've ever had. Also you need to book the Mexican restaurant as soon as you get there - we were told 2 days in advance but when we went to book we couldn't get in for 5 days, by which time we'd have left.

We love holiday villages and will return!

We have just returned from a week with you at the Aliathon and have to say we had an incredible time!! Your staff are amazing, the restaurant staff were so friendly and kind towards the children especially, the cleaning staff maintained a great job and the receptionists were helpful and friendly. The pools were superb, our boys (aged 10 years and 18 months) LOVED the splash pool area - one recommendation for other families would be to invest the five euros at the supermarket for a water squirter each as it provided our eldest with hours and hours of fun with new friends in the pool!! The entertainment was well run and there was always plenty to do (maybe have a wet weather back up plan though from the entertainment staff - just in case!!) I highly recommend the Undersea walkers excursion - a morning of tremendous fun and great memories made! The food was also incredible and suited everyone's tastes, with ample always available! The beach is literally a few minutes stroll away and was perfect for snorkelling with a variety of fish to be discovered. The only minor issues we had were the air con in the room was set on heat (to 27 degrees) for the first part of our stay and could not be over-ridden to cool, we complained and it was finally changed for our last couple of days (something to do with being on winter temp?!) and my partner got frustrated at times with poor wifi in our apartment - I however quite enjoyed not having the internet readily available at all times! Already since arriving home we have started to discuss when we can return to the Aliathon and hope to book for two weeks next time! :-) Thank you so much!!

8 of us have just returned from the Aliathon Holiday Village and we had a great time.

We arrived late on a Saturday evening and were greeted by 3 very helpful staff who told us to mark our cases with stickers in our welcome pack and they would deliver them to our rooms.

Our rooms were 1216 and 1217. Both were in the fishing village and both rooms were clean, very spacious with large balconies.

The following morning we headed straight to the pools to have a look around. The main pool is huge with plenty of loungers and the kids splash pool is brilliant with lots of slides.

The restaurant is more than big enough and I'm even told that in peak season they have another room they can open if it gets too busy. There was always enough choice and with different food themes every night the food never seemed to get boring, especially if you're willing to try new things. The restaurant staff were extremely helpful too.

Now onto the best part of the holiday in my opinion. The First Choice entertainment team are absolutely fantastic! I really mean that. They do their very best to make sure your kids have a fantastic time. From 10 o'clock in the morning until 12 o'clock midnight they do not stop.

A big thank you must go to Hetty, Miles, Cameron and Amy from the Kids Club who were all brilliant. It actually seemed like Hetty and Miles worked all day, every day. From 10am they have inflatables in the pool, quizzes at 12, family cricket, family golf, family volleyball. It doesn't matter what age you are, they try to make sure you are having a great time.

The entertainment room is right by the restaurant and although I expected it to be bigger it was fine because it was never fully packed. From 7.30pm until around 11.30pm there was always somethinf happening in this place. One thing that really did annoy me and I know it's been mentioned quite a bit is the speakers. They are awful. The work the entertainment team puts in deserves a better speaker system because 50% of the time you can't here what they are saying from the back of the room where the bar is.

The room only has 4 speakers so they have to turn the volume up loud but this causes an echo. It's quite stupid that with all the negative comments I have seen on here about the speakers, they still haven't sorted it.

We visited Paphos zoo which was decent but not great and also took a walk to the harbour which is about a 30 minute walk if you have kids.

You get given to vouchers to visit the Mexican & Greek restaurants. The Mexican was ok but the cake dessert was laughable because it was so small. The Greek meal wasn't great at all. The Stifado was very very oily and the Kleftico was rubbery. Probably worth throwing the vouchers away and eating in the main restaurant if I'm honest.

Like I said I really enjoyed my week here and if you have kids then I'm sure you will have a great time too. Most of the people staying here have kids so if you are looking for a quiet holiday then this is probably not for you.

If I was being very picky then here are a few things that I'd change/improve if it was my holiday village...

- The bedrooms have two single beds put together instead of a double bed and I'd get rid of those and invest in doubles.

- Definitely invest in a new speaker system for the entertainment room. This will put people off returning in my opinion.

- Heat the pool a little. It wouldn't need much, just to take the chill off it.

- Have more cocktails available on the all inclusive menu.

Room Tip: If you are travelling in 2 groups then I'd definitely recommend asking for rooms 1216 and 1217...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sparing the time to share your holiday experience on our Trip Advisor page and for choosing to stay at our Holiday Village Aliathon for your family vacation.

It is brilliant to read that you found your rooms clean and spacious and that all of the staff was absolutely fantastic!! Please be assured we will pass all of your kind comments onto them in order for praise to be passed on.
Regarding the entertainment venue sound system, as mentioned in our previous review reply please be assured that we have listened to our guest’s feedback with regards to this and we have tried many solutions to prevent the sound echoing. We have tried by adding new technologies and closing in the roof area of the venue with specialised sound material. Unfortunately, we did not manage to complete solve the issue with the sound echoing due to the size of the venue. We are aware that further improvements still need to be made despite the fact that there is an improvement from the original sound quality. Please be assured that your feedback will be listened to and the hotel management will try their upmost best to solve this problem.

It is all of our guest’s feedback that helps us to continue to move forward so we would like to thank you once again for providing us with both your positive and constructive feedback and be assured we will pass all of your points onto the hotel management for discussion and any improvement that may be needed.

We are pleased that overall your family had a great holiday at the Aliathon and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Please feel free to email any special requests you may have prior to your next arrival and be assured we will do our upmost best to fulfil them for you.

We chose this hotel having read a lot of the very positive reviews on here. We contacted Georgina Squires prior to going with special requests and details about family health issues, and she was amazing resolving every single one (thanks Georgie!). It is what it says, 'a holiday village', you don't feel like you are in a hotel and the staff are so friendly you immediately feel part of a community.

Our room was in the fishing village and exceeded all expectations. We had been concerned about not having enough space and noise in the evening, and neither were a problem.
The food in the restaurant was amazing, and thank you to Georgia, Tassos and Donga for looking after all of us so well. Big thumbs up for Paul the barman - we miss your cocktails!
The rep's were all great, and Rachel and Meg are doing a brilliant job overseeing the resort. We mirror the comments re the sound system and flagged it in when we were there...you have a brilliant entertainment team, they need a better system, keep working on it! Charlie, Andrew, Hetty, Alice etc all do a brilliant job, and the Reps show with Mile's MC Hammer was priceless.

The daytime activities are excellent. Our children did raft building, snorkelling, aeroball, archery, aeriel adventure, bun decorating and more! We also had a great response with first aid when our daughter fell on one of the slides, and she was then looked after by Sid for the rest of the holiday. Special thanks to the Football academy coaches Billy and Emma, who kept our little boy entertained for most of the holiday. One of the few things you had to pay more for, but it was worth it. The quiz's with Alice were also a highlight of peoples days ;)

We walked to the harbour a couple of times, and did an open top bus ride around Paphos. We also did a coach tour of the island and it really is beautiful. It was difficult getting the kids out of the hotel though because there was so much to do and they loved it.

I have seen some of the more negative recent reviews, and all we can say is that if you have a problem, go and speak to someone while you are there, as from our experience they are all really helpful. I have to say we never used the safe, and didn't hear of any other problems with money being taken. The reception staff and Georgie even helped us track down a friends blanket that had been left behind so we could take it home for their daughter. The only disappointment on our holiday related to some of the guests, not the hotel, who left all their glasses/plates etc by the pool for someone else to clear up, and the wasted food piled high on plates in the restaurant and just left. The staff never complained, and the resort was always kept immaculate. Our room was cleaned daily, and there was only one day towels weren't changed which was Sundays (it would prob be handy to tell people re that though as we didn't know).

A holiday to remember for us, and a resort we definitely hope to go to again in the future. We have also sent an email to the hotel manager to say thank you.

Well done to all the team there - you really are a credit to the hotel. Thank you, we have a lot of very happy memories and made some very special friends xxxx

Room Tip: We support prev comments that the Fishing village is the best part to stay in.
