“cracking deal!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2013

My wife and I stayed at the Aliathon for a late week of summer sun from 18th September.

I was a little wary, this being a family oriented Holiday Village but correctly assumed it would take on a more balanced, couples orientation outside of the school holidays. Although there were still quite a few families present, they were generally with children of pre-school age as one would expect - we prefer to avoid hordes of 5 - 15 year olds now that our children are 18 & 20 and no longer want to holiday with us :) We have no problem with children but prefer a quieter & more relaxing holiday and would certainly not have considered this clearly family focused property but for the fact that the deal we got was so incredibly good (£990 AI for two in the Fishing Village) and it was outside of the school holidays.

We had absolutely no problems getting a sunbed, no matter what time we came down to the pool and we commented on how refreshing this was to Kelly, one of the First Choice reps. She told us that although all the rooms were still pretty much taken, the actual numbers in the resort were much lower due to the high proportion of couples - 2 to a room rather than 3 or 4 - and that there was a fight for sunbeds during the school holidays.

There is very little I can be critical of - perhaps the room, which was described as deluxe but was really quite basic and worn, although we could not criticize the amount of space, nor the excellent location facing the adult pool (and with out sunbeds just a few feet from our door).

Compared to many other hotels I have stayed at there was not as much food choice but what there was was very well prepared, very varied and nicely presented and the restaurant itself, especially the Al-fresco dining was a very pleasant place to eat. You can take advantage of two a la carte restaurants once a week but these are slightly disappointing because the menu is restricted for the 'free' all inclusive guests - the Aegean is better than the Mexican as it is closer to a proper meal out and we had an excellent Kleftiko. Best meal of the holiday was at the Italian above the Aegean - you get a 20 euro voucher towards it and access to a full menu. which was excellent. It would be good value, even without the voucher and I had a superb fillet steak.

Drinks were good - the Keo beer on draught self service in the restaurant was very palatable and a big thank you to Marina who looked after us most nights in the adult bar :)

We did not take advantage of any of the entertainment other than a live duo knocking out some decent renditions of 'soft rock' songs (their description) in the adult bar on our last night which was very enjoyable. What I could see of the efforts of the First Choice team, it was not really our cup of tea and aimed very much at the family. No complaints though because we did not go for the entertainment.

Location wise we were very happy - it is a bit of a slog to the harbour, although this is a very pleasant 40 minute walk along the seafront if you cut down by the side of the Ledra Beach hotel opposite. Other than that there is a good choice of bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk if you fancy a change.

There is a good choice of pools and all looked inviting, although we stuck with the huge adult pool which we sometimes had to ourselves.

Staff work hard, are very pleasant and do their utmost to help you have a good holiday.

To conclude, the Aliathon has two personalities and both fit the bill depending on what you want. Clearly this is a great family place at all times but outside of the school holidays also becomes attractive for adult couples. If I could give it 4.5 stars I would.

Bit late in reviewing, but here it is!
Don't get me wrong I love children and have been to the Aliathon 3 times and enjoyed it, but this time took the biscuit, never again. This is not the place for a relaxing week in the sun anymore for a couple. They have completely changed the layout in the "food hall". It's much more tightly packed in and the acoustics are terrible. A lot (not all) of parents really don't appreciate how loud their children are!!
This time we had a lovely suite again with a separate lounge and bedroom in the Fishermans' Village overlooking the pool, but as for any peace by the "adult only pool", no chance. Some parents chose to ignore the sign and let their children play in it anyway. You may ask why I didn't politely ask them to leave? I didn't feel they were the type of people to reason with and there weren't any lifeguards around or people in authority to inform them anyway.
The only peace we did get is when it rained and we were room bound! And of course in the adult bar.
The good points are, it is a safe environment for all, clean and well landscaped (as long as you don't allow your child to urinate in the bush on the way back to your room, I believe he was called Harry, which I saw from my balcony). The food choices are aplenty (lukewarm) and I'm sure the entertainment is good. Not once did we go, as we hot footed it to the adult bar most nights.
One night we were so fed up we went out of the complex to eat at the Ocean Basket for dinner, finally some seafood!
In all seriousness, this is the place to go if you have children and you want to take the grandparents too, not for couples, unless you're broody!

Dear Jukebox40,

Thank you for your kind loyalty towards our Aliathon Holiday Village and for taking the time to write this review on our trip advisor page.

We thank you for your positive feedback concerning the safety of our grounds, this is an aspect that we feel very strongly about in order to make sure all of our guests feel safe during their holidays with us.

Regarding the children in the holiday village, we are indeed a family oriented resort; however, due to the structure and the layout of the holiday village, we strongly believe that there are quiet areas for couples and adults only such as the adults bar, the Aegean Village pools etc. The Fishing Village is known more for its lively atmosphere and the Aegean Village for the tranquil and relaxing environment.

Concerning the food served in the Pantheon restaurant, we are saddened to read that it did not meet your expectations this time around. Even though the majority of the comments about the quality and taste of the food is very positive, please be assured that we will pass on you comments to our executive chef for future ideas and possible improvements. However, we would also like to inform you that our chefs are always willing to fulfil any of our guests’ requests should they require something specific.

We hope that overall you enjoyed your return visit at the Aliathon Holiday Village and we hope that we will welcome you back once again to experience the great holidays you have had before with us. Please feel free to email us prior to your next visit with any specific requests you may have and be assured that we will do our best to meet all your requests.

Booked this the day before travel and I must admit that the reviews were a slight concern re noise and pool closures. However, we were very pleased with our stay at Aliathon. The setting is excellent, the Fishing Village reminding me a little of Portmeirion in North Wales with the apartments scattered around the main pool with well maintained gardens and walkways. Everywhere was spotless with the staff constantly cleaning and tidying up.
Our only disappointment was the interior of the apartment which was quite plain compared to the exterior.
We spent most of our time by the adult pool which wasn't too busy with plenty of sunbeds and parasols and a handy pool bar and snack bar. The childrens pool did have to close for the usual problem but swim nappies are available at all the bars and I'd rather the water is cleaned straight away than being ignored. I can't see how the hotel could do anymore to avoid this. It's really down to the guests themselves.
The restaurant had a good varied selection of meals on a self service basis. It was well cooked and presented, with a childrens section.
The beach is about 150 yards from the entrance to the complex across a main road which was never particularily busy. From there is a pleasant 30 minute walk to Paphos centre along a walkway through the seafront hotel gardens. Alternatively there is a bus stop outside the hotel with frequent buses. Cost Eu1.50 per trip.
One day we went to the market which is about 2 miles uphill from the harbour in the newtown area. There is a maze of small stalls in a large hall complex but most of what is sold was cheap tourist stuff, so don't expect much from a visit there.
I would recommend a visit to the harbour area which has plenty of great restaurants and a lively nightime atmosphere. Also, look behind Debenhams where you will find some interesting ruins with mosaics. It's called StPaul's Pillars and is free to enter.

Room Tip: Our apartment was in the Fishing Village set back from the adult pool and we had no problems at all...

Maybe the only downside of this place is the fact that it's not located right at the beach. Except from that it's just a perfect place, specially for families. The most friendliest staff I've ever experienced, clean and comfortable rooms and high quality food. Also very convenient to have some bars, restaurants and a supermarket right at the entrance. It's a great place to enjoy your holiday and definitely a place for me to come back.

We visited here on the 11th September for a week, this was our 2nd visit to the Aliathon as we had first visited 2 years previous.
A few things had changed since our last visit, the entertainment part had been given a refurb and the dining area (buffet) had been changed around.
We stayed in the fishing village, the first time we visited we stayed in the Aegean part and I must say that the fishing village is a lot better with our room overlooking the main pool area.
We had a 1 bedroom apartment, which was very spacious and clean. Both bedroom and sitting area had doors leading out onto a large balcony. The rooms are cleaned daily, to a good standard. There would always be that 'fresh' smell in the apartment upon our return at the end of each day.
The main buffet restaurant had been re organised and there wasn't as much selection as there was 2 years previous, but the food was of high quality and always something for everyone (and we are fussy eaters).
We booked into the Greek restaurant which comes as part of the all inclusive package (one visit) and wow what a feast! 4 courses, 3 of which you choose and a mixed sharing starter which consisted of lots of Greek delights, would highly recommend a visit and especially the lamb!
All of the staff at the Aliathon are warm, welcoming and friendly.
On the 2nd night we went to the adults bar based in the fishing village, we had visited here every night of our previous visit and always found it very relaxing and welcoming.
To our surprise "Marina" the lady that works in the bar was still working there and what's more is that she recognised us and greeted us with a hug! It is so nice to go somewhere where you are not just treated as a holidaymaker, Given the chance (the bar had got busier since our last visit) marina always came to talk to us as though we were a close friend and we were never without a drink. To be honest, no one was as she worked tirelessly on her own, always making sure everyone was taken care of.
We are already planning our return for next year.

We stayed at the aliathion. Apartments from august 14 to august 28 and can state that over all it was not to bad during the day. The pools and apartments were kept very clean, apart from the top pool near the fishing village being closed on three seperate occassions in the first week, because some one could not be bothered to put on water proof over nappies for their children, despite the fact they were provided free, the bar facilaties round the pools were excellent as were the. bar staff ALex Nicolas ect, the childrens entertainment during the day was brill and again so were all the staff that looked after them they all worked their socks of, now for the downside to this holiday, for a guy that just likes plain english food this was a nightmare, to many theme nights greek, italian, mexican, cypriot, ect not one night pure english, every thing swimming in sauces arrgh, if. it had not been for the chef called Gary, who sorted me out with a proper english dinner, ie chops mash and vegetables, I would never have eaten in the main restaurant at all, thanks a million Gary, this restaurant is not for any one who likes plain english food, as for the evening entertainment an absolute nightmare seriously needs looking at, the same reps that had worked so hard during the day were then expected to entertain you at night with a repetitive performance every night of the same show from day one, audience participation in game shows to win a t shirt, worse than water torture, I have never seen so many people get up and walk out to have a drink some where else with better entertainment, not one really proffesional act ie comedian, group, trio ect, really needs to be looked at, also the format bingo at 9 15pm when the kids are falling to sleep, needs to be at least an hr ealier, I feel so strongly about the food on offer in the night restaurant and the evening entertainment that was on offer for a plain english eating family, that I had to write this review as I have, we spent over a hundred and twenty euros a night as a family, to eat out on the nights we could not face going up to the night restaurant be warned. would we come back to the aliathon apartments, defiantly not all inclusive. but maybe self catering.

Room Tip: Daughter and her family stayed in apartment 704 we stayed in the apartment oppersite I think it was...
