Reviewed November 1, 2012

Just returned from a excellent 7 days holiday at the Agapinor on a light inclusive deal.If you want Full English Breakfast & lots of entertainment this hotel is not for you. However if you want a quiet holiday in a hotel which is clean basic with friendly attentive staff & decent edible food in a very pleasant resort & island at a reasonable price i would recommend it.The Light Inclusive was more than adequate, breakfast was a choice of cereals unlimited coffee and fruit juices & a hot buffet consisting of boiled or scrambled eggs baked beans & European bacon & Sausage. Lunch a 3 course sit down & Dinner a buffet with 2 main courses. Drinks were from 12.30 to 11.00pm on the package. Suggested Improvements : Bread could do with being a bit fresher & kettle in room would have been appreciated.

AS this is the third time back to this hotel it's like going home as the staff at the hotel are great ,
we know them and they know us. The location is great for us as it is near to the market there is a travel kiosk at the top of the hill from the hotel which we found a good place to book trips from , the out look from the hotel is as good as you will find round around Paphos as long as you ask for a sea vue. WE LOVE AGAPINOR And we will be back in april for a fourth visit, i don't think you will get better for the money or the service the food is

As my title says it ticks all the boxes as a hotel -but they are small ones. The hotel is situated 3 kms uphill inland in the centre of old Paphos. It is a budget hotel and is ideal if you are not bothered by the lack of vast public areas and recreation activities and non stop entertainment etc., that one associates with a normal package holiday hotel. The restaurant does not have acres of food choices displayed on a massive island. It is arranged along one wall and there are a few choices but they are well cooked and wholesome. You realise that more is not really better! Breakfast items appeared a little un-appetising, being pale pink frankfurters and rectangular slices of processed meat with boiled or scrambled eggs. But there were plenty of cereals and fruit etc. We did not go hungry. Our room was on the top floor looking to the sea. Excellent view over the nearby housing block and then over the roofs of the town and finally the sea in the distance. Wonderful views of the sunset. The room was clean and a little on the small side but big enough. The beds were comfortable and all linen was changed regularly. The staff were all helpful and mostly smiling except for one gentleman on reception who could come across a little abrasive but I think that perhaps it was his quirky sense of humour. All the senior members of staff were from England and every body had a good command of the language. The safe in the room was shown on the sheet in the room as 1.5 euros a day to hire the key ; but according to the gruff receptionist it was out of date and the cost is 2 euros a day-strange the signs had not been altered. The telly was ancient but had a lot of English speaking films and news programmes most of which were subtitled in Arabic. In the bathroom there was only two very small bars of soap,no shampoo or bath lotion. The shower was good ,no bidet, and the hot water came almost immediately There was a hairdryer in the bedroom.
Bar staff very welcoming and gave good service. The prices for the beer and the wine were very reasonable. The pool area is small but again clean and the staff welcoming.
On other reviews there is reference to the arabian contingent in the hotel which some clients seem to be concerned about. I must admit to being a little disconcerted by their presence as they seem to occupy a section of the building where they are totally separate from the normal guests. They are obviously long term residents. We saw them collect children from school and their balconies seem to be adorned with domestic items. Occasionally we met them in the lift where stony silences were endured-still,I suppose that's normal any where! Apart from that they did not cause us any problems and were an insignificant part of our holiday. We just felt that it was a strange arrangement in the building and it does appear that other customers did have a negative attitude towards them.
With regards to the position of the hotel. Very handy for Marks and Spencers and the rather unedifying shopping area. The roads are very busy and rooms are to be avoided on that side of the hotel. There is a bus stop outside the hotel but you have to walk a distance to get a bus to go down to the sea.The buses are excellent value. All trips are 1 euro no matter how far you go. Get a 3 euro ticket and you can use it all day as often as you like and as far as you like in the local region. One day we even went as far as Polis then changed buses to go to the Baths of Aphrodite. A round trip of over a 100 k.!
With regards to the island I can only speak about the Paphos region. It has wonderful archaeological remains in and nearby the town which are inexpensive to visit. The countryside in October is burned brown but the Troodos area, the unspoiled Akamas peninsula, the Avakas gorge and the eerie Akrotiri salt lake are all well worth visiting. Our walk around Mount Olympus was particularly memorable. At 6000 ft the views were marvellous and it was slightly cooler.
In October you can have beaches on the Akamas peninsular to yourselves. The swimming is superb in clear warm water. To enjoy all this you will need a car and again in October prices are very reasonable. Don't forget they drive on the left the same as us in England and the traffic lights are the same.
The weather in October is excellent. Some would say too hot. Over 30 dgs C every day.Walk 10 yds and you have sweat soaked clothes. I enjoyed it My wife didn't.
I felt the Cypriots were not very environmentally sensitive as we are. The journey from the Paphos airport to Paphos looked almost like going through a war zone-not very welcoming at all. Scruffy, litter strewn, incomplete and abandoned buildings, roads of dubious quality, very few continuous pathways. Perhaps it's the hot climate. However the main roads and motorways are all OK, but take care when off them. And the more expensive hotels(i.e.dearer than the Agapinor) are oasis of excess and indulgence.
If you want an inexpensive room, with reasonable food and good communications and you're on holiday to see the island and not the hotel the Agapinor is an ideal base to return to after a hard hot day of fascinating sightseeing.

Room Tip: Top floor, sea view are the only ones to consider

2/10/2012 11 nights. Was told the hotel was full but hardly saw any guests for the first few days. Lots of back ground noise of people chatting, kids crying but never saw these people in dining room or round the pool. Seems like they were kept away from the rest of us.Students? Staff? Asylum seekers? Very strange set up. One 2nd floor room was being used like an office, door always open and occupants smoking. The smell of smoke was evedence enough.
Bar staff David and Christian were excellent and reception staff too except for one male member of the team who was rather rude and abrupt!
Housekeeping staff were superb!!!
Maintenance was very good too!
Pool area very clean and quiet.
Entertainment was a joke. 2 nights a week.
Food!!!!! Probably the worst I've ever had in all the years I've been holidaying. Very poor choice and quality at all meal times.
Drinks were of limited selection too for 'Light Inclusive'. After breakfast finished at 8.45! yes 8.45! you couldn't get any sort of drink until the pool bar opened at 11.00. you had to pay for that as 'Light Inclusive' didn't start until 12.30.
Staff seemed to be very frustrated that they couldn't offer us a better service.
Budget hotel run on a shoe string.
BUT! Thanks to fellow guests and a few sing songs and jokes, we had a good time overall.
Position of hotel wasn't a major problem. 13EURO weekly bus pass is a bargain!!!!
No better than a 2* really.

Room Tip: 13EURO weekly bus pass is a bargain!!!! OR 3Euro for a day pass. Get a poolside room.

Following your review we would like to correctly advise on the following points raised:

Buffet Breakfast is available from 07:00 – 09:45 NOT 08:45

Drinks on Light Inclusive are available from 12:30 – 23:00 hours and this information is clearly displayed on all of our Tour Operators Websites along with a full description of the Package, which is offered at a highly discounted price compared to All Inclusive.

The drinks included on the Package are; Hot Beverages, Soft Drinks, ½ Pints of Local Amstel Beer, Local Spirits & Local ½ Litre Carafe of wine – White or Red.

Regarding the food, our chef and hotel is complimented on a regular basis by both new and repeat guests for the quality of food that we serve and we would like to mention that a selection is offered at all meal times.

Our Hotel does not advertise Entertainment nor is it obligatory, however for our guests enjoyment this is provided during busy periods up to 2 times per week and the artists performing have been complimented on every occasion.

Finally we were pleased to hear that you found our Hotel clean and staff friendly and polite.

stayed at the hotel in october 2012 was confirmed all inclusive when booked but on arrival was told we do not do ALL INCLISIVE but LIGHT INCLUSIVE when i complained they said i should take it up with travel agent, could not get a drink either tea/coffee or any other until 12.30am unless we paid for it all/light inc/ did not start tll then.Food was fair but very limited choice, lunch consited of a set menu omlette/toastie/fish/chicken/pork and chips.Evening dinner all you had was two choices or salad. No evening entertainment only fri&sunday. arround the pool which there was limited space (not like photo) only 3 tables and 5 chairs plenty of sunbeds when some elderly guests turned up there was no where for them to sit they either sat in the steps or were told to sit on sunbeds rather than bring down some more chairs for them to sit on.What we were not told was the hotel was a third full of asylum seekers (referd to as long stay guests)by staff who seemed to have taken over the evening dinning room as they were not allowed round pool area and we very noisey.there we satalite dishes on some of there balconies and we seen smoking in the corridores. WOULD NOT RECOMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE WANTING A NICE HOLIDAY.

Following your review we would like to comment as follows:

Our hotel DOES NOT DO and NEVER HAS DONE ALL INCLUSIVE.

The agreement that we have with all of our Tour Operators is for LIGHT INCLUSIVE and a FULL DESCRIPTION OF THE PACKAGE (including available drinks and times) IS CLEARLY DISPLAYED ON THEIR WEBSITES FOR EVERYONE TO SEE.

THIS IS ALSO CLEARLY INICATED BY THE VERY LOW COST OF THE PACKAGE, COMPARED TO THE COST FOR AN ALL INCLUSIVE HOLIDAY.

Therefore we suggest that you take the issue up with the Travel Agent that miss-sold you the holiday, which would be more effective and beneficial to you than publicly displaying INCORRECT FACTS in a review on this site.

We would also like to mention that for our guests convenience, Buffet Breakfast is available from 07:00 – 09:45 and during this time you are able to help yourself to as many drinks as you wish, from the self service beverage machine & juice machine. There is also fresh filter coffee available.

At 11:00 hours in summer the pool bar opens and you are able to purchase drinks, prior to the commencement of your Light Inclusive Package.

Drinks are available on the Light Inclusive Package from 12:30 - 23:00 hours and include Hot Beverages, Soft Drinks, ½ Pints of Local Amstel Beer, Local Spirits & Local ½ Litre Carafe of wine – White or Red

Regarding the food, a selection is offered at all meal times and the Set Lunch Menu is a 3 course menu.

At the dinner Buffet there is also a varied selection to suit all tastes with the Chef’s soup of the day, a selection of salads & hors' dourves, hot main dishes with seasonal vegetables and the potatoes of the day and a selection of desserts. At the same time there is a Vegetarian Menu available or you can have an omellet of your choice.

Entertainment is not advertised by our Hotel nor is it obligatory, however for our guests enjoyment this has been provided during busy periods up to 2 times per week and the artists performing have been complimented on every occasion.

As a Hotel we are open to guests from all Countries and Cultures and we do not know or ask the status of any of the guests that stay with us, nor will we put limitations on the countries that we will do business with.

Just returned from a week in the Agapinor Hotel and had a fantastic time. Granted the rooms are basic but to be honest we paid a basic price!! The rooms, public areas & the area around the pool were totally spotless. We had a slight air conditioning issue on our 2nd night, mentioned it to the girl on reception and when we came back it was fixed. We found the beds very comfortable and were lucky enough to get a room facing the sea and overlooking the pool - which was fab. The only thing we would have liked was a fridge to keep water cool.
There were always loungers around the pool and as I mentioned before totally spotless!
Everyone one we met in the hotel was friendly, staff & guests and a very smiley barman who made very potent cocktails!!
Breakfast could have been better, for example the milk could have been kept in a chiller, and i couldn't eat my cereal or have tea because of this. Despite the heat all the food was just out at room temperature (which was very warm!), perhaps have a greater selection of Fresh Fruit (I suspect that the fruit was tinned) but the boiled eggs and scrambled eggs were usually very nice.
We were only on a bed & breakfast rate and as there are many lovely restaurants down near the harbour and up in the old town we did not find this a problem, so we can't comment on the other meals. You can take a bus down to the harbour from just down from the hotel - we bought a 7 day pass for 13 Euro and travelled about Paphos. We found Paphos very safe and not a rowdy drinking place.
All in all we thought that the Agapinor Hotel was great value for money if you are holidaying on a budget (like we were!), the staff were friendly and it was absolutely spotless - what more do you want? Thanks to all who made it a great holiday!
