“Expensive, but Superb”
Reviewed October 7, 2008

We chose the Thalassa as a real getaway, not cheap, but wanted to be luxurious, quiet and romantic, away from the main resort - and boy did we get what we wanted!
Yes, the Thalassa is expensive, but boy do you get complete relaxation and comfort and discretion - oh yes!
Lovely small hotel, lovely rooms with lots of room to hang your stuff, chill out and beautiful views in the sunrise rooms across Coral Bay - fantastic! Believe it or not we were kindly upgraded to a larger suite, but opted to stay in our full front seaview as it was so gorgeous a view all day!
Small and intimate spa, with a good gym, not many machines, but not busy, so it didn't matter! Massages are expensive and not perhaps the best we've had, but still nice!
We didn't eat at the Hotel, as at night it is like a ghost town- probably due to the cost of everything, however, we liked that as you can go into Coral Bay (about a 15 minute walk) and there are plenty of casual restaurants (nothing classy though - you have to go into Paphos for that!) and get back to the Hotel and sleep soundly as there's nothing going on!
If you want a seriously relaxing break, away from it all, this is the place - the only time it got really busy, was the weekend, when locals come to stay for a romantic getaway - says it all!
You get fruit cocktails at around 11:30 a.m, cold towels brought round at about 1p.m. - LOVELY! we'll be back!

We have just returned from 2 weeks (11-24th Aug 08) at the Thalassa hotel. It's a lovely place, very relaxed and tranquil.

The staff and service was super..

Regarding the food.. some people have suggested that the food in the evenings at the hotel wasn't great.. and we nearly cancelled our half board basis.. however we decided to stick with it and YES the menu was the same each night.. but the quality was excellent, well presented and very nice indeed.

Breakfast was a continental spread with cheeses fruit pastries along with the usual pancakes, bacon, eggs, cereals etc.

Lunch from the beach bar was great..the portions where huge so we just ordered one between 2..otherwise it was quite difficult to fit in your evening meal!

Coral Bay has a number of bars and restaurants. Approx 20 min walk into town from the hotel or 7 euro's in a taxi or the bus which stops just outside of the hotel.

If you like chinese, then "Chloe's" which is situated close to the "tomb of the kings" was lovely..(bus or taxi).

The pool attendants Anton and Rowland were wonderful, laying out towels on your lounger and the cold towels provided (be it only once a day) were a welcome break from the heat.

The Spa was was quite expensive but fabulous.

Overall I would say this hotel was the most relaxed hotel we've stayed in. Totally chilled out and if you want a little luxury then this is the place for you

My boyfriend and I have just returned from Thalassa and although we had a great time there we thought it was more a four star hotel with 5 star service. The staff were excellent and couldnt do enough for us and everyone was very friendly and helpful.
We would recommed bed and breakfast only as the food at the hotel is not great and we found a great restaurant in coral bay called Andrias which is only a short walk away. The beach bar at the hotel did great lunches-huge portions for reasonable prices.
We stayed in a superior suite and found it to be plenty big enough and very clean. Housekeeping did a great job of tidying up for us and turned down our bed each evening oh and the beds were massive! And you get a bathroom each!
We found that there wasnt much of an atmostphere at the hotel and we were one of the youngest there-We are 26 and 30 years old. I wouldnt recommend this holiday for young people looking for a fun exciting time-its more suitable if you just want to get away from it all and really relax. Drinks were really expensive at the hotel and our bill at the end of the 10 days was huge!!
Overall we had a good experience

It was the first time visit in Cyprus for both my husband and me.
I have specially booked this trip to celebrate my husband's 30th birthday. Some friends who are from Cyprus have recommended us to stay at Thalassa Boutique Hotel and Spa which is located in the area of Coral Bay, it was an excellent recommendation from them. We had such a great time staying there. This hotel is most suitable for couples who need to have a relaxing break.

We chose this hotel also because of the spa treatments that they can provided to the guests, we had some spa treatments at the spa that is located in the 2nd floor of the hotel, this spa is in excellent standard and all sort of treatments that you can pre-book. We really love our room, the room was bright, clean and spacious with a balcony overlooking the seaside, we could hear the waves during the night which was quite romantic.

Since it was my husband's birthday, the hotel has given us a complimentary sparkling wine delivered to our room. Everything was almost perfect. The buffet breakfast was delicious with plenty of fresh fruits, cheese, cold and hot food.

The hotel is located just 25 minutes away by bus to the harbour where you can find a lot of restaurants, the bus stop takes you all the way. The Paphos airport is also less than 30 minutes away and it costs about 50 euros which is reasonable.

The staff were very helpful and very attentive, they gave us good advice to go around, suggested where to eat and what to do. We would definitely want to go back in the nearest future.

A very average property for a high price. Dont really have a bad thing to say, however this is not the place for a twenty-something couple... it's too quiet, no vibe, and miles away from paphos town... Rooms are very average with ikea-standard furniture. Positives are the food, Korres toiletries the bathroom and the spectacular views! A/C in our room did not work, asked for it to be fixed TWICE and it wasnt... in the end we just gave up! All staff are very polite, however, the hotel just isnt up to par with other hotels in the Paphos area. Look around before booking your hotel!

This review is a little retrospective, as we have only just joined trip advisor, but Thalassa was excellent, so well worth mentioning, even if a while ago now!
We booked through Thomas Cook for a two week stay, which we requested as a honeymoon. And other than the usual sardine tin flight experience, we found everything to be excellent.
On landing in Paphos, and collecting our bags, we were given a private taxi transfer, which made for a speedy trip!
As we arrived at Thalassa, which was late at night (around 11 p.m.) we were greeted very warmly by the reception staff, and already gasping at the beautiful lobby/reception area.
After checking in, we were shown to our room by a very friendly ex-pat night porter, who gave us the lowdown on all our room facilities. As we were honeymooners, we were upgraded to the next room catagory for free (which would have doubled the cost of our holiday!) We were blown away with our room, completely the 5 star experience we had hoped for! The bed was enormous, we had a huge double balcony, with sunbeds, rocking chair and table with chairs. The view was beautiful, the hotel is built on a peninsular, so there are seaviews all around. Also gorgeous sunset views overlooking the sea!
As part of our upgraded room, we also had a sitting room, complete with TV and DVD player (we also had the same in the bedroom!) and we had a bathroom each! These were very well stocked with pampering treats (being a spa hotel the selection was excellent!), and exceptionally clean. Despite the late arrival, two welcome platters awaited us, which was a nice touch!
We were staying on a bed a breakfast basis, and the buffet style breakfasts were amazing! Towers of fresh fruits, yoghurts, cereals, cooked breakfasts, continental style meats and pastries and many breads, as well as a great array of drinks (including sparkling wine!)
As part of our free honeymoon upgrade, we were given a three course meal in the main restaurant (about £100 value!) This restaurant had excellent quality dishes, with 5 star service. Lunches were also served here, which we sampled, and very much enjoyed.
There was also a beach bar serving daytime snacks, we went here quite a few times - the prices really were great too considering the size of the handmade burgers etc!
The hotel also has a fish restaurant, which we visited several times, the lobster tortellini was superb.
Around the pool, which also was gorgeous, the service was equally good. Very comfortable sunbeds, with two towels on. During the day waiters would be around to take drink orders, and we were brought fruit kebabs, and iced towels.
The views from the pool were great, looking out over the sea and beach below. There were little steps to go down if you wanted a dip in the sea. The only minor point, which was no fault of the hotel, was the tourist boat which pulled into the bay most mornings, where a duo of singers would entertain their passengers, while they swam/sunbathed on deck. I can't say it bothered us too much, but the songs they sang became a bit repetative after two weeks!
The hotel had a managers welcome, which we were invited to both weeks, where everyone could mingle and sip the free champagne!
Also there was a weekly wine tasting session, where you were given a little card to fill in as you sampled several different wines from a local vineyard.
The hotel is well located if you want to step out into the Coral Bay strip. There are the usual bars, shops and restaurants, but as we were being so well looked after at the hotel, it all seemed a bit loud!
The hotel spa was another of our favourite parts of the honeymoon. We were given a complimentary massage each, which was heaven. After that we were hooked, and went back for another massage and facial each before going home. The staff there were lovely and very professional. The spa was so relaxing, the rooms were cleverly built with water cascading and gentle music carried around the area.
Near to the end of our stay, we asked about bicycle hire, we were led to the hotel basement and given two mountain bikes to take out for as long as we wanted!
There is a bus stop at the end of the road outside the hotel, which is handy if you want to go and explore. We had a scorching trip to Paphos town and had a good look around the ruins.
I don't think our honeymoon could have been any better. The staff and management of the staff was exceptional. For beautiful surroundings and total 5 star luxury, we would highly recommend Thalassa.

  • Liked — The excellent service and surroundings
  • Disliked — The boat trippers (but not that bad really!)

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Thalassa. We have stayed in many other 5 star hotels and I would say that although the service is excellent and all the staff were always on hand, the hotel itself Iis more 4 star than 5.

We booked half board. Breakfast was great, lots of variety - fresh fruit, cold meats, cooked english breakfast, pastries...... however the dinner was disappointing we must say. The menu did not change all week and the menu at the Ambrosia restuarant is very limited and also quite expensive. We ended up eating the same thing most of the week as some combinations of food were just too fancy and did not sound appetizing at all. I wish we had just booked bed and breakfast now as the hotel is only about a 15-20 min walk from the main strip of restaurants and bars which we tried out the second week of our holiday and must say we had some lovely meals.

The service we could not fault. Staff were very friendly and happy to help. Rooms were ok - nothing special. We booked a one bedroom superior suite and i dont think there was anything superior about it. The rooms are interconnected with a sitting area in one and the bedroom in the other. This in itself makes the rooms feel small. Decor in the hotel was modern and always very clean.

We had a few treatments in the Spa which were nice but I think again they were over priced for what they were.

The little extra touches like bringing fresh fruit to guests around the pool and cold towels as well were nice.

Overall a really enjoyable experience.
