I am very puzzled by some of the positive reviews that have been given to this hotel as it is most certainly not a 5 star and would probably struggle to call itself a good 4 star. No money has been spent on it for years and it shows. The rooms are tired and in need of a revamp. In a suite you do get 2 bathrooms, 2 wardrobes etc. but it is obvious that a door has been taken away to produce one room instead of two and has been altered very badly.

The suite we had was not particularly clean on arrival and did not improve in the time we spent there. We overlooked the tennis court which did provide a nice view but at times the smell from the drains often prevented us from using the balcony or the sunbeds which were on it.

The view from the pool area is stunning however passing boats with holidaymakers singing and drinking plus the noise from the nearby beach, which anyone can use, spoilt any tranquillity that could gained from this. At the weekend Cypriots come and stay for one or two days and the hotel becomes overfull and noisy making it difficult to provide sunbeds for all the guests.

The breakfast is poor with good standards of hygiene not adhered to Items such as fried eggs can be ordered but it is a long drawn out process and upon arrival is either cold or undercooked, we gave up on this one. Drinks and meals in the hotel are very expensive so it is advisable to eat and drink somewhere else if possible.

The Thalassa has a no children under 12 policy, yet there were two very noisy young children during our entire stay. As the hotel has a very small pool area this noise becomes very annoying.

The management and staff definitely favour the Russian visitors over those from other Countries. Sunbeds are held for them all day whether they use them or not and the staff make sure they meet their every need whether it is reasonable or not. Some of the staff are helpful and friendly and some are most certainly not.

The Management advertise the Thalassa as a home from home apparently, I guess your view of this hotel will depend on what sort of home you have. My advice would be do not go, there are much better hotels in Cyprus and after all the view is free.

Room Tip: choose a room overlooking the pool area to avoid the smell of drains.

Dear Guest,

We are here to listen to your reviews which are very important to us. Each guest and visitor is entitled to their own personal opinions and should write only about their own personal experiences, suggestions and holiday moments. I do not think it is fair or correct to comment on other guests stays and views as these should be respected.

Thalassa Boutique Hotel & Spa is very well kept, with constant maintenance and refurbishment, all furniture in the lobby, bar and main terraces was only just replaced a couple of months ago, however you are entitled to your opinion. As for the layout and design each hotel has it own individual character and this can not meet everyone's preference.

Indeed July is one of the hotel's peek season and popular time for local guests as well, so the hotel is very likely to be busy, as is the public beach next door to the hotel. All guest are always provided with sun beds and if you cannot find a vacant one the hotel staff will kindly find you one on request.

At Thalassa Boutique Hotel & Spa our motto is to serve each and every guest and do our utmost to meet their needs and preferences when they request these, there is no exception to any nationality as all guest are important to us and I am sure that other guests personal requests do not have an adverse affect on others holidays. Sunbeds can be kept for any guest should they request it.

For guest who prefer a quieter stay we recommend they always opt for off season, winter vacations.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

We have just returned from a 1 week stay at Thalassa.
We stayed in a suite which was excellent, it comes with 2 bathrooms, 2 wardrobes, 2 fridges, 2 flat screens, a dvd player and a large balcony with a sea view.
The pool area never felt really busy, there were always plenty of empty beds and the pool is heated which is a nice touch. There are also some lovely views around the pool with the beach and bay down below. WIFI is free and is excellent in the room, but can be a bit hit and miss around the pool area.
There are plenty of options for breakfast, and you can order eggs as well – the omelettes were excellent. For lunch we ate at the beach bar and outdoor area by the pool, both had good food at reasonable prices, different menus at both. For Dinner we went out every night, we ate in the Coral Bay Hotel restaurant by the marina which was very nice, although the service was a bit lacking.
The Indian restaurant 5 mins away was also very nice, the Greek Taverna which is next to it was OK, a little pricy for the food quality, and we also ate in a few places in the small town that is 15mins walk away.

I haven’t given the hotel a full 5 marks due to the following; I had one expectation before arriving and that was that there would be no children, unfortunately this was not the case . There were 2 families there with children under 12. I fail to see the point of having a no children rule but then allowing them whenever it suits, I did notice that other reviewers also mentioned this, I was hoping it might have been a one off but it would seem not. Another downside is the prices of drinks around the pool area, a small glass of ice with a splash of Diet Coke is 3.50 EUR which seems slightly excessive to me! In other similar class hotels for that much you would at least get a full can or bottle (there is a supermarket 5 mins away where you can buy bottles for about a euro).

I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends, but would point out the 2 negative points above.
Overall we had a lovely time and would return.

Dear Guest,

We are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Thalassa Boutique Hotel & Spa and thank you for describing the hotel, the meals and your spacious suite. WiFi in outdoor areas is sometime a little tricky but our IT is working on this constantly to prefect.

The one family was a one off and the second families child is above 12 years of age which is within the hotel's policy. we are pleased to know that this did not interfere with your holiday and that you would happily select Thalassa Boutique Hotel & Spa for a future stay.

We are delighted that you returned home with fond memories and we look forward to welcoming you back.

Kind regards,

I have stayed in the Thalassa Hotel before and the main reason for returning is that the hotel did not accept children under 12.

Although the Thalassa states on the web page that “Thalassa Boutique Hotel & Spa is delighted to welcome guests of 12 years and above only”, this is not the case anymore. I agree with the comment below from Richard H (15th June) that “no children” seems to apply to all guests unless they are Russian. There were 2 children one who was circa 6 years old. When in the pool his older brother tended to swing him about with squeals and howls of delight echoing around the small sunbathing area.

The hotel prides itself on being a small boutique hotel with only 58 bedrooms and hence has only a small area for sunbathing and small pool to match. Therefore older guests cannot get away from the noise.

Sunbeds were saved for this family 24 hours a day even when the family were out for most of the day and during busy times when sunbeds were not available to some guests.

Speaking to other guests who had previously been to the hotel, they also voiced that they were not happy and a number of complaints had been made. The only answer from the manager Panikos Komodromos was that “they could not stop children staying at the hotel”. If this is the case, then clearly, the hotel web page is incorrect and should be amended. At one stage apparently, the General Manager Pambos Michael stated he was not aware of children staying in the hotel, but when made aware of the situation, nothing was said. In fact the Russian family extended their stay from 4 weeks to 6 weeks.

Therefore holiday company brochures that state it is a “couples” or “no children” hotel are incorrect and in breach of miss-selling.

The breakfast was poor, eggs came broken or cold. Meats and fish are not covered and at certain times, sunlight shines directly through the windows directly onto the fish and meats.

There is a gymnasium which clearly states “strictly no person under the age of 16 and appropriate attire shall be worn”. Apparently, this does not apply to Russian children who were in the gym in only swimming trunks, nothing on their feet with the younger one trying to lift the heavy weights off a rack.

The hotel which sits on a peninsula does have a lovely outlook from both the sunrise and sunset rooms. However, occasionally, the sewers are pumped out and the smell on the sunset side during this operation is unbearable.

There are some good accommodating staff, but others that can be offhand.

It is a good holiday hotel, not a 5 star, which can provide a relaxing break without children.

Overall, unless the policy regarding children is upheld I would not return.

Dear Sir,

Firstly we would like to thank you for choosing Thalassa Boutique Hotel & Spa for your return holiday to Paphos. We have gone through the details of your review with great attention.

As we understand from members of our team as well as your review that the main concern was the one family. To rectify this issue the hotel Management had arrange for the particular family to spend the great majority of their time at our sister resort that provides endless facilities for children, and indeed the family spent 90% of their time there. Furthermore, they normally preferred the beach area of Thalassa Boutique Hotel & Spa and the beach bar, where the children policy does not apply. We do however understand your view and we do hope that this did not cause much strain on your stay.

There are always ample sunbeds available and we have no record of guests not being able to find sunbeds. We have no policy that guests must release their sunbeds if they are absent for a few hours during the day and this applies to all our guests, we make no exceptions as per nationality.

We welcome guests from all nations and back grounds and there will always be a cultural difference. The Gym rules apply to all and the Sports Supervisor does her utmost to police these rules on a daily basis, but indeed some guests are more understanding than others which does make the staff's job a little trickier.

We are sorry to hear that your eggs came broken, as we aim to ensure that all meals are served and presented in the highest possible standard and we shall look into this to further improve.

There was the unfortunate incident with the sewers but our maintenance staff saw to this immediately, rectifying as soon as possible.

It is pleasing to hear from you that a lot of the members of our staff were helpful and accommodating and that you feel Thalassa Boutique Hotel & Spa is a good holiday Hotel and that you would return.

We do hope that you remain with the fond memories of your stay and will consider us for your next visit.

Kind regards,

Stayed one night at the hotel late June 2013. It was almost empty (so seemed the whole of Cyprus).
Room was large, clean and well maintained.
Ambrosia restaurant had excellent food and very friendly service. Prices seemed reasonable.
If you want to relax in a nice hotel with beautiful sea views, look no further.
If you prefer busy nightlife, you may want a hotel nearer tourist strip in downtown Pafos.

We recently returned from a fantastic holiday at the Elysium hotel near Paphos. For our last night we decided to venture away from the hotel and booked a table at the Psari Sea Food restaurant. The location is excellent and we were made to feel incredibly welcome and even more so once they discovered we had travelled over to the restaurant for the evening. We thoroughly enjoyed our food whilst enjoying the amazing view from the terrace and would recommend the restaurant to anyone visiting that area of Cyprus. A perfect evening.

Whilst we did not venture into the hotel it is in a beautiful setting and if the outside areas and restaurant are anything to go by then it is a great hotel.

Just spent a brilliant evening at the Thalassa. Dinner in the fish restaurant was wonderful. The bedroom was luxury. Ewan on Reception is one of the best customer-facing members of staff you will find, his employer should be proud of him. Breakfast is everything you could ever want from the Full English to continental with everything in between. The staff throughout the hotel is quietly attentive which is a real skill these days.

We have just returned from a week's stay in the Thalassa and we have had a great time. We found the staff pleasant and helpful, always prepared to spend time to have a chat but always professional. Special mention to Ewan, Olga and Marianna, as well as the girl who kept room 103 so clean and tidy. The location of the hotel is fantastic, overlooking Coral Bay Beach. There are plenty of sun beds and sun shades around the pool, which itself is a good size and very clean. One nice touch was the complimentary fresh fruit "kebabs" brought to us as we relaxed by the pool.
The breakfast was lovely, plenty of choice at the buffet as well as being able to have Eggs Benedict or poached or fried eggs made to order. We did not have chance to use the hotel restaurants this trip but will have the opportunity later, as we enjoyed ourselves so much we are planning a return trip in September.
