Recently back from a really good break at the Pioneer Beach Hotel. Great hotel, food was excellent with top quality Cypriot food available every night. Really helpful & friendly staff. Great location out of the hussle & bustle of Paphos, but within reasonable walking distance of the harbour. Fully agree with all the other positive remarks made by other reviewers. Couldn't fault anything, will return & would recommend to anyone looking for an exception couples only hotel.

Overall, we loved our week here. We would definitely recommend it, though we won't be returning for the reasons below. It's "very good" rather than "amazing".

We stayed in a Superior Deluxe Room, on an "Ultra All Inclusive" basis. This was a very good decision, as we had wonderful views over the sea, and of the sunset, and we could eat a la carte all week. We decided to book the flight with BA and the hotel directly, and it was a little bit cheaper than using Thomson I think, but it meant we flew BA - a far nicer flight, and at much more civilised times! We hired a car for the week (€60) - so we were able to get to the hotel no problem, and then could go off under our own steam throughout the week when the urge took us.

As I said in my intro, we had a lovely week here, but won't rush back.

The good:

+ Location: 40 minute walk to Paphos
+ Beach: Just enough sand, and well-kept
+ Gardens: VERY well kept, and lovely to look at and wander through
+ Pool: We didn't use it, but it was very quiet and clean
+ Staff: With 1 exception, all of the staff I encountered were really helpful - they remembered our order from one day to the next, and genuinely took an interest. They made us feel very welcome
+ Cleanliness: The hotel was very well-maintained, inside and out, and the standard of housekeeping was high
+ Food: The quality of the food at the a la carte restaurants was generally very good
+ Superior check-in: Diana, who checked us in, was superb - very welcoming, and talked to us several times throughout our week. Again, she took a genuine interest, and was very friendly.
+ Late breakfast: A lovely touch to be able to use the separate restaurant and have breakfast until 11am.
+ Spa: The best massage I have had in a very long time!

The areas for improvement:
- The restaurants: The main buffet was very poor, and the menus in the a la carte restaurants was repetitive - to the point that we tried to book dinner at the sister restaurant next door - though we couldn't.
- Aircraft noise: Whilst it was fairly infrequent (perhaps 12-15 flights per day), the noise from departing/arriving aircraft disturbed us several times during our stay - we could hear it in the room with the door closed, and it woke us up on the beach more than once
- Evening entertainment: Horses for courses, I understand, but I found the evening entertainment more of an irritation. The Sports Bar had (inevitably) sports TV on, and the main bar had a singer every evening. As a result, neither was quiet. On warm evenings we were able to use the terrace which was quieter
- Room/Decor: It was all a little dated. I was surprised to find out that it had been refurbished - recently - the furnishings and decor weren't to our taste. Also, the Superior Deluxe rooms are no bigger than standard rooms at all - they just have bigger balconies, access to the late breakfast & cabana. The actual accommodation is the same, and it's one of the smaller rooms I've stayed in.
- Cabana/Beach: We were allocated the last cabana on the beach. Initially I was really excited, as I thought that would mean we'd have a lovely, quiet place to relax for the week - but the aircraft noise often interrupted the snoozing. The machine for cleaning the beach was left next to our cabana every day, and it was an eye-sore. Also, the waiting staff didn't come on to the beach to serve drinks once in the time we were there - those in cabanas in the garden area had waiter service, we didn't... which just made it less relaxing.
- Breakfast: We had breakfast in the Christina restaurant every day. The food felt a bit monotonous, and I wished it had been a la carte breakfast instead of/as well as buffet. Buffet breakfasts are usually a bit bland, lukewarm, rubbery, etc.

So, in summary, an 8/10 experience. The value felt good - I would encourage everyone to contact the hotel directly and ask for a price for booking direct. This has the bonus that you pay for the hotel cost when you arrive, not months in advance!

Room Tip: Definitely go Superior Deluxe, definitely go sea-view, and go All Inclusive

We are both 21 and 22 and wanted a relaxing holiday with tender loving care and no kids.. i can tell you now this place is paradise! Gorgeous! The staff are the nicest people in the entire world, we didnt lift a finger! We arrived on 14may at 23.00 was greeted like royalty with fresh cloths and champagne, cases was taken straight to our rooms and we was checked in literally in 5 mins! In our room we had 2 plates of fresh salad, ham and chicken.. now the food oh my god.. it is beautiful!!!! The steak is gorgeous!! We was all inclusive and more than got our moneys worth.. there was a lot of old age people there but it is that kind of relaxing place and thats what we wanted. Ill be honest entertainment is rubbish! But its posh 5 star so theres no cheap stupid stuff like youd get in benidorm.. sports bar is best at night! You dont wear a band you have a card its a little annoying cos you have to sign a receipt everytime you have a drink.. slightly annoying. The beach is lush, the food is lush, rooms are everything is! Deffos reccomend if you want a hol in paradise in pure relaxation with beautiful views and special treatment!!!!! :) the regina restuarant is beaut!

We have just returned from the pioneer beach hotel and what a fantastic hotel it is. It cannot be faulted. The hotel is spotlessly clean and very beautiful from the huge reception area to the private beach. The rooms are cleaned thoroughly on a daily basis to an exceptionally high standard and the service is outstanding. The pool area is gorgeous and with enough sun beds for everyone, and the beautifully kept gardens also have lots of sun beds under the shade of lovely palm trees. Then there's the lovely private beach. This also has plenty of sun loungers with umbrellas and there are also private cabanas. The food is of an outstanding quality with different menus each night and the waiting staff are so friendly and helpful and will go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your stay as do the reception staff, nothing is too much for them. There's not an awful lot to do in the evenings but this may be down to the early season but there is a lovely cocktail bar and pub in the hotel. The surrounding area is very peaceful and there are shops and bars a 10 minute walk away. Two nightclubs are now open and it's about a 40 minute walk to the harbour which also has some lovely restaurants. This hotel is a 4 star but having travelled to many countries and stayed in many 4 star hotels , I would actually quite happily rate this as a 5 star. I will definitely recommend this beautiful hotel and hopefully will return next year.

Room Tip: If you can choose a sea view room, as the mountain view rooms look out over a busy road.also I would...

Recently arrived back from a 2 week all inclusive holiday/honeymoon at the pioneer and can't wait to go back again.

Despite the unusual weather at the start of the holiday it soon brightened up and we had an amazing time :-)

Due to getting married in the sister hotel Athena beach and our honeymoon we were upgraded on arrival which was quite late and in.our room was a lovely meat salad and wine waiting.

The rooms were cleaned daily and towels refreshed twice a day. Pool towels were also provided.

The pool area was also spotless and sun beds available throughout the day so I didn't need to get up early to book them.

The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. They could not do enough for us and we were greeted warmly when going for food and drinks.

The food was amazing both in the buffet restaurant and the Al a carte restaurant as we were all Inc we were allowed 2 visits per week to the Al carte restaurant.

It was both my father's and husbands birthday whilst staying and both recieved a birthday poster balloons wine and fruit in the room which i thought was a nice touch.

The evening entertainment was a singer every night so being a younger couple we did venture out some evenings to the local bar street for a bit more lively entertainment.

We can not wait to return for another visit.

My husband and I have just returned (14 May 2014) from Pioneer Beach. Cannot fault it at all. Good quality food, good service, clean and comfortable rooms. Staff very friendly and helpful. Mark (rep) was one of the best, very helpful, mixed with holiday makers not only in the hotel rep's area but made it his business to walk around the grounds speaking to all. All in all a thoroughly
enjoyable relaxing stay, will definitely return to this hotel again.

Room Tip: Superior rooms are larger than standard but cost more. Standard sea view is as good as anything.

Stayed for 7 nights in a superior room on an all inclusive basis.

Ate in one of the a la carte restaurants every night apart from one. Apart from some wines and a very few spirits all drinks were included in the package as was the food.

The food was always of good quality, well presented even in the buffet.

The superior room also gave us the option of having breakfast in the Christiana restaurant, quality service with an 8 - 11am opening so no rush to be down for breakfast which was nice for what was a chilled out holiday.

Our room was clean, as were all of the public areas.

The staff are a credit to to hotel.
