“Little bit tired...”
Reviewed September 26, 2008

My partner and I booked this hotel via expedia after doing lots of research online and seeing other reviews.
The pictures we could find of the hotel interior turned out to be very misleading.
The lift was very rickety, dated and felt quite unsafe!
Equally our bedroom was very tired and old. Shower was run-down and there was very little storage space.
We had booked a front-sea view, and ended up with a view of the sea from round the corner of the hotel - not quite what we had in mind with "front sea-view room".
We attempted to change rooms but we were told that the hotel was fully booked.
At this point we were quite despondent.
Worse was to come: We are both 28 and were easily the youngest there by about 40 years!
Very few young couples about!

Despite this, we tried to keep upbeat and were pleasantly surprised by the exterior of the hotel. The pool and the grounds, including the outdoor restaurants and bars were wonderful, quite beautiful at night. The staff were warm and friendly and the food was very reasonable in price and selection, as well as being delicious
Entertainment was clearly tailored to an older audience, but was not all bad - Tuesday Greek night with traditional dancing was excellent! Karaoke on a Thursday not so much...

Our initial disappointment upon seeing our room was won over by the much better facilities. We reasoned that if we spent our holiday in our room, something was clearly amiss!
As far as somewhere to sleep and keep our things, the room was okay.

I think anyone booking this hotel should go with an open mind. The hotel rooms are desperately in need of some updating, and I would recommend that the younger couples keep in mind that they will be in the minority, but everything else is worth the trip.

If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful get-away then this is for you.

  • Liked — Pool and pool-bars were great. Food had a great buffet selection.
  • Disliked — Rooms are much older than advertised. View was not as we booked. Balcony non-existent.

This is a great hotel to stay in. It is fab not to have kids running around (and probably more annoying, their parents shouting at them to behave :-).

I found the hotel clean and tidy, the are staff extremely friendly and helpful and the food was much better than I seen in a 4 star hotel of this type. The variety of food was great.

There is a bit of an issue with people getting up at the crack of dawn to lay towels on the sun beds by the pool, but to be honest I didn't like lying around the pool as much - I found it a bit 'cliquey' and much preferred the beach. The sea is lovely, not very cold and just perfect for lying floating for long periods.

There were people from all age groups when I was there. I wouldn't recomend for groups of friends of a younger age but it was perfect for couples of all ages. The bus service into Pafos was great, and every time we got taxis back the cab drivers were great characters. This was my 2nd time in Cyprus (Ayia Napa last time) and on both occasions I have found the locals to be very friendly.

If you walk for 5-10 minutes from the hotel there is a cluster of bar/bar cafes and shops, and again every 5-10 minutes all the way into the harbour area there are groups of restaurants etc.

I would definitely return to this hotel and adults only hotels are the way forward for me for sure!

We did not actually stay at this hotel, but spent virtually our entire holdiay using their facilities!!!

We booked a nearby hotel, which was awful, and wandered into this hotel pool area for a drink early on in our stay. Thank goodness we did. The staff were helpful (we told them we were not their guests) and the place was clean and everyone was friendly. As you can buy lunch and drinks we were not getting anything for free - except their fab evening entertainment (our hotel had none even though it was 4 star).

The hotel has a shop with a large stock of holiday gear and papers, magazines etc. There is plenty of space, loads of sunbeds, extra activities like pool, darts and pinpong if you are feeling energetic. People staying there told us they had been coming to the same place for years. The food looked great (again we were told of the choice by guests).

We will return to Cyprus and will not even look elsewhere as this is simply one of the best hotels I have ever entered.

Booked this hotel in November 2007 based on the reviews on trip adviser. One silly one all the rest ok. Nearly missed our holiday as our son was taken into hospital one week before we were due to fly. Finished up flying in 4 days late but the hotel and first choice were wonderful and accommodating in every way. Holiday for our 25th wedding anniversary and it is easily the best we have ever had. Booked a sea view room and it was spacious with a fab view of the beach. It was also at the end of the corridor and therefor private. During our 10 day stay we received 3 bottles of wine from the management and 2 lots of lovely fruit. It is a long walk from the harbour but a relatively short bus ride at only 1.50 euros from nearly outside the hotel. Ask reception to get you a taxi and one is there before you get out of the front door!! 10 euros with tip to paphos harbour. A bit expensive but saves a long hot walk. Food in hotel brilliant with lots of theme nights and you must NOT miss flambe night. Best steak I have ever had. It was a special holiday for us and it lived up to our expectations even though it was shorter than we originally planned. Went on trip to Egypt. Wow what a dirty place but would not have missed it for the world. Now we know why the Pyramids have to be seen before you die! Guests are obsessed by the availabilty of sunbeds but we could always find one somewhere in the extensive grounds. The sun shone all the time we were there apart from on the trip to the Troodos mountains where there was a spectacular thunderstorm. Very exciting!! PS No Mosquitos ever seen thank goodness. Tip -buy aqua shoes to get in the sea and the rocks are no problem. Cannot fault this hotel we felt special all the time we were there, nothing seemed too much trouble. Enjoy your holiday as we did!!!

We stayed at the Pioneer at the end of August for 2 weeks and thought the hotel was really nice, there is fresh fruit/water, bath robe and slippers on arrival also plenty of tea and coffee which was replenished daily.

The rooms were very clean and the domestic staff very helpful and nice but we were very disapointed with the sea view we had paid extra for, it was at best a very partial view as it was mainly a pool/hotel view so be wary if paying extra for the view, for a proper sea view you have to book a superier room not a sea view room!! the balcony's are also very small.

Pool is lovely stayed hot all day long but beware if you like lying beside the pool you need to get up early and i mean early get ready to set your alarm for 6am!! If you don't then there are plenty of sunbed's on the grass.

We stayed as bed n breakfast and can not fault that at all there as an excellent selection of hot and cold food available. Only had dinner at the hotel once and that was on the Cyprus night I did not really like the food but I am quite a fussy eater so will let them of with it as the entertainment during it made up for it. Staff were ok though at the pool bar area could do with learning how to smile they were not very friendly.

Eating out there are plenty of nice restraunts especially down by the harbour i recomend Chloe's (very nice chinese though you prob will have to book as it's very busy) and also the harbour restraunt.

Cyprus seemed to be very expensive 2 drinks were roughly costing about 10 euros (1 Keo and 1 vodka n lemonade) an evening meal cost us about 36 euro's (set meal) up to 58 euros for 3 courses and a couple of drinks.

Overall a nice holiday but had better.

This Hotel was clean, friendly and we were looked after from the moment we got there. It was my birthday while we were there and a bottle of red wine and a basket of fruit were put in the room while we were out, with a banner on the door saying Happy birthday! a lovely personal touch! The food was good with plenty of choice and all cooked to perfection! The pool was clean, all though the beach was a bit rocky. The entertainment was good all though the second week was a replica of the first! It is definatley a first choice for anyone looking for a relaxing holiday with out the kids!!! (there were a lot of teachers staying there when we went!!) The hotel is a bit away from Pathos itself but the bus stop is only a few hundred yards away and it runs right through paphos down to Coral bay and it only costs One euro twenty cents to get to Coral (takes about half an hour though) To get into Paphos a taxi was about 8 euro and was easily booked from the hotel. Everything you could need is all ready in the room even an iron and ironing board! (dressing gowns and slippers were provided too)
Bit pricey on the drinks at the hotel but we tended to walk 20mins to the triangle and visit the two pubs down there which were a lot cheaper!
I would definately go back to this hotel again, it was a lovely 2 weeeks holiday!

  • Liked — The Rooms were clean and everything on hand (ironing board, kettle even dressing gown and slippers!)
  • Disliked — Only draw back was it was 40 minutes walk into Paphos

We have just returned from a wonderful chilled-out holiday with our daughter and son-in-law. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Pioneer Beach. Every aspect of this hotel was excellent.....reception,rooms,food,maid service etc etc. A slight niggle would be the location but that would never put us off future visits. We stayed at the Athena Beach last year for our Daughter's wedding which was amazing, but I would say because the Pioneer Beach is an "adults only hotel" it was perfect for us because we needed a quiet relaxing get away from it all holiday and that was exactly what we got.
We had our evening meal in the hotel on two occasions and both times the food and service were first class. There is an Indian restaurant nearby which we would recommend and also a local restaurant, a taxi ride away called Apomero which serves fantastic local cuisine....try the stuffed tomatoes!...you will not be disappointed.
