This was our first time in Cyprus, and both the hotel and Paphos itself impressed us immensely. Unfortunately our Thompson flights were delayed at both ends, but this was the only downside to our holiday.
Having arrived at midnight, we were immediately impressed by the entrance to the hotel and by the warm greeting from the reception staff. First impressions really do count and this welcome set the tone for the rest of our stay. We were on Half Board and had a Standard Sea View room, overlooking the pool area and the sea. The room was comfortable and of adequate size, had all the facilities we could have wished for, including a fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, large comfortable bed, two chairs, and a room safe. Our cheerful room attendant kept everything spotlessly clean, and made the bathroom positively sparkle. Although the balcony was small, it was large enough for us to sit and relax on and enjoy the sunset. It might be a good idea for the hotel to update its web site, as the standard room layout was shown to have a full balcony, and some guests may be disappointed to find that this is not the case, but it was not a problem to us.
Food was plentiful and of excellent quality. Breakfast began everyday with a glass of champagne, followed by a selection of fruit, juices, cereals, pastries, cold meats and cheeses, and a large variety of cooked food. We took a very reasonably priced lunch at the hotel on most days. Dinner was a buffet, with each night of the week a different theme, but again, there was a large variety to choose from with something to suit all tastes. House wine was quite palatable and cost 11.50 euros a bottle. For variation, we also enjoyed an excellent meal in the a la carte restaurant with an allowance of 10 euros per person against the bill, and also went to Flambé Night and enjoyed both the food and the theatrics of the chef.
The evening entertainment comprised of singers of varying degrees of talent. We especially enjoyed listening to David.
I had two excellent treatments in the wonderful spa.
The walk to Paphos harbour took 40 minutes along the coastal footpath, or buses ran about every 10-15 minutes from just along the road from the hotel. Single tickets were 1 euro, or all day tickets were 3 euros.
Sun beds were plentiful, and there was never a problem finding one.
Although not impressed with Thomson Airways, our Thompson rep, Karen was always very helpful and keen to make our holiday go well, without being pushy about selling trips. We did go on one trip – ‘Love Cyprus’ which was a good way for us to get to know the island.
Finally a big thank to all the staff, who, without exception were friendly and helpful.

I have just spent a fabulous 2weeks at the Pioneer Beach Hotel. The food, facilities, dining room staff were all top class. Rooms were great and beds changed every 2 days towels daily. The surroundings were spotless and well maintained.
The only downside to the holiday was my iPhone being stolen 10mins before we were due to leave the hotel, I was assured it would not be a member of staff. However my phone is now in use in Paphos and pictures of the waitress who we had tipped all afternoon are now coming through to my iPad via my photo stream. I have attempted to contact the manager but have so far had no response. Such a shame as we will now not return to this hotel.

Room Tip: We had a mountain view which was excellent, the room remained cool through the day.

We have had the pleasure of staying at this hotel many times and have always enjoyed our stay. Its location away from the centre of Paphos but still within walking distance make it ideal. The refurbishment that as just been completed has brought it back up the level of its sister hotels and make for a relaxing and peaceful holiday.Without doubt this hotels strong points are quality of the food in all the restaurants and the staff who are quite simply superb. It is like greeting old friends on arrival and leaving is quite hard at times. With three restaurants and two bars there is some thing to suit all tastes. The pool area and gardens are maintained to a very high standard and the hotels private beach is a popular spot for those who like to soak up the sun.Above all this is a hotel where you can do as much or as little as you wish, and are left to enjoy the resort the island and of course The Pioneer Beach Hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the carpark at the left side of the hotel when viewing the building from the front...

We really enjoyed our All Inclusive stay at the Pioneer Beach in Cyprus. Staff members (mostly E European) were genuinely helpful, and took great pleasure in ensuring that the first class ambience of the hotel shone through. Everywhere was spotlessly clean, and the food in the 2 restaurants which we used during our 10 day stay could not be faulted. However, had we not been All Inclusive guests, we would have definitely not used the hotel Bar facilities and its grossly overpriced drinks. The next time we stay at the Pioneer Beach, which we fully intend to do, it will be on B&B basis.

I totally agree with previous reviews regarding the service and quality of food. Before booking we looked at earlier reviews which one person complained about the reception staff - what?
The staff were superb giving prompt attention and always smiling and i cannot praise them highly enough.
Food was superb as was the waiting staff and the chefs who were always ready for a chat and a bit of banter.
Noticed that there was a fair few romanians employed as waiting staff but were very efficient and had good command of the english language and did not let the side down.
The disease i refer to is the one relating to the sunbeds, it was always germans that were guilty of getting up at the crack of dawn to claim the best sunbeds - not any more - i sat on the balcony every morning with a cuppa and watched the steady flow of pensioners claim their beds for the day, one after the other. It was funny and sad at the same time.
My wife and i would have breakfast, go back to the room and pick up some towels and go and choose a sunbed either by the pool or in the garden - plenty to choose from even after an invasion from a hoard of germans on day 3 of our stay. All i can say is get a life.
The entertainment was pretty dire and i think that if this is part of the package Thomsons should make a lot more effort, maybe a comedian or a duo, not a solo artist singing the same old songs.
We tended to go out for a walk in the evening to a local bar or get a bus to the harbour because of this.
We would recommend the spa having had a massage, the staff were very professional and attentive.
Having said that, you should not let this put you off as it is a wonderful hotel with wonderful staff that fulfill your every need that makes the holiday you save for, and hope for become a reality.

Room Tip: Pay a bit more and get a full sea view

We have just come back from a wonderful week at this hotel, all that is written in the other reviews is true. We were treated exceptionally well, we had booked the superior room and it's well worth it. We had champagne on arrival and every morning for breakfast. The service, food and cleanliness of the place was exceptional and any one going here will not be disappointed.
