Alexander The Great Beach Hotel
Ranked #2 of 85 Hotels in Paphos
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 3, 2014

Firstly, feel free to message us with any questions.

We were shuttled by private taxi to and from the airport (Thomson inclusive) which takes about
20 mins depending on how reckless your driver is (remember to clunk click).
The airport itself was efficient both arriving and departing.

On arrival at hotel the check in process was quick (one form) and room was ready at our 3pm
local time arrival. FYI You have until midday to check out on final day.

Dining. Breakfast always the same and beside the main pool. Open from 0700
to 1030. There is no rush due to the great sun bed allocation system so
enjoy your lay in and go down at 0930. You can even grab a UK newspaper on
your way down from the hotel shop that opens at 9. We went full board as
the difference from half board when we booked in January was only 26p each!
Lunch is at the same location as breakfast from 1230 to 1430 and does vary
a little every day. Evening meals from 1830 to 2130 are either at 4 locations of your
choosing. The main inside buffet changing its theme every night. It can get
quite manic sometimes, we found going at 2045 was quieter and cooler. The
Italian is open 7 days per week and quite romantic inside. Food was fine too,
we did find it gets quite hot the more people that start dining, so a 1830
time suited us. The Japanese and Cypriot dining are only open on certain
days and you have to book all the latter 3 at reception. It's a personal
choice but we really liked the Japanese but not the Cypriot. Both these are
outside so dine a bit later to allow the heat to lower. You can watch the sun
go down at Japanese also if you time it right. If you go B&B there are
plenty of restaurants in the harbour for every culinary taste especially if
your vegetarian you may want to choose this option. Dress at breakfast and
lunch is as casual as you want. In the evening it's different. You will get
away with tailored shorts and polo shirt in the main buffet but it's shirt
and trousers in the speciality restaurants and they are quite strict or be
prepared to be embarrassed. All meals come with a free table bottle of
water and a choice or a glass of wine, beer or soft drink each person.

Evening entertainment was reasonable and took place most evening outside
beside the main pool with a proper stage from 9.15 to 11. Depending on
where your room is you could sit on your balcony and listen in or get table
waiter service sitting outside which is also just as nice. There is also
daytime entertainment if you wish to take part. A programme for all such
details are in your room and all you just need to find out is if your in week 1 or week 2 when you
arrive, as they cater for guests who stay a fortnight like we did.

Drinks. All drinks are reasonably priced in comparison to the harbour etc but have lower measures 25 /35 compared to 50ml outside. There are supermarkets nearby if you want to get alcohol and drinks for in room at better prices but the choice is yours. You cannot use your in room fridge for outside products or a charge of 5 euros a day will be put on your bill if you do. The mini bar is well stocked and you have tea coffee etc in abundant also supplied in your room.

Room. Definitely worth sea view if you can afford it and go for the 3rd
floor with sea and harbour view for the very best experience. We emailed in
advance and got exactly what we asked for so don't be shy. The tv has
every channel you get on freeview in the uk. If your unsure how to use
a smart tv then do get someone to show you as soon as you arrive to
appreciate to the tv system fully. The glass between bathroom and bedroom is
really weird and would have been better half the size if you do really want
to see the sea whilst having a shower in the sea view rooms (includes bath) . Beds were 2
singles pushed together but still very comfortable. Lots of drawers, cupboards,
coat hangers and hair dryer and free safe all provided.

Alexander's bar shows football or most bars in harbour area do the same.

Pool area. Great sunbed allocation system. We wanted the adult pool area as
it's quieter and no kids allowed and also a bit more room around the beds. TOP TIP Remember
the sun comes over the hotel in the morning so any beds on the hotel side
of the pools will be in the shade until around 11. You can move beds during your
stay so don't worry if your 1st choice is unavailable or what you
expected. The pool temperatures are lovely. Not freezing and do warm up as
the day goes on from the natural air / sun temperature. Do expect to be in the
40s for most of the summery days. Sometimes there is a nice sea breeze to
cool you as well as regular dips in the pool or sea.
WiFi is free and accessible everywhere and actually excellent speeds available.
.
We did not use the gym, spa and children's club but heard all were very
good. I didn't think it really was a hotel for kids but we saw some and
they were not heard much - thank goodness.

If the manager is listening then the improvements we would make to improve the hotel further would be; introduce a better pool cleaning system and a gardener.

All the staff employed did a great job every day. Too many to name but
Angelina and Elana caught our attention with efficiency and service always
with a smile.

Room Tip: 361 was excellent views of the sun, sunset and harbour - Probably only bettered by 365 !

Dear Reviewer,

Let us thank you for choosing Alexander The Great Beach Hotel for your holidays. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and comments about your stay in our hotel.

Thank you for your good comments regarding the specialty restaurants Kiku the Japanese, Garibaldi the Italian, and Limanaki the Cypriot tavern where guests can eat once a week. Also for mentioning the summer dress code that we have for June, July and August; in the main restaurant we allow smart Bermuda style shorts, shirt and shoes for the men, also in the Limanaki and Kiku outside restaurants. However in the inside Garibaldi restaurant we require long trousers, smart shirt and shoes.

Also the spacious well furnished rooms with ample storage and hanging space, the 32 inch smart TV in all the rooms, that the tea and coffee facilities are complimentary as is the safe and that there is free WiFi throughout the hotel.

Looking forward to welcoming you back on your next visit, with warm regards from all of us here at the Alexander the Great Beach Hotel.

Having stayed here two years ago, just prior to the renovations, we were intrigued to see what difference had been made to what we already considered an excellent hotel, and we were not dissappointed.
The direct booking was very easy and courteous, with all queries answered promptly and efficiently. As our flight was late and we arrived too late for dinner, we were offered room service or a voucher for the meal that we had missed, without asking for either. The room was a delight with all the amenities promised prior to the refit and the swimming pool was excellent.
As usual the breakfasts were wonderful and staff remembered us from two years ago, making us feel very special and as if we were with family. The evening meals in the main restaurant were as usual, themed and had numerous options so that there was never a problem with my wife's gluten allergy. The Japanese, Italian and greek themed evenings in their separate dinning rooms at no additional cost were the highlights of the culinary arts they displayed, with the service being absolutely immaculate and considerate. Our sunbed chosen to look out over the sea was wonderful and we could not wish for a more attentive or efficiently attentive break, we look forward to the next one.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the pool and the sea can be a little noisier than the rest with the evening en...

Dear Reviewer,

Let me express my sincere thanks and appreciation for your kind words and to be given the opportunity to extend our hospitality.

I am delighted to read that even before you arrived you found the service provided on booking to be prompt and efficient. Also that the recent refurbishments met with your approval and you liked the rooms and the all new swimming pools. Thank you for pointing out that your wife found plenty to eat and that her gluten allergy was catered for within the restaurants as this is important for us and other guests visiting us that may be worried or concerned prior to their arrival. Finally I am so pleased to read that the staff remembered you and made you feel at home.

Looking forward to welcoming you back to our hotel in the not too distant future.

The hotel is really nice and while a few of the amenities are 4 star + the service during our stay is definitely worthy of 5 star. Nothing was too much trouble all the staff worked hard to help you and were amazingly friendly. There were a couple of small issues which were down to the travel agent mis-selling (thomsons) but that was not the fault of the hotel and the manager tried to put things right even though thomsons denied the issue. The wedding terrace was beautiful.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms at a minimum

I thought this was one of the best hotel that I have been to.The food and entertainment were excellent and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful.Would definitely stay there again. The fact that you were allocated a sunbed meant that you never had to worry about finding one,the bed was yours for length of your stay no matter what time of day .

Room Tip: Rooms with a sea view would be the best.

We echo many of the reviews because a holiday in Cyprus based at this hotel simply assures you of a wonderful holiday. All the staff are kind and nothing is ever too much trouble, we simply have to mention by name Emma, Paula and Quentin who always made our dining experience special. In the evenings we often watched the Kanika All Stars (Warren, Steven, Beth, Emily and Ami) who were excellent and we really enjoyed the talent they all have. We enjoyed a glass of wine often served by the delightful Angelina, also a very special thank you to Alina for the best frozen Strawberry Daiquiri on the Island and always served with a smile. The rooms, pool, bar and dining area where always clean and tidy. Allocated sunbeds what a great idea and will make us come back to hotel. All the above make your holiday so we have already booked to go back to the ATG next June (50 weeks and counting). So I would not hesitate to recommend.

Room Tip: Book seaview so worth it!

just got back from 2 glorious weeks at the alexander the great and each time we go back it is still as wonderful as previous visits we booked through Thomson and they were great from your own taxi pick up from airport to hotel to the return taxi pick up back to airport at end of stay
The hotel from check in with lovely staff and welcome drink to the porter delivering your cases to the room we booked a sea view this time and it was well worth the extra , all rooms have been refurbished to a very high standard and the cleanliness is outstanding from twice daily towel changes to a bed turn down service in evening with a little sweet on your pillow.
the complete thing for me as well was the allocation of sun beds on arrival which consists of 2 loungers umbrella chair and side table you choose where you want to sit and they put room number on it and that is yours for duration of holiday the pool is beautiful with a swim up bar and jaccuzzi baths in it as well what more could u wish for.
we stayed full board and the meals are very varied each evening a different themed evening with plenty to choose from. u must also try the italian restaurant with a waiter service it is something very special and if you are half board you can swap a meal from main restaurant to go there which is a must
The restaurant staff are so polite and will always welcome you with a smile and as we are previous guests welcome you back the manager also walks around at meal times and asked you if everything is ok.
The kanika all stars are a lovely group of people warren as entertainment manager and the three girls and steven are so friendly and come and talk to you to make u feel welcome and they work tirelessly doing daytime activities as well all there shows have a lot of effort put into them most of the shows are outside by pool
i know i say you cannot fault this hotel but it is true with so many people returning each year.
all i will say is well done to them all and will be returning again next year

Room Tip: have a sea view room it is well worth the extra money

We picked this hotel from a Thomas Cook brochure. We were not disappointed with our choice. This is a wonderful hotel in a great location (a short walk to the harbour) with modern comfortable rooms, fantastic facilities and great activities/entertainment. The food is varied, well presented and very more-ish! But what really made this an enjoyable holiday for us were the staff. From the manager down they were bright, friendly, attentive and efficient. We met a number of people who go back regularly to this hotel and now we know why. We are planning to return next year.
