Just come to the end of our 11 day stay at Paphos Gardens in the self catering section Mimoza, and here's our experience:
Location, only 10 minutes by foot to harbour, 30 minutes to Tomb of the Kings, lots of good eating places nearby. Bryn the Porter from Nottingham is really helpful, and friendly. Pool area (Oasis) is quiet. Resort supermarket is well stocked with friendly and helpful staff.
Where to start.....the apartment was very basic, with only one plug socket meaning that you can't really self cater, as you can't cook much. Cleaning was non-exisitent, only had a maid for half of the days we were here, and all she did was make the bed, we didn't get clean sheets during our stay or bath mat, the towels were changed after a week! The bathroom floor wasn't cleaned during our stay and no surfaces were wiped down - all in all, pretty awful. The shower is either boiling hot or freezing cold and changes every couple of minutes, the tap got scorching and I burnt myself on it, with no water pressure. In the bathroom there was no hot water available in the sink.
The apartment backs onto a busy road and there are hotel staff in the apartments in this block, who party every night banging doors and screaming, when we complained after nearly a week of no sleep, to a very unhelpful and rude receptionist - Tosca, I think, we were told that there was nothing the hotel could do, and that maybe the police will come if they are really that noisy!!
Sunbed cushions around the Oasis pool were really dirty. Food and drink was very over priced and the food from the pool area was awful, two baileys were EUR 10, circa £8.
Thoughts on Paphos itself:
Overall quite nice but quite expensive, partly due to the strengthening of the EUR recently, but expect to pay EUR 45 for a meal for two, and EUR 8 for two drinks.
Restaurants - Koh i noor Indian restaurant just near the hotel is fantastic, with really nice staff and great food, Les Amis give enormous portions of good quality food and nice staff, Phivos along the way to the harbour is nice for greek food. Didn't go there but apparently the Pagoda Chinese isn't very good and is expensive.
Bars - Friendship bar near resort is good for footie, and a really nice man who runs it, Evis is good for live shows - Blues Brothers particularly good, and John the barman is very nice. Six Bells along the way to the harbour does great Brandy Sours and the owners are lovely.
Attractions: Tomb of the Kings a bit of a let down. Mosaics are pretty impressive. Walk along the beach to the harbour is a nice walk, and in the other direction too. We did a jeep safari to Akamas with Evis, and the driver, Luis did seem to be after tips by telling sob stories, and on reflection it wasn't worth the EUR 40 we paid, as it was just a day in a jeep basically!
If we came again we'd stay at either Athena Beach Hotel or Almyria, they looked the nicest!!
