“Great hotel, great people!”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

We had a fantastic time at Helios Bay Hotel when I visited with my sister in July - the hotel staff were incredibly accommodating and kind.

The room was very clean and we enjoyed our buffet breakfast with a sea-view every morning!

We would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

We arrived at the Helios late on Sunday 18th August. We were greeted by the lovely receptionist who gave us our keys to room 315. We dumped the cases and went straight to the pool bar where we had a quick bite to eat before it closed and then unpacked. Getting up the next morning we went onto our balcony and had a lovely view. The room was spotless and after exploring realised very quickly we had chosen an excellent hotel. The staff were friendly, the grounds and communal areas were spotless. Unfortunately on the 5th day of our holiday our 13 year old daughter collapsed with seizures (she'd never had them before) by the pool. It was chaos for about 15 minutes until the ambulance came and during this time the Manager's wife (who used to be a nurse at Paphos General Hospital) came to her aid along with the wonderful Lucy (and husband Dermot) who was a guest who luck would have it was a nurse. All the residents who were around the pool at the time also came to help too. A pregnant lady who I didn't get the name off helped me pack some things until the ambulance came. Unfortunately for us the ambulance we were in crashed on the way to hospital into a taxi. Luckily no-one was badly injured. After a couple of days in hospital our daughter was allowed out. Nicos the Hotel Manager rang the hospital to see how we were and even came to visit! Over and above his remit. Everyone at Helios was so kind and everyday asked how Alex was. From Management, receptionists and even the cleaners (who I might add came in every day and did an excellent job) brightened the rest of our stay by making animals with the towels. I asked other residents and they’d not had this special treatment!! We'd come in from a day out and there was an elephant or a dog. Certainly put a smile on our faces. On a Monday they have a BBQ which Nicos’s wife prepares and he called our room to ask if Alex wanted to come down and have his wife paint her fingernails as when she was waiting with her for the ambulance she promised she would do this. Again, another smile. Even if we had not had such a trauma I cannot praise Helios Bay Hotel and Apartments enough. It has a lovely family feel and there are some nice eating places very close by. Tried every one of them and would recommend the Sienna next door. The New Horizon bar was great and did great food too. There is a little shop which was quite expensive but OK for immediate essentials, but just down the road by bus or car on the way to Paphos is a Lidl which was well used by us. Helios is in a lovely location and unfortunately we didn’t get to do as much as we wanted to in Cyprus because of what happened but Helios is a beautiful place with lovely people who we cannot thank enough for their help and support during a difficult time. It’s a great place to stay for exploring or just lazing by the pool or taking a short stroll to the beach beyond the grounds.
I would heartily recommend a visit to this lovely oasis in Cyprus and we hope to go back soon.
Thank you so much Helios Bay Hotel (all of you) for everything, nothing was too much trouble. Cannot praise you and your apartments enough. Thank you. xx
Best wishes Angela, Kev and Alex Owen
PS Alex is doing well and has gone back to school awaiting hospital to give her the all clear.

Stayed here from 4th August 2013 til the 18th August 2013.

Sorry Helios but we won't be returning, however, I would strongly recommend this lovely hotel to people who are looking for a nice quiet location. I did not wish a rowdy location but I would have liked to have been able to walk to the busier areas as we do enjoy a walk. We did try, but it took us around 2 hours to go to Paphos, and about 2 and half hours to reach Coral Bay. There are buses available which are really frequent, we paid 15 euros each for a weekly ticket, but this only allows you to travel up to 11pm, after that you need to pay 2.50 euros, and they do only run up to a certain time, (no one could really advise us of the exact time) therefore, we did not spend as much time in Paphos as we would have liked each time we visited. We are going back next year, and if the Helios was in a better location, we would certainly be going there.

I could not fault the Helios Bay Hotel. When we first arrived we were given a ground floor room, which did not have a very nice outlook, and was very dull and drab. We requested a change. This was given to us the following morning without any arguments, and the room was amazing, it had a beautiful side sea view (room 204). The room was cleaned every day by the friendly maids, and our towels were also changed every day. The breakfast was nothing to write home about, but it was adequate. The staff were so helpful, and could not do enough for us.

My special thanks goes to Thea, Inna, and Florentina @ the pool bar, they were so friendly and always had a smile for us - loved them. The same comments go to Irini @ reception who always had a lovely conversation with us when we passed. Thanks to all the staff, especially to these four. We will come and visit you next year.

Inna, I hope your mum is ok.

There was not many bars or restaurants nearby, however, we do recommend the New Horizon Bar, especially for their cocktails - THE BEST IN PAPHOS WITHOUT A DOUBT. Breeze and Jasmine, you were both lovely, you always had a smile for us, and always stopped to chat. Thanks for the pills you gave me for my sore neck, they were very much appreciated. We will come and see you next year. Thanks also to your boss who gave us a free drink on our last day.

We did eat at a couple of local restaurants, and recommend the Caravelle for their Mousaka.

Thanks to all of you for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: higher floors have the best views

Another three weeks staying at Helios Bay making it our 26th year and we still LOVE the place! It's like returning to see your family as Nicos, Lucas and all the staff make you feel so welcome and cannot do enough to make your stay a wonderful experience. The apartments have been updated by installing new bathrooms and modern flooring on both the bedroom and lounge/kitchen areas. The hotel improve the apartments every year and although it is not 5 star accommodation, it is excellent value in every way. We have never met anybody who has a complaint about Helios Bay! The hotel was full during our stay with many families with young children but it depends whenyou go as the clients vary according to the time of year, but even being full, it was quiet and no rush to find beds around the pool area, whatever time of day you wanted to use the area - a rare treat as most hotels are like a market place in the height of summer! So it's Helios Bay again next year... see you there!
Some good restaurants to visit - Imogens and Yiannis in Kathikas village, (cheaper than in town)
Anesis on road towards Ayios Georgis near George's Ranch (lovely people, George and Helen and excellent menu.

Just returned from a 2 week stay at Helios Bay. we went from 4th August to 18th. We went with our 2 children aged 9 and 11. Going out we were delayed about two hours so only arrived at gone midnight, we were checked in by Nicos (owner) himself and were shown to our room and everything was explained. The staff were probably the most friendly i have ever experianced and always spoke the our children asking what they had been upto etc, we definely got the impression of a close family run hotel.. The rooms were spotless and cleaned imaculately and have 2 powerfull air conditioning units, we had a side see view on the second floor and the sunset views were spactactular the gardens are kept really well and there is a great walk along the sea front for an evening stroll. There is a bus stop right outside and you can go to the harbor for 1.50 euro, there are some resturants close by and the Sienna is certainly worth a visit on a special night (not the cheapest). The super market right next door is pricey so if you plan to eat in a bit then get the bus down to Lidl for some cheap stuff. If i am being really picky and i mean really picky it would be that the pressure in the shower wasn't great, could have been because we were on the top floor but the sunset views more than compensated. The pool was always quiet and there was never a silly rush to get a sun lounger in fact there was nearly always spare ones. We will definitely stay again and have no concerns about recommending it to close friends and family.
Thankyou to all at Helios Bay

Room Tip: Side sea view is good as you don't have the strong sun glaring in all afternoon, higher up rooms...

Just returned from 1 week stay at Helios, would definitely book to stay there again. Was a great location away from the busier Kato area but only 8 euro in a taxi if you wanted to get to the town or the harbour.

The hotel is situated perfectly to watch the sunset.

Staff were friendly, rooms clean, no ants or bugs (which our friends had in another hotel)!

My partner and I stayed here from the 10th july 2013 for 10 nights on a self catering basis. The first room no 130 was huge but totally non-private with a patio that was also the walk through to all the other rooms in the hotel. and the front door was opposite the gym which meant we had to listen to constant banging of weights???? So we moved at an extra cost of £45 to a beautiful room facing the sea ground floor with a fantastic view, peaceful and highly recommended. Be prepared if you like to self cater you only get two cooking rings, a toaster and a kettle and the bare minimum of untensils. it would be a good idea to take tea towels, pan scrubs ect salt, pepper . Super markets are much the same price as over here in pathos town and Lidl down the road, so dont overload yourself with food. i took t bags, coffee and some pasta sauce mixes along with some spices to make great dishes.
the barbequie night at the hotel was great value and entertaining and the staff are friendly and helpfull always. We used this hotel as a base to sight see and then relaxed there a few days and it was wonderful.
Top tip dont hire you car in pathos from CHRIS Car rentals i think he ripped us off by not refunding the deposit because we scratched the car ( so he said) and he then demanded 120 euors in cash before he would refund the £200 deposit which I think is a complete scam. Make sure you rent from a trustworthy compnay at the airport with zero excess you can get them?
All in all i would return to this peaceful place again and gain.

Room Tip: we had room 138 and i woud choose this again and again but be prepared for begging kitens?
