Paphos is a great place to go for every one. There is plenty of places to chill out or visit if you prefer to be active sight seeing and shopping. Our first trip was September 2012 and we would definately go back.
Our only issue was that our accomodation was dated and tired looking and in urgent need of a make over. We also had problems with the staff leaving our patio doors open so any one off the street could enter our room (we were on the ground floor). Our room was close to the loading bay where all deliveries were made and were groups of men would congregate daily to sort out dirty laundry. If any of them entered our room we wounldn't know until it was too late. Staff tried to suggest we had accidentally left the doors open ourselves which any one could do once but not every day. We ended up buying access to a safe which is some thing we have never had to do on holiday.
You won't need an alarm clock if you stay at the Helios as the cleaning staff will wake you every morning at 6:30. The noise out of them was unbelievable and the loudest was the management giving instructions before they started work. To us this wasn't an issue as we are early risers, but if you like your sleep don't go.
There is no free wi fi as it is impossible to connect and if you do it is for a second. Management said "what did we expect for nothing"?
When checking out reception tried to hit us with a bar bill for exactly 20 euros. We had been warned of this but didnt expect it as we didn't drink or eat at the hotel.
Dispite our issues, we would definately go back to Paphos.

We had top floor sea view 1 bed apartment, the view was stunning. The room was spacious and clean. The balcony was a good size. Great location next to coastal footpath and bus stop. So close to the sea you could hear waves. Sienna restaurant next door serves good quality food. The only poor remark is that our bathroom was very small.

We stayed at the Helios Bay hotel, in May this year for 2 weeks..This was our lsr time at Helios Bay, although we have been travelling to Cyprus for many years. The room was very clean and spacious and the maids were very friendly, as were all of the staff. We had a sea view room, overlooking the pool . The garden all round the hotel are very well maintained. The sunset from our room was fantastic. Nicos, the managing director, was very friendly and helpfull. We did not meet his brother on this visit. It is situated in a prime location, between Paphos and Coral Bay, with many restaurants and shops close by. We would certainly recommend this hotel/apartments, so much so that we have booked again for next year. Reviewed by Ian & Margaret Beetham, Blackburn, England.

Room Tip: Request a sea view room, although a little more expensive is well worth it.

As there's a lot of points already covered I thought I would just put a few points that I wish I had known;
Things to pack:
Towels for the pool - hair dryer - tea towel - scourer/washing up sponge.
I would put some washing up liquid in a small travel bottle.
We bought a fair bit of stuff from lidl and the nearby super market - and although I passed some stuff over to people who were staying longer - I felt wasteful buying a larger amount than needed - and prices there are similar if not more than UK.
Buses
Fantastic service and great position for buses.
The all day bus ticket can be bought on the bus for 3 euros each - use it as much as you wish ....BUT .....after 11 pm the ticket isn't valid - and it's 2.50 each.
The buses run fairly late.
Pathos Harbour
Catch the bus there - we made the mistake of walking along the coast path there ......it's a good hour an half walk!

BBQ night was ok -

We had a one bedroom apartment and I really struggled to sleep in the bedroom with the aircon set at 26c and unable to turn it lower - it felt very humid

We would choose to stay again - as previously stated - its not marble n mirrors.

But I felt that the pool area and the beautiful view from snack bar (unfortunately not from our side ground floor apartment - unlucky I guess)
were great - the nationality of guests seemed to be 60 % Russian and 40% uk

May look to return next year - enjoyed our week in the sun

Having read quite positive reviews I chose this hotel among others. This is not 4* hotel at all - the room was quite big for a couple with 1 bedroom and the location was fine but there is a big room for improvement re the quality of interior, especially in the bathroom. I would give max 3* but honestly, 2 is a more appropriate figure.
