bad points first, the athena beach hotel needs a revamp,we booked a normal room but it was so noisey from the very busy main road ,and room was so dated and worn, mould in bathroom we asked to be moved[first time ever done this].we had to pay for a part sea view room for the rest of our stay.all rooms that are not sea view/part sea view face on to main road so be warned.cost of part sea view is 7 euro pppn and 12 euro pppn for full sea view.the hotel allows smoking in the main entrence which is not a nice smell when in that area.drinks/snacks dear.now the good points clean rooms done daily, plenty of room and sun beds around pool/garden/beach .food nice with plenty to pick from, staff nice.

We stayed at the Athena beach from 3-10 October. My husband and I cannot stop talking about how brilliant this hotel was! The location was very good (about half an hour's walk from Paphos Town). When we arrived at the hotel the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We were put in room 703 (or it might have been 713) and the first night we didn't sleep very well, mainly due to a humming noise (maybe from a generator?) and so the next morning we went to reception and said it was very annoying, straightaway the receptionist gave us another room key and asked us to have a look at a new room to see if that was more suitable. It was so we just moved our clothes to that room. Simple as that! We were very impressed with this. The breakfast was very good, lots of choice, but beware they deep fry the bacon, for obvious reasons I didn’t try it to see what it was like! The sunbeds were well spread out, so you weren't right next to people which was good. The pool was spotlessly clean. A small gym there but watch out for the treadmill nearest the mirror, it has a mind of its own! There was an excellent outside cafe which did bbq food at lunchtime, food was fantastic. Prices were average London prices, although drinks were a bit more expensive, but Happy Hour was very handy and the girls serving the drinks were lovely and friendly. Our room was very nice, yes the decor looks a bit dated, but the hotel was only built 10 years ago, so assume this is just the overall style of the hotel. Da Vinci's bar (which was 5 minutes walk from hotel) is very nice and friendly, Riminis restaurant (which is almost behind Da Vinci's bar) was very good food, the Rib Shack excellent food and service. There was a good Italian restaurant over the road from the hotel (I can't remember the name) the food and restaurant was lovely, if you can put up with the two moody waiters who looked like they didn't want to be there! Didn't want to leave this hotel and it was one of our best holidays ever, would definitely stay here again. If we could give it more stars we would!

The Rooms (even superior rooms) are small, old fashioned, smelly carpets, noisy fridges, low quality furniture - cheap plastic one on the tiny balconies, old sheets and covers on beds, old TVs with small choice of channels. Also main parts of hotel are very tired and breakfast is a big free for all will lots of tables stacked next to each other (food was OK however). Nice pool but not child friendly. hotel is 20 years old and is in desperate need of a refurb and rethink on facilities to retain true 4 star status. We cancelled our stay here and moved to King Jason Apartments (not similar rating and a less impressive location but rooms and service were significantly better than this hotel). Would not recommend this hotel apart from pool and beach location.

We visited this hotel on 30 September to 10 Oct 2009. Whilst I found it clean and friendly, we were dissapointed with first room we were given which was noisy, dinghy and smelled of smoke., It took three offers of three further room viewings before we agreed on the one we accepted. Also whilst the food choice was very extensive, the quality was not (in my opinion) 4*plus.

Its been said before and its true, if you take a look at the hotels along that stretch of road from the Pioneer at one end to the Annabelle at the other the Athena Beach wins hands down!!. It has the largest expanse of beachfront, the largest expanse of garden areas and the most spaced out sunbed arrangements by far. The two most talked about hotels, The Annabelle and the Alexander the "not so great", have no beach area at all, the sunbeds facing the sea are lined up like sardines in a can and have no privacy at all. The Athena Royal beach being the sister hotel enjoys the same sort of amenities.
The food in the restaurant at breakfast is excellent, guys, check out Sofia, a rather plump lady on the "eggs station", she does knockout over-easy's. I think the food at dinner lets it down though, there are plenty of salads to be had but the choice of main courses are some what lack-lustre and the carvery which is available every night, well, lets put it this way, they don't carve much!!. Once these little things get tweaked it will be ok. Therer are still very many restaurants within spitting distance that are competeing for the trade, i know because we stayed B & B, although we opted for the current special offer of a minimum of four nigts for 14euro each, but they supplied a free bottle of wine.
The swimming pool complex is beautiful and spotlessly cleaned each day, the best on the strip.
The staff are, we found, unbelievebly friendly, could not fault them.
Would we stay in the Athena Beach again?, bet your ...................boittom dollar we would.
One word of caution though, with the pound being about as rubbish as it has been for a long time and the rise in prices generaly over there, we were getting just one to one exchange rate, we felt like the poor relations in the resort, we had been warned that things had "gone up", but were totally unprepared for what we found, for example i would say to you, if you wrere thinking of taking say £500 spending money, then make it £750 or if you can, double it........i kid you not!!.
A recent review mentioned mediocre entertainers, and yes, there are one or two suspect pub singers it has to be said, but you know, we walked through the Alexander the "not so great two nights ago, we arrived back today, the 11th. October after a three hour flight delay at Paphos, good old Thomas Cook Airlines.............bless em'. Anyway, what i was going to say was, whilst in the A the G, there was lounge entertainment from a young person playing the piano, not that it was bad playing the the atmospher resembled a mortuary, it was awful, so you see, count yourself lucky you Athena Beachers!!. The Cypria Bay and sister the Cypria Maris (we have stayed at both over the last five years, are now called resorts and are all inclusive which for me personally spoils them, so we would not stay there again. I have had some good reports about the Ledra Beach but have no personal experience, so for myself and my wife there is only one place to stay, and that is without doubt.......................The Athena Beach.
