“Brilliant Hotel wonderful staff”
Reviewed September 28, 2009

We stayed at the Athenae Beach from 12 - 19th September. We had a wonderful time there.  The hotel is large and spacious.  We were on a bed and breakfast basis.  The breakfast was ample with plenty of choice.  The hotel staff were mostly young europeans, and always helpful and smiling.Although quite full there was no problem in getting a sunbed around the pool or in the grounds.  While we were there were was around 7 weddings sometimes 3 in t oneafternoon.  There was no problem with any of the hotel guests being rowdy or loud around the pool and no problem with hen or stag parties.Dont forget to go down  to theb bar between 7pm and 8pm for happy hour, really good value and they make a great  pina colada. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and I would definately go back.  Towels were changed every day, and bedding twice in the week while we were there.  Our room was quite large with balcony and a view overlooking the pool and sea. (Room 3107). I would recommend bed and breakfast as there is plenty of choices to eat locally in the evening.  Our favorite restaurant was Gabors just 2 minutes away, fantastic food atwonderful prices 17.90 euros for 3 courses with complimentary brandy.  Also Sienna, near theTomb of  the Kings was wonderful.

We were one of the many weddings that occured at the hotel during September, probably about 3 a day. However if you are a wedding phobe, don't worry as these were mostly unobtrusive, and like us a lot of the parties took place elsewhere. The hotel looked after us so well and even gave us 2 bottles of champers to celebrate, most welcome!
The hotel itself is truly wonderful, fantastic food, lots of sunbed space, exceptionally clean and a lovely quiet location. Be prepared for the enormous breakfast buffet, with champagne on Sundays (recurring theme to our honeymoon!) It's about a 30 min walk along the coast road to the harbour, well worth stopping off at the Deck Bar for a pina colada and Keo. However, you really have to try The Rib Shack, 5 mins walk away down main road, for the best food in Paphos, as well as the Seagull and Mandra down in the harbour area.
Only drawback to this hotel is the rooms, which my dad likened to a shabby Travelodge. Yes they are clean, air conditioned, all have fridges, balconies, dressing gowns, tea coffee, etc, but are in need of modernisation. Maybe the owners the Constantinou Bros will work on this hotel once they have finished the 5* one down the road??!? (Look out for everything branded with their logo including toilet roll and towels).
The main bonus to this hotel are the superb staff. They are polite, friendly, especially the bar manager Stavros, wedding co-ordinator Jayne and the receptionists. Really make you feel at home!
A fantastic hotel, to which we and many of our guests will be returning when funds allow!

This is a big and busy hotel with numerous weddings taking place every day. This means that their are large groups of young people enjoying hen/stag parties and gathering in groups around the pool area.

We had to change rooms on arrival as we were allocated a very small double room originally and as the hotel was fully booked it took us a little while to sort out a replacement. In the end we ended up with a side seaview room on level one and not the full seaview as we had paid for. The room was satisfactory except for the carpet which was very dirty and was not hoovered every day.

We only ate breakfast but the dining area was very busy and the food choice was not as wide as other 4* hotels we have stayed in and was exactly the same each morning.

This is a family hotel and as mentioned before the pool areas are very busy. For the past two years we have stayed at another Constaninou hotel the 3* Paphian Bay (currently closed for renovation) and felt the Paphian was actually a better all round hotel than the Athena Beach.

A small family group we recently spent a week bed & breakfast at the Athena Beach Hotel Paphos.
When we first arrived there was a mix up with the rooms, after a while this problem was sorted although the room my wife, my daughter and I shared was not available until the afternoon of the next day. We had specifically booked twin rooms with sea views.(Ok if you can look over a six foot hedgerow)
The staff were excellent in resolving our issues, indeed they were most helpful for the rest of our stay.
The hotel itself was clean, with all mod cons, I enjoy a coffee in my room and the facilties for this were great. (Room had TV, SKY, ironing facilities etc) The bathroom was very clean and well stocked. A fridge came as standard also.
The restaurants within the hotel were excellent with a wide variety of options, the food was very good.
The swimming pools were also of an excellent standard, the most amazing thing being that we never felt crowded, this includes the hotel grounds. Whilst their were several hundred people staying at the hotel it was quiet and respectful. We heard no bad languageand to my amazement very few people smoked!
The hotel beach had a nice wild feel to it, with thoughfulness going into the walkways that took you a little past some rocks so that you could enter the sea without falling over them.
We would definatley return as a couple or with family.

I checked out of this hotel this lunchtime! I have stayed in 5 other hotels around Cyprus (ranging from 3-5 *) and this has to be the best i've stayed in. Let's get one thing straight, forget british standard star ratings, the rating in Cyprus aren't the same so it's a waste of time compairing to the UK and i get frustrated with people who do. You are on holiday! Another thing, Cyprus is expensive and it won't be changing soon! Forget those two things and you'll have a great time. The hotel is immaculate, hardly's smells of smoke (believe me that's a amazing feat out here!) and the service fantastic. Hotel price drinks but with waitress service and happy hours.Rooms are clean with great showers and fantastic aircon. The breakfast is plentyful with loads of choice. Wifi is available in rooms at a charge. Safe for in room use 6 euros per week with tea & coffee replenished daily. We had room 170 on the ground floor which faced onto the road, the noise from the road was unnoticeable with the patio door shut. We visited the hotel for a wedding of some of our UK friends and it was a welcoming break for us nevermind the friends! I will definately stay there again.

We stayed here in August and boy was it hot!!! The air con in the hotel is not the best and won't work unless you put the key in the slot so if you have been out for the day you come home to an oven. The hotel and staff are lovely though and the public areas very clean and the food very acceptable considering they are catering for so many. The only downside I would say is that the waiting staff are too keen to empty the dining room at closing time , for example there was a candle lit dinner evening and we were sat outside finishing our bottle of wine when the waitress came along and said "do you mind" and took the candle away! its the same every night and we felt a little rushed. The hotel have a happy hour and you must try the Mojito's -- absolutely divine. Another thing is to go out and watch the sunset from the beach it is a beautiful sight before having a drink in the beach bar before dinner. Another point to mention... don't book any trips through Thomson, I went on the day trip to Cairo and through Thomson the cost was 294 euro, so I went into Paphos and booked the same trip for 209 euro, when the bus picked us up we were all on the same coach and same trip but I had saved a lot of money, by the way if you want to see the pyramids etc , please go on this trip it is superbly organised , every minute of the day was amazing even though I had to get up at 5.30 am and didn't get back until midnight it was truly a day to remember .
I would go back to Athena but maybe at a different time of year as August is far too hot

The photographs in the brochure are misleading in a negative way. The Superior room we had booked was genuinely of a lower standard than a Travelodge or Premier Inn. This important point aside though, the balcony was spacious (beware, lights go out at 10pm). The one thing that made this holiday so enjoyable for my fiancee, daughter and I was the quality of service received from staff throughout the hotel. Many are eastern european, some are cypriot, some from the UK. Having read other reviews about poor service and inferior staff, I can honestly say that what we found was 'when you are respectful to others, they are respectful back'. We booked B&B but benefited from an upgrade to Half Board - the food throughout the week was first-class, a wide selection and friendly waiting staff. The beach is small and too rocky, and each day full of seaweed so be careful if booking a holiday with young children who may wish to swim in the sea. The pools though are good enough. If you book this hotel, upon arrival, prior to taking your luggage to your room, politely ask reception staff if you can view your room first. This will stop upset and disappointment - when you have the keys, you're stuck! A nice hotel, good staff and nice setting as long as you have a sea view room. The 'mountain' view rooms are situated on the rather busy main road - and the mountains are miles away.
