This hotel does have a jekyll and Hyde feel about it that’s for sure. The reception area, bar, restaurants and the pool area are clearly 4 star material. The pool area is massive seems to be very well maintained and there were plenty of sun loungers etc available (although how anyone could lay in that heat is beyond me). The service was in the main top notch and as pointed in other views the staff is mainly eastern European but is well trained and very courteous indeed. The food is of good quality and the choice is vast, you will have few problems finding something for everyone. Location is also nigh on perfect, far enough away from Pafos harbour area for a bit of peace and near enough to visit easily. The bus stops (number 11 or 15) outside the Hotel and it takes 5 minutes to the harbour area.
The hotel falls down in one area though and it the rooms and corridor (long) areas. They are both in need of updating and redecoration. The rooms are fine in terms of size and they do contain everything you could wish for (well bar free wifi). However they feel dated with big old bulk TV’s with fuzzy pictures and slightly threadbare carpets that had seen better days. They could with a lick of paint and a change of furniture. The bathrooms also need updating, our toilet had been cracked and...This hotel does have a jekyll and Hyde feel about it that’s for sure. Overall it still a nice hotel to stay at as lets be honest if your with the kids the pool is the most important area and with regards to the Athena it was rated highly. Oh it also has a waterslide which got the thumbs up, from the adults also (although you need to wait for the guard to disappear to nip on, kids only!).More
