Reviewed May 7, 2009

Just got back from 2 weeks at Athena Beach. Weather was great but had rain last few days although some of it was teatime.

Hotel is very nice and very clean. The pools and gardens make this hotel. Yes the rooms and some of the other areas are dated but hey your not staying in a 5 star. The pools are fab the only downside they are still too cold at this time of year. You can brave it for prob 10 mins but with a 3 year old its not too good. She spent most of the time in the indoor pool which is accessed by the outside pool area. The pool slide kept alot of children entertained.

The breakfast is fantatstic, champagne inc on a Sunday. We ate here a couple of times in the evening and the price is reasonable. Food was good. Only downside for me was the Ledra Restaurant at lunch isn't great but there is a fantastic cafe at the supermarket over the road.
Take lots of money its very expensive for us Brits with the Euro so low.
A pint in the hotel 3.90 but you can get it for 2 outside.
Steaks ranging from 18 to 24 euros.

Nothing much for kids at this hotel although they are starting a childrens club.
The fiesta bar over the road has things to keep them entertained while your having a drink.

Didn't rate any of the restaurants on the complex opp the hotel. They are expensive. The pub is ok.
If you walk towards the harbour on the road you'll come to a triangle of bars/restaurants. We ate at the sunbou and da vincis both ok. The best though is the rib shack on the road just before, same side as hotel, it doubles as an indian and is one of the best i've had!!!

Buses to harbour run every 15 mins and its about 1 euro. You can walk its about 25 mins. you can take the coastal path upto the Alexander but then have to get back to road as they are doing work.

If your taking kids have a look at the Aliathon Village. Its opp this hotel and is fab, we had a walk round.

Hotel was great, it was the best hotel I have ever stayed at for sunbeds. Germans - yes but NO towels. The lovely gardens, superb with flowers gently ran down to the grass and then on to the sand and beach. There was a multitude of sunbeds so you could choose wherever. Just the greatest when you love listening to the sea and love the sun! Pools were cold, sea was cold but I managed both just the twice! No mozzies at that time of the year. Would suggest you need a jacket in the evening. Harbour was great to stroll along many lovely restaurants. We had half board food was great so much to choose from. We had a sea view after a little problem with room 154! Room 1307 was good! Enjoy Cyprus it is wonderful you can use your hairdryer without an adaptor, they speak English and really like us, and they drive on the same side of the road as us. Just enjoy one of the best places abroad.

The hotel staff were all extremely helpful, especially the ladies at the customer service desk. They would always have a cheerful word as you pass the desk and their knowledge added greatly to our holiday experience.

We had adjoining rooms and can't complain about anything. The pool and beach areas were very spacious and we could always find enough sun beds.

The breakfast was the best we have ever had in a hotel. We ate out at night and had some great meals locally. Being October the area was a lot less busy than the summer months, although the weather was perfect.

The only thing I would advise against is hiring a car without checking it thoroughly before paying - the middle seat belt in ours was not connected to anything.

We have just come back from staying at the Athena Beach Hotel for our wedding and it was fab! If you can do get in one of the superior rooms as they seem to be at a much better standard than the other rooms, although the other rooms are fine.
We only had breakfast there- which was good with a big selection, I didn't pick half board after reading some of the other reviews- however some of our party were put on HB by mistake and they said the food was always good.
The pool area is really nice, the staff are really friendly and there are a couple of bars and restaurants in the vacinity so you don't always have to go into town.
The only down sides for us were that they make you pay an extra 700 euros to get married in the grounds- so we changed it at the last minute to Geriskipou- which was much nicer and free. And on the last day we should have been given a late checkout due to the upgraded room but was told that we were not entitled to it because we had recieved the automatic upgrade and not paid for it- a bit rubbish.
But over all a reeally great holiday and a really good hotel! Enjoy!

OK so it might sound a bit cheesy but I really would struggle to find any fault with this hotel.

We went to the Athena Beach Hotel initially for my partners participation in the European Bowling Championships. The accomodation for the players representing the European countries was provided by the Constantinou Brothers hotel and so 4 players from the Isle of Man were selected to attend and represent the Island.

When we reviewed the hotel last year we noticed other reviews from people who had been married there and as we were looking for a beach front location for our own wedding we decided to choose this hotel to be married and combine it with the Bowling.

My own accomodation and that of my husband for the second week was organised by Gala Leisure, and other than a small mishap with our accomodation on our arrival we had no issues with Gala Leisure, in fact I have to admit that Gala Leisure were no way at fault for us not recieving our upgrade to sea view room (part of the wedding package) but there had been a change in the wedding co-ordinator at the hotel and the new one had only been there a few days. Laura the new wedding co-ordinator is fantastic but I will speak more about her later.

Accomodation, we had a sea view room at the end of the hotel 204 which had a direct sea view, although a good walk from reception (only an issue if you have mobility difficulties) it was certainly quieter than the rooms nearer reception. We had a young child aged 2 and there was plenty room for the fold down cot the hotel provided which, by the way was in very good condition and working order and came made up with sheets and blanket etc. the room had kettle, cups, sachets of coffee and tea and sugar and little cartons of uht milk, the room also had a mini bar which you could put your own drinks in that you could get from the supermarket accross the road or in the shop downstairs. Bathroom had a good sized bath and power shower which looked like it had been replaced recently and the other one was still attached and worked but not as powerful, there was also a retractable line just inside the shower curtain which was great for washiing out undies or kiddies tops etc. There was also an Iron and Board in the full size walk in ward robe which also contained complimentary robes and slippers. If you are travelling from the UK you shouldn't need an adapter as we found out when we got there!

Restaurant and Food. the breakfasts and evening meal were both buffet style with excellent choices, Breakfast you could have, bread rolls and jams.conserve, cold meat and plethora of cheeses, yogurts fresh fruit then a hot section with boiled eggs, french toast, scrambled eggs. TOmmlette and fried eggs cooked to order along with pancakes there was sausage and bacon - yes it was deep fried but just try it it actually wasn't as bad as I was expeecting. There was a different theme each evening from Mediterranean to Cypriat and candle light evening. the food was cooked well, fresh and lots of choices you really would have struggled to not find something to eat. There was plenty salad selections, 2 soups to choose from a variety of fresh baked breads and rolls which were fantastic. there was a mains hot area a carvery and grill and a little section of cypriat specialities. Also a chinese corner which would rival any chinese restaurant for quality. Then there was the chilled desserts ie cakes, jelly, creme caramel, then a seperate table with fresh fruit and a chiller with ice cream, wafers and sauces. It was reasonable to drinks about 12euro for a bottle of wine, 1.70 for 750ml water and about 2euro for glass cola.

I haven't even mentioned the staff yet! Kornelia and Tatiana in guest services always had a smile and kind word and went out there way to help us as did the reception staff and porters. In the restaurant they all loved our little girl and couldn't do enough for us, Roxanna took a real shine for our daughter Reeanne as did Reeanne for Roxanna, Andre was very efficient and they all worked really hard. You could almost set your watch by them changing the tables over for breakfast or dinner in the morning and night and it was like clockwork watching them laying out plates, cutlery etc. Danny the head waiter done a fantastic job of managing the staff and the breakfast he organised for the morning after our wedding was spectacular - there was so much we thought about asking my parents down to join us!!!

We had a total of 32 friends and family over in Cyprus for our wedding which was the 2nd March, it was the first big wedding of the year, there had been a smaller wedding the week before (4 people) but ours was the first actually to take place in the hotel grounds. We opted for the gazebo in front of the beach and the bowling greens beside the park. I d idn't see it all decorated until I was walking down with my dad the piper and photographer but it truley was stunning.

Laura the wedding co-ordinator and all the hotel staff done a truley wonderful job of ensuring our special day went to plan, from the decoration of the gazebo to the organisation of the drinks reception on the terrace (thanks to Stavros and staff) and the room that we had for our wedding meal and dances. The chairs had pristine white covers as did the tables and Laura set out our table cards and favours very well along with the decorations we had brought with us.

The only downside was the weather but this was not the hotels fault, there are plenty areas in the lobby for seats and you can get wireless internet connection which you pay for a block of time at the reception. I would go back here to this hotel or any of the sister hotels but probably later in the year.

I got a treatment at the hotel which was an offer they had for a melon and mint facial which had a free 20 minute anti stress back massage or express manicure, I had the massage and my mum had the facial and manicure. it was amazing experiance, very proffessional staff and beutiful rooms. I would recomend this for a treat, it was a bit costly at about 70euros I think but well worth it.

Feel free to contact me if you want to ask anything and if you are going please say hello to all the staff for us!

We were a little cocerned about this hotel as it seemd a little 'formal' for children

however we were pleasently suprised witht he new slides and playgrounds, our children lived there. staff were great as was the kids club.

it is a formal hotel, not many people under 40 anyway!!! plenty to do around pathos though, and the hotel is huge so you can always find something of to do
