“Great Hotel”
Reviewed May 14, 2014

This hotel is extremely well run with professional and attentive staff. The hotel offers a good standard of accommodation, good selection of food and very good service. The interior is very clean but slightly dated and would benefit from a refit but don't let this detract you from going here. The pool area is extensive with plenty of sun loungers and shade and towels are provide. Some guest said that the pools were cold but we found them ok. There are sun loungers scattered around the well kept lawns down to the beach which is not the best and not really suitable for children. There is a pleasant coastal walkway to Paphos harbour which takes between 20 and 40 minutes to reach. Part of the walkway consists of a grit path. We were all inclusive and considered the range and quality of the food and drinks to be very good. We visited the Zephyr restaurant on two occasions and had an exceptionally good meal. The evening entertainment was in the lounge bar and was varied, consisting of singers and dancing acts. Overall a very good value hotel for a quality relaxing break.

Room Tip: From the front of the hotel rooms to the right overlooking the pool / sea offer the best views, the...

High standard, quality hotel with staff providing unfailingly good service. Public spaces airy, spacious, comfortable; lots of little touches makes the place stand out. Bedrooms large comfortable and very clean with fridge & tea & coffee making-you can tell Cyprus was run by the Brits! Its a huge hotel so felt a bit soulless with a restaurant the size of an aircraft hangar. Breakfasts are excellent-almost too much choice-they fry eggs, make omelettes & pancakes etc to order.Plenty of sun beds-but alas the sun failed to shine despite our gruelling 5 hour flight from Newcastle to 'the Med' so we never got wet either in the pool or the sea-though we did get very wet when it absolutely poured with rain. And there's the rub really-Paphos and Cyprus generally in the rain means there's little or nothing to do as most sites/sights are outdoors.Churches are rarely open and a significant number of recommended restaurants/cafes etc in our guide book were 'closed' or derelict or empty of patrons with indifferent staff! In desperation we hired a car and took off to Nicosia for the worst wet day-only to find the 'national' museum of Cyprus closed at 4pm and the staff couldn't wait to get the few bedraggled tourists out of the door quickly enough! Nicosia old town was basically closed, no cafes or restaurants open, no shops open, lots of empty, derelict buildings/businesses.

Great places to visit for history buffs: Kato Paphos archeological park and Tombs of the Kings, Kourion historic site, site of Apollo Hylates temple and the ruined stadium which is as big as the Circus Maximus in Rome and the sanctuary of Aphrodite/Paleopaphos. There's a lovely pebble beach below Kourion with beach bars but they close early! Archaeological musuem in Old Town Paphos is worth a visit plus the old arabic baths which have been restored and house a nice lounge/bar. Great place for food/restaurants Pissouri which is near Paphos on a hill top. Kolossi castle is also worth a visit and if you like cats, the nearby monastery of St Nicholas of The Cats on the Akrotiri peninsula with views over the salt lake. Just ignore the ghastly state of Akrotiri village with its 'curry nights' and 'comedy magician.' The down sides: Cyprus must have been badly affected by the economic problems like Greece: lots of closed, empty, derelict ex-businesses and a massive oversupply of flats and apartments with no-one to buy them and a culture of '9-5' and poor customer service inherited from the UK. We hated the malls, the fake restaurants, the betting shops, the sports bars,TGi Fridays, places selling Tex Mex and anything but Cypriot food. We were shooed out of places by bored staff (with some honourable exceptions) who couldnt see why we'd want to watch a sunset from their terrace over an iced coffee. Best place for authentic Cypriot food in Paphos by a MILE : St Pauls Pillar tavern - we found nowhere else to eat worth a mention. Its cheap and cheerful and a bit eccentric but was the only time we felt like we were abroad and not in some sort of fake 'village' like The Prisoner. NB also recommend great beach bar with goat, rabbits, birds etc round headland away from town which you can do on great circular walk from castle at Paphos (not worth admission) back to town. Birds, wild flowers abound and this little bar has tables & sun beds right on the tiny beach. Would we visit Cyprus again? Not in a hurry. A bit too 'Little Britain' for us-but the archaeological sites made it for us.

Room Tip: Sea view probably worth it-rooms at back of hotel have view of mall and scrubland

Returned for our third holiday at this hotel and it was even better than last time (Oct 2013).
Everything was superb - food, staff, cleanliness..... exactly as others are reporting.
We were somewhat disappointed that having paid for a full sea view we were to have looked out from our 2nd Floor balcony onto the flat roof of the restaurant below but did manage to get moved to the room above when we told reception of our disappointment. Sorry to read that Jack & Fabienne Coupe did not have the same option (we met them at the hotel).
Only tiny flaw was that the mattresses on our beds, whilst clean and comfy, were unfortunately sagging badly and could have done with being replaced but otherwise could not fault the hotel.
We were unlucky to have a few days of mixed weather with some heavy showers but we had booked a trip to Northern Cyprus with the Thomson rep for one of these days. The coach was late arriving at our hotel as someone at an earlier pickup had forgotten their passport which was essential for the trip. Then rain started pouring through the roof of the coach so after stopping for coffee we wated about an hour for a replacement coach - which leaked the same and four seats were very wet with people sitting on towels and their raincoats, It would have taken another hour to get the coach replaced so we continued. The rain did stop for us to have a lovely time in Kyrenia (very pretty harbour) but a shame that some people did suffer on the coach, the explanation being that it does not rain much in Cyprus....mmmm.... but it rained the day before so perhaps all coaches were the same? The guide for the day was excellent!
We plan to go back again soon. After our first visit we were given a 10% discount card for food and drinks so we can use it next time.

Room Tip: Avoid the second floor sea view rooms; ask for 3rd floor or above

Just returned from our 2nd holiday at this hotel, now cant wait to go back. Had superior sea view room, well worth the extra money ,free wifi ,wine and fruit in room ,large comfy beds, superb view. Excellent welcome, with a glass of bubbly, check in so easy. Odile and her staff are so efficient , nothing to much trouble, she organised late check out for 6 o clock, as we had a late flight. Everything around the hotel is so clean , and attention is made to every detail, breakfast is a marvellous spread, it may be a large hotel, but it certainly doesn't feel like it. Special thanks must go to all the breakfast staff who were so friendly every morning, especially to our little granddaughter Lily, she loved it. Very relaxing holiday.

This was our first time in Cyprus, and so fortunate to be in the hands of Constantinou Bros Hotels, who are not only good at what they do; but they carry out their duties with a certain, as it were, pursuit of excellence. This extends to every department, where you'll find it to be "the norm," you know I felt not so much a paying guest here, but forgive me if I say this brought back memories of an old, but very popular TV programme "Fantasy Island," and any one who has memory of that particular show, knows that guests were flown in by special private charter plane or private jet to realise certain fantasies. In this case it's more about enjoying the trip of a lifetime in the form of the very best in hotel comfort, while you explore the delights of this area rich in historical content. Me and my wife only had to travel on a short bus ride for €1.50 each, to view the mosaics discovered there, still so fresh in appearance, they could have been laid yesterday, but we're in effect from the Helenic/Roman period, several thousand years ago!
The delights of the Paphos Harbour, with its numerous boat trips out from Katos, Paphos Harbour. We were on board the "Ocean Flyer" a luxury yacht with an open bar and buffet, where we spent around 5 hours cruising this beautiful Harbour.
The hotel maintains itself worthy of 4 star +, I'd go with that, and I'd sincerely see that "elusive" extra 5th star not long in coming, if the present standard is maintained. We booked our trip of 7 days through a package offered by "Jet 2" this proved to be a wise choice. We'd first learned of the hotel at an over 50's exhibition at Manchester International Conference Centre formerly "G Mex."
Cons Bros have sister Hotels; Royal Athena Beach, very nice but "upmarket" version of the Athena, The Athena Beach being a family hotel. In conclusion I'd say the Athena lives up to its brochure, with pristine sea views, rooms looking out on to palm tree foreground and deliciously landscaped pool area( our Standard room with sea view, was a little disappointing, as we looked out from our 2nd Floor en-suite, bit frustrated to find us looking out onto what seemed to be the flat roof of the restaurant below! Yes we still had our "sea view, but somewhat obscured, this did distract from an otherwise excellent view. Our efforts to swop were met with disappointment as the reception stated the floor above (3rd) were already booked. This didn't paticularly detract from what was otherwise a very pleasant stay, and we look forward to visit Cons., Bros., "Friendly Family 4*(+) in the future

I booked last minute to come here with my grandparents in the first week of sept. Although we booked through seperate operators and they had a superior room I was greeted at reception with a glass of bubbly and led over to where my grandparents were waiting for me. I was then told I was being upgraded for free so that I could be in a room near them and eat with them which was amazing. My room was fantastic and the balcony was huge. The shower was amazing and the beds so comfy. The pool area and beach is to die for and watching all of the weddings was lovely. The staff couldn't do enough for you and remembered that I can't cope without a double esspresso with breakfast :). As a 22 year old the only thing I can say may need improving would be the entertainment apart from the dance show there wasn't a lot more to do which seeing as it is out of the main part of paphos the hotel would benifit from more acts. It's a lovely 20 minute walk to the harbour although for my 80 year old grandma the gravely path was abit hard for her to navigate so we got the bus back for 1 euro and it dropped us right outside the hotel. I'd recommend everyone to come here it's the best hotel I have ever been to and I am a complete hotel snob :)
