“Good for families with young children”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2010

We have just returned from our week long stay at the Almyra and had a relaxing and enjoyable time there. The main thing about the Almyra is that it is a good 4* hotel which has made concessions in order to to be family friendly. As someone who has (in her life before kids) stayed at many 5* hotels around the world I would say that this was a good compromise between adult boutique hotel and kiddie friendly hotel.

Positives -
The adult only pool & spa area - great when your little one is in the creche
The creche - the girls in the creche were lovely and our little one loved his time in there
Food - the food was very good in all the various places (although expensive)
Room - we had a terrace sea view room which was lovely and had enough room for us and our little one.
Service - in general the service was very good
Main pool - lots of beds available in the sun

Negatives -
Room - the aircon wasn't working properly initially but thankfully it was fixed within 24hrs
Surrounding area - the habour and immediate area outside the hotel is not much to look at and rather tacky. If you do want to eat outside the hotel some recommendations are Mantra, Almond Tree and Cavallini
Children over 4 - there isnt much for children over 4/5 to do.
Beach - there isn't really one!
Road - I agree with the last review about if you book a garden room

We decided to stay at this hotel due to recommendations that it is a family hotel and accommodates children. we started of being fairly impressed when we first arrived, the reception area is very clean and contemporary, however this quickly changed when we were shown to our room, we had paid for a garden terrace room and were given a room with a view of the main road. (the main road was extremely noisy and busy day and night). The block we were in was nearest the spa and on a Friday and Saturday night there is a nightclub nearby that plays music very loudly until 4am, the hotel first denied that there was any noise (on our first night) even though i said that i had been kept awake all night, they moved us to the room opposite and on the following Friday had exactly the same problem, after speaking with other guests we understood that they had lots of complaints and were trying to do something about it - not good enough for a 5* expensive hotel. on a health and safety issue one of their large umbrella's from the pool area flew out of the marble stand and narrowly missed my 11 month son, we spoke to the manager on duty and said that it nearly hit our son to which they did remove the umbrella but did not apologise and left all of the other umbrella's around the pool, even though you could see they were not safe and secure, this was the last straw, we then asked to see the general manager - what a waste of time! he was so disinterested and clearly had no idea of customer service, the only good thing about the hotel was the food. if you are used to staying in 5* luxury you will be sorely disappointed!!

Thanos_Hotels, General Manager at Almyra Hotel, responded to this review, May 22, 2010
It is rare that we reply to Almyra guests that share their experience on Trip Advisor, but in this case we feel that we should clarify some things.

The particular guests received the category booked, overlooking the lawn and children’s playground area, next to our small football grass-court. Their room was not “overlooking” the main road, as it’s clearly a level below the road and about 30 meters away. Almyra is located within the town of Paphos, a lively town known for the wide variety of entertainment options it offers. For guests, therefore that do stay in Inland view rooms that do overlook the town of Paphos, noise might be noticeable from time to time, depending on how busy the town is. We would like to point out, that as soon as the guests called to mention the noise, we offered another room to them to sleep in (without even having to move their items), which they declined. For guests who are sensitive to noise we always recommend booking Sea view rooms, to avoid any inconvenience. Regarding the incident around the pool, as our Hotel Manager explained over the thirty minute meeting with the guests, our policy is to keep all umbrellas closed on windy days, because health and safety is important to us. On such a windy day, if umbrellas are opened, they may break and hurt someone. As soon as the incident was mentioned, our maintenance team rechecked all umbrellas and bases to ensure that there was no specific fault around the pool. After all, the umbrellas have been in use for 2 to 3 years. First of all, Health and Safety is always a concern for us at Thanos hotels and the issue was addressed straight away. Furthermore, the Hotel Manager took time to sit with the guests and followed up by informing them of the actions taken.

We understand that we may have not reached the expectations of these guests, but overall Almyra has proven to be a very guest-orientated hotel over the years. We care for individuals, couples and families alike and wanted to clarify the inconsistencies in this review.

I stayed at the Almyra while attending a wedding of a friend that took place on the property in late November. As tourist season had recently ended, we often felt as if we had the resort to ourselves. Be sure and try the Cypriot walnut specialty offered during check-in – it’s unusual, but very tasty. We had booked a terrace sea view room, and I’m glad we did. We were on the third floor, and the view was absolutely breathtaking. Large picture windows looked out on the sea, and we could open the sliding doors and let the sea breeze in. Rooms were nicely appointed, though I truthfully didn’t notice the TV. We were so busy, it didn’t seem necessary. The bathroom had WONDERFUL products that smelled heavenly. Be sure and take them home with you! Our rate included breakfast, and the options were endless. Everything was fresh and tasty – I couldn’t believe the assortment. Eggs, sausages, fresh yogurts, fruits, nuts – absolutely anything you could desire. I’ve never seen a ‘free’ breakfast like that anywhere in the States. We often didn’t need lunch, because breakfast was so filling. The hotel also handled the catering for the wedding dinner, and everything was WONDERFUL. There was a chocolate torte that was out of this world! We also had a rooftop wine reception, and the appetizers served were very tasty. Everything Alymra does, they do well.

The pool area was so relaxing and peaceful. There are semi-private cabanas and plenty of comfortable areas to lounge in. I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t anywhere to sit down by the sea, but the pool overlooks the sea, and the setting is just beautiful.

There were two computers in the lobby available for internet use at no charge. A very nice amenity.

The girls who work in the Toni and Guy salon were so bubbly, friendly, and helpful. They did a great job styling the wedding party.

Everyone we encountered at the hotel was friendly, eager to please, and proud of their country. They were always helpful to provide recommendations, information on the area, and assist with any requests. The service was truly unparalleled, and the wedding weekend went so smoothly, and everything was absolutely lovely.

The hotel is well-located – a short walk from the Paphos Harbor and within walking distance of several restaurants and shops. We liked Café Vienna and the sushi restaurant across from Alymra. For coffee addicted Americans, there is a Starbucks nearby. The old city center is a short bus ride away, and the hotel staff is happy to assist with those directions. We enjoyed the market, but it packs up early Saturday afternoons.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay, made even better by the welcoming staff and their attention to detail. No complaints here.

The service was excellent from the minute we arrived. We were made to feel very welcome.

Our room was modern, light & airy. It was located on the 'road' side of the hotel but we heard no noise and slept peacefully. The room service was very good with fresh towels every day.

The hotel is located within walking distance, 10 mins of Paphos harbour and 5 mins to Bar Street. No taxis required, which is nice. We made use of the hotel's spa facility which is included in the room price. It was very well equipped and very relaxing.

We didn't eat, apart from breakfast, in the hotel so we can't comment on the restaurant as such. The breakfast was good with plenty of choices, hot & cold. There are plenty of restaurants, tavernas and pubs to eat in just outside the hotel.

We liked the location and design of the hotel best, very trendy. Not much to dislike really although I would like to come back at a busier time of year and see if the service is the same.

Overall, a very relaxing short stay at a very nice hotel. Highly recommended.

I stayed at Almyra Hotel last weekend. In my opinion, is not a 5 star hotel!
Room was big enough for two, clean, very large windows and a nice sea view, but furniture was quite old. The TV was old, too.
We had free internet in the room and in the hotel lobby.
We couldn’t sleep during the night. The wind was so strong and made the windows to shake.
The breakfast was delicious. You could choose anything you wanted from Swiss buffet.

Reception and other staff very helpful.
We stayed in a Garden Room ie facing the road, which is about 50 yards away and not too noisy. Room was spacious but the carpet needed replacing. Watch out for the scalding hot water.
The pool area looks out over the sea which is a few yards away across the promenade.
Breakfast OK, we ate out in the evening as several restaurants nearby despite many being closed for the Winter.
Good spa and reasonable gym but take your own Ipod as no TV.
Excellent location as the hotel is about 10 minutes stroll from the Harbour and the restaurant/bar area is across the road.

As advertised, the Almyra is a stylish, contemporary hotel. We visited with our 2 year old boy as the hotel advertises as child friendly and it did not disappoint. Although our son is energetic, we always got a really friendly reception from all staff and other guests. There is also plenty of space for those who are not travelling with kids to enjoy the hotel and amenities. Infact the large spa and associated restuarant is child-free.

We were lucky with the weather after a week of 75 degrees every day in November.

High points; spacious rooms, great healthy options at breakfast; 2 minutes from heart of the tourist area and alternative restaurants, really friendly and helpful staff, a great pastry chef (chocolatier) event in the lobby on Sat/Sun afternoon, small public beach five minutes walk, historical sites in Paphos within walking distance

Minor faults; the childrens play area really is a mud patch under the trees filled with a few plastic garden toys from ToysrUs and shouldn't be promoted by the hotel until improved, the beach in front is a few square metres of sand when tide is out.

Garden side rooms fine. No road noise discernible when aircon is on, hardly noisy when aircon is off.

Perfect for tired parents with babies or toddlers who need a break. Older children may get bored although table tennis table, tennis court and small grass football area may help. Good for adults of all ages with spa facilities.
