“Amazing every time!”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

This was our third family visit (2 adults, 3 small children in a Family Suite) to The Elysium - and once again the hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. There's no doubt it's an expensive place to be, but I really don't begrudge spending the money when everything is perfect.

The staff are extremely friendly, but in a polite and non-imposing way and always made a real fuss of the children. We've been going for the past 3 years, and it's nice to see the same friendly faces each time.

We normally travel in July or August, when the temperature is amazing, but this year we delayed our holiday to October half-term. The only drawbacks to this were shorter days (although sun is still nicely hot, just not scorching!) and the pools were quite chilly. Ordinarily you could literally stay in the pools all day in the summer - but any more than about 10 minutes in October and the cold won!

The choice of restaurants and quality of food is exceptional, and again all the restaurants cater for, and welcome, the children even in the evenings which makes for a relaxing occasion every night.

My husband and I recently stayed in this hotel 2nd NOV 2012, for one week, we had researched all the five star hotels and found this with the most consisitently good reviews. It looked lovely on the photos and so often the reality doesnt match up, however thios hotel was better than th photos even! from the minute we entered we felt relaxed, we arrived at 9pm and were whisked off to the restaurant while our cases were taken for us, the food in the restaurant was superb every night, we had half board and was great value for the quality of the food, there was a different style of food every night and the breakfast was to die for, the staff were friendly but professional, the ambience was relaxing, the roman theme was lovely, our room was a standard inland double and was fine, it was nice and quiet with a view of a market garden, the staff could not have been more helpful from the cleaners to the reception to the porters, the indoor spa was lovely tho I wouild have liked the pool and jacuzzi to be warmer, the outdoor pools were immaculate, and the private beach was idyllic, the loungers were very comfortable there was a nice garden area also, and a pleasant walk along to Paphos harbour along the coast. I would completely reccomend this hotel, its beautiful and convenient for paphos, we had a car but got the bus into town one evening, it was 1 euro and the bus stop is a few muntes walk, and bus was every 15 minutes until midnight! i went on a segway tour whlie i was there which left from the hotel that was great fun and i recommend it, so if you want a nice relaxing superior hotel this is for you.

Room Tip: If you dont want to walk too far ask for a room near the lift as its a long walk to some of the room...

I arrived at the Hotel and was greeted by the doorman, Marios. He showed us to the reception and asked us to sit in reception and offered a welcome drink. We were shown to our room and he explained various things regarding the hotel. All the staff at the hotel are very helpful and courteous. The food in the buffet and a la carte is excellent. Loads of choice for breakfast. Plenty of sunbeds and staff to assist. Overall we have had 10 wonderful days at the hotel. We would have no hesitation in recommending the Elysium to friends and family. A big thank you to all the staff at the Elysium for making our stay so perfect.

Just returned from a weeks holiday at the Elysium, which was both lovely inside, great room with tea/coffee making facilities and public places were great.. Lovely staff who are very obliging and nothing was too much trouble at all. We had a side sea room on the 3rd floor with the side view of the sea as promised, but looking down on reception. I would suggest that you book the room either inward sea view, (over looking pool) or side sea. What we could see for those rooms with a mountain view wasn't really a pleasant outlook. We were half board (which seemed the only choice available) and the food at breakfast and lunch was lovely with great varieties and culinary delights from around the world on their themed nights. The larger than life head chef at breakfast serving at the hot food area was so funny and talked with everyone. Ala seemed to be head waitress and was so nice, and warm it was good to have her greeting you. Multi languages are spoken by majority of the staff. Free wifi is available at reception too, just obtain the code from reception. The area the pool was lovely and plenty of places to sunbathe, with the grass area by the sea also well positioned with loungers on hand. There is also a small beach area with loungers there as well and the pool cafe boys come and take your orders and deliver promptly. We had water and a bowl of fruit on arrival, but I would suggest that the Elysium should give free bottled water as and when you need it, it was something that lots of people who we spoke to talked about as it meant a trip to the main road shops to buy. All in all a beautiful hotel and with great ambience and you never felt there were many staying there at the times we were there and came as a shock to see so many people at breakfast and dinner, where they went after we didn't know lol. Just seemed very chilled and non hurried there. Would definitely go again!!

Room Tip: I would suggest that you book the room either inward sea view, (over looking pool) or side sea. Wha...

We have just returned from a ten night stay at The Elysium Hotel. Having stayed at a number of other 5 star hotels we can honestly say that The Elysium is probably the best overall. In terms of the staff there is simply no comparison with any other hotel that we have stayed in. The staff are superb. Very friendly and extraordinarily helpful. There are a number of little touches in the rooms and in the service that make this hotel special. The rooms are a very good size and nicely decorated and furnished. Exactly what you would expect from a good five star hotel. Overall, the hotel including the gounds (pools, gardens, etc) is stunning and very well maintained. Additionally, you never have to look very far for a member of staff if you require anything.
We booked B&B as we like to try different local restaurants when we are on holiday. The breakfast was very good with a great choice. We ate at two of the on site restaurants whilst we stayed at The Elysium. Both are very good. The King Prawn Tempura at O'Shins Restaurant and The Beef Tenderloin at Bacco are superb dishes.
The location is also excellent. Located right at the coast with it's own private beach it is also not too far from the centre of Paphos. We usually avoid local buses and get taxis. However, the local bus service is very good. Runs every 15 minutes and only takes about 5 minutes and a one euro fare to reach the harbour area. There is also a path from the hotel but this runs along the coast and takes a good half hour plus when walking to the harbour area.
We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone considering a visit to Paphos.

Reviewed November 15, 2012

We recently stayed at the Elysium for 9 nights and overall we were pleased with our stay. I chose this hotel based primarily on the reviews I read on TripAdvisor, so I hope my comments will be equally helpful to others. We are a couple with one small child (aged 4). The hotel is quite child friendly, though I think aspects of it and its location make it better suited to couples on their own or older families.
Accommodation:
We booked a family suite inland view and the rooms were great, very spacious, clean and well appointed. The balconies however, were very disappointing and we didn't use them at all. The main issue was that they were narrow and bounded by a high (chest height on an adult) concrete/solid wall, so there was nothing attractive about sitting out there staring at a wall. The view itself, though inland, was not too bad, you just couldn't see anything if you were seated. More on accommodation later.
Dining:
Breakfast was good, as everyone has said (though didn't quite match up to the standard of the Princess Yaiza in Lanzarote which sets a high standard for a family friendly 5 star hotel). Lunchtime options were very limited, perhaps due to the time of year. As the days are very short in November (pitch dark by 5pm) we didn't want to stray too far from the beach/pool at lunchtime and miss the sunshine hours. There seemed only to be the Mediterraneo, and when we asked the staff they said most other guests probably didn't bother to have lunch so there was no major requirement for other restaurants. Perhaps that is true but we like to have lunch!
The evening buffet didn't suit us really. It starts at 7pm which is just marginally too late for our little one to have to wait to eat. So not very suited to families in that regard, unless your kids can last till then (and in fairness plenty kids seemed to manage). Personally one buffet a day is enough for me and we had that at breakfast. We used room service a fair bit instead, and with the spacious rooms it was good to relax and watch a movie etc. We also ate at Bacho which was ok. We went into Paphos harbour a few times to eat, and I would heartily recommend the Almyra, we had a fantastic meal there and the staff could not have been nicer. The location is also great on the seafront. I was sort of sorry we hadn't stayed there, but the Elysium has a lot going for it too.
Hotel facilities:
One of the reasons we booked the Elysium was the pool, especially the kids pool and the indoor heated pool and we were not disappointed. The kids pool was great, a very decent size and the same shallow depth throughout. Perfect for young children, and lots of sun beds and shade for parents. Really could not fault it. The indoor pool was good too and children were allowed use it between 10 and 6pm, though check before travelling as it varies at different times of the year.

The beach was lovely when we arrived but got mostly washed away during a storm. I don't know if it will be repaired in the winter, all sunbeds were removed, so again, best to check before travelling if the beach is important to you (it was for us and one of the other reasons we chose this hotel). The sea is gorgeous for swimming in (not suitable for children or weak swimmers as it shelves quite steeply).
Location
The walk along the coast to Paphos is the best thing about the location, and for runners it made a great early morning running route. However the main busy road leading to the hotel on the inland side was not at all pleasant and we generally avoided it except to jump on a bus to the harbour. If you like to be nearer to bars and shops and restaurants, the Elysium might not be for you. Though having explored Paphos harbour it is not anything very special and being remote from it proved to be a good point.
The hotel grounds and indeed interior are all very very well kept, clean and attractive.
The staff, especially the pool bar staff and the breakfast staff are all extremely helpful and charming.
The housekeeping is excellent, our rooms were cleaned every day and always left looking pristine.

Niggles
The Wifi situation is frankly, a joke. You can purchase wifi access at a daily rate BUT you have to pay per mobile device. So for our family, with two smartphones, two kindles, one iPad, we would have had to pay 50 EUR a day! Yes there is free wifi in the lobby area but this is inconvenient. Also, due to the browser login for the wifi, kindles are not supported. So no way to download daily newspaper subscriptions (or purchase new books for that matter). This hotel needs to modernise fast with regard to its wifi provision. It gave me the impression of being stuck in the past. Just make wifi free in all rooms and be done with it. It's not a luxury in 2012, it's a basic utility.
Dining
Be aware if you are on half board, as we were, that you have to plan ahead to use your HB at lunchtime and tell the restaurant you want to do so before ordering. You can't decide in the evening to eat out and assume your hotel lunch will be allocated your HB allowance. I thought the hotel would just work it all out based on your bill but this is not the case. Again, it feels like it needs to modernise its systems. when on vacation I really don't want to have to think too hard about this stuff - when the hotel could easily work it out for you in retrospect.
Accommodation
Due to the unpleasant balconies, I asked if we could switch to a Cypriot maisonette as these have outdoor space. I was told by reception staff that this was absolutely not possible because It constitutes a downgrade. I was not asking for a refund of the price difference, but just to switch to a room we would have preferred, and I found the response very inflexible, and lacking in basic customer service.
Reception
A few times we asked for recommendations for places to go for lunch, perhaps a bit of a drive away but worth it, and we were always drawn a map of the same harbour area (which we had done to death by then!). Perhaps there genuinely is nothing else nearby to recommend, but it was a disappointing response.

Overall we had a good holiday, if the niggles, especially the wifi, were addressed it would make it difficult to fault the hotel.

Dear Tripadvisor Member bzzbee,
Thank you for taking some time to post a review on Tripadvisor regarding your recent stay with us.

Constructive guest comments greatly assist us in constantly evaluating the level and quality of our services and facilities and therefore all comments of both positive, as well as negative nature, are being thoroughly looked into.

In regards to the issues mentioned in the review by bzzbee, we would like to comment the following:

Half Board entitlement is traditionally and usually for buffet dinner. In order to cater for guests who wish to dine out of the hotel, the entitlement can be exchanged for lunch. However considering that a great number of guests uses the hotel restuarnts for both lunch and dinner, we simply ask guests to inform us if they are exchanging their Half Board entitlement, in order for the correct charges to be processed.

As the review mentions, Wireless internet access is available with our compliments in the lobby area and through the 3 computers provided in our Multimedia Room. For usage in the rooms, there is a charge, depending on the plan the guests chose. Kindle compatibility has been indeed an issue, one that we are currently looking into with our service provider, even though the most recent kindle devices that have a built in web browser are compatible in the current system.

Thank you

We have just returned from an 8 night stay at Elysium Hotel. We are well travelled and have stayed in some really nice hotels worldwide and would rate Elysium as the best we have stayed at in Europe. The grounds and hotel are quite stunning and the staff are extremely efficient and friendly. Also if you are travelling independently to Cyprus as we did and want a taxi to pick you up at Paphos Airport we would recommend Rocky of Iwantataxicyprus.com We found him to be very efficient and helpful.
