Beautiful hotel and grounds, great breakfast and fantastic staff BUT rooms were very noisy. We had to change rooms twice, firstly because of English yobs in the room next door and then because of dogs at the back of the hotel barking all night!
The 3 rooms we stayed in, on the 4th floor, all had doors linking to the next room. Everything (even normal volume conversation) could be heard from your neighbours.
We were woken up most nights & most mornings by neighbouring guests that returned to their room late at night but still got up very early for breakfast. The rooms have very poor sound proofing.
If you're a heavy sleeper or don't have people staying next door, you'll love it. The hotel is very well maintained, the pool areas and gardens are very well designed and the service is excellent.

However, outdoor pools were cold, I think the chart on the wall stating 27C hadn't been updated for a while.

Drink prices at the hotel bar are roughly the same as bar prices in London. As you would expect, minibar prices at 5 star hotels are extortionate. You pay four times the price for half the quantity compared to any shop on the high street.
Example - 1.5L bottle of water costs £0.50 (CY) in the shops, whereas a 330ml bottle of water costs around £2.20 (CY) from the room's minibar.

Fat Mamas seemed to be the most popular restaurant on the main street. The food was good and the portions were absolutely enormous (or average size for Americans :-) !
There is a good Thai restaurant called Phuket, on a corner on the main street. I wouldn't rate it for atmosphere but the food was superb.

The Elysium is a haven of tranquility and relaxation. From the refreshing welcoming drink to the end of your stay, there is very little to fault this hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful, the facilities are first class, the rooms are spacious and modern, and the whole hotel is as good as any 5 star that we've stayed in, anywhere in the world. Some people consider it expensive, but we would regard it at very reasonable compared to other hotels. Not many other hotels offer a champagne breakfast as standard! The spa facilities are very good, and the restaurants are great. The only slight quibble would be that the Cava restaurant is not quite as good as it thinks it is, although the staff are very attentive.

Best Hotel in the World 2006 said a plaque in the reception this being rated by one of the UK Broadsheets. Having just returned (Nov 07) boy are they spot on. The hotel is certainly lives up to its 5 star rating the staff are excellent and the food is of the highest quality. I would stay here again and can't wait to return.

The Elysium is a fantastic hotel in some respects, really 5 star, but you wonder what happens next.?

The Good-
1) Fantastic breakfasts, quality, choice, layout and happy omlette chef.
2) Bedrooms are great, comfortable, great beds spacious.
3) Bathrooms have Molton Brown products and are perfect.
4) Swimming pool is great to swin in, long and interesting and the pool guys nick the inflatables off the kids so they do not get in your way! The sunbeds are the best I have ever lay on comfortable and great for your back.
5) Reception staff were good in my experience, they do not take any nonsense off people trying it on, well done!

The not so Good-
1) You have to have a mini bar and not a fridge. 5 Star hotel though so fair enough I suppose.
2) Location next to tacky bars and restaurants and a 30 minute walk to the harbour. It is windier on this side of Paphos than the other side with the Athena Beach. Cheesy Wedges at Irish Bar are really nice.
3) Stupidly i thought the groups of Brits would be better behaved at a 5 star hotel., in fact they are worse. If they spend money though they are welcome.

In conclusion this hotel as many great things going for it. It is a wonderful place to relax in style. It needs to make sure that it does not get taken over by groups though

Beware – on one side of the hotel, there is waste land which another hotel group has bought. They have deposited large piles of rubble right across the site, possibly in preparation for development. Our ‘side sea view’ rooms, with a tiny balcony had a view of this rubble and the car park. If you leaned over the balcony you could just about see the sea, in the distance. It was awful. We complained and asked for another room, and were not treated very well by the arrogant manager. My 86 year old father and I had arrived at 8am, and were told we might be able to be moved in the afternoon, so we spent the first day of our holiday, until 5.30pm, at the (freezing) pool, not having unpacked. When we were eventually shown to other rooms, they were facing the same side of the hotel, but on the top floor, so the rubble was not immediately in front of the windows. The next day we moved out of the hotel to the serene Annabelle Hotel, where we were received by very friendly staff.
The general location of the Elysium is awful. It is miles from the town, and surrounded by tacky, dirty cafes and shops. The hotel is very big, but, to be fair it is very clean and modern. The food was good (but unchanging) and the waiting staff pleasant. However, the receptionists and management were almost rude and very conceited making no attempt to be helpful. There was no ambience to the place, and we found the grounds to be clinical, lacking in greenery and the man-made beach was poor. I can not understand how the previous reviewer could state there were nice paths around the hotel for a stroll. At night we felt intimidated to leave the place! I can not be bothered taking the time to write more about this expensive, 5 star hotel which is self important and does not understand customer care. There are so many better hotels in Paphos.
