“Cheap and Cheerful”
Reviewed February 23, 2014

When we booked the Panaretti for 10 days in mid February, we did wonder what we were going to get. It was very cheap (around €20 per night) so we were not expecting the Savoy or the Ritz.
We were a bit concerned after reading some Tripadvisor reviews but overall, we were pleasantly surprised by what we were given.
We got a one bedroom apartment that was roomy but could do with a lick of paint. Our room was clean, everything in the kitchenette worked fine and a bathroom that was adequate. We had a balcony facing the sea which was an added bonus. We also had tv (though just one English channel) as well as a cd/radio stack in the room as well as air conditioning.
Wifi was also available but just in the reception area.
The room was cleaned daily and towels and bedding changed every 4 days although we actually got 3 changes during our 10 day stay.
The pool and sun loungers were clean and well used by residents and we had no complaints on that front.
We were also given a voucher for a 1/2 price evening meal in the restaurant. The food was ok but not the best we had on our holidays. We didn't use the bar as they only had the same channels as in the rooms so if you wanted to watch football, you had to go to an outside bar.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby but they are not all open out of season.
The staff on reception were very pleasant and are to be commended for their very friendly and helpful manner.
Overall, the place needs a revamp as it is looking very tired and things like the towels could do with replacing but we were very happy with our deal. The location is a very nice 20 minute walk from Paphos Harbour along the beach or you can take a €1.5 bus trip into town.
If you are after a cheap place to stay, then the Panaretti is fine but if you want luxury, I suggest you go somewhere else.
One thing that potential visitors to Paphos should be aware of if they are staying in and around Paphos town centre. Taxi drivers at the airport will try to rip you off by charging between €30 and €50 for a 20 minute trip into Paphos. If you don't mind slumming it, there is an hourly bus service into Paphos which charges €1.5 per person

My wife and I have recently returned from a week at PA PAFO, having booked a self-catering package at a fortnight's notice.

No doubt, many years ago when it first opened it deserved it's four star grading from the Cyprus Tourist Organisation and was a very nice place to stay. Now it isn't. Today it's a tired, run-down complex in acute need of many thousands of euros being spent on replacement fixtures, furniture, repairs and serious Spring cleaning. Bob the Builder, Clara the Cleaner and Steptodoulou and Son are all well overdue for a call. One and a half stars would be generous. As a saving grace, all of the staff we came into contact with were friendly and helpful.

Our accommodation? Bearing in mind we only paid £23 a night for our apartment I think the "you get what you pay for" adige applies to a certain degree - in our case we were provided with clean bed linen (changed once during our 7 day stay), plenty of hot water, a working WC, everything in the kitchenette was usable or worked OK and the telly did have one English language channel (BBC World News) amongst the four you could view. On the downside, the heavy duty curtains in the bedroom and the bathroom floor were minging.

So if you're expectations don't run past the basics, and you're prepared to overlook ingrained dirt of many years and furniture that should have gone in the skip years ago, and of course if you get a similar price, this place might be for you - just don't expect the four star grade of accommodation and facilities that are still purported to be available here. If you're planning to go in high season, and are quoted the EURO 102.00 per night rack rate, you should definitely look elsewhere.

PS - If you're wondering why I referred to the resort as PA PAFO, check out the photo of the main illuminated signage, and also the one of the four star table tennis facilities located adjacent to the poolside - says it all really?

Room Tip: Pot luck really - if you only require an apartment for two persons, you could end up with 246, which...

Much of what you read in these reviews is true. We arrived mid-January.
The hotel...Check-in was easy and friendly. We asked for a double and a twin bedded room overlooking the pool and/or the sea and this is exactly what we got. Not too difficult since we were almost the only guests there.

The room...As described in other reviews...old, tired, worn out, threadbare towels. No duvets. We had some broken tiles on floor. At one point during the week we had ants on floor. However maid service was daily but towels and bedding changed only every four days. Useful appliances provided included iron and ironing board, kettle, toaster, microwave, tv, fridge and hairdryer. Cooker consists of two hob rings (no oven).

Food...We had breakfast only and it was OK. Due to guests being few we had breakfast cooked to order. Other than the full English there were some bowls of yogurt, plates of meat and cheese, jars of jam and a cake. However what wasn't eaten on the day was simply laid out again the next. There was no fresh fruit. To drink there was the usual tea. coffee and fruit juices but the coffee and water was often only luke warm and no microwave to heat anything up. The reason for this seems to be down to the staff. Some are more efficient than others. One day we arrived for breakfast at 8am (it starts at 7.30) to find no hot coffee or hot water. The fresh juice machine was still off. The bread basket was empty and when staff finally arrived we asked for bread and we were given a loaf of brown. We asked for white and were told no... but then the chef overheard us and produced a sliced white loaf.

There are about a dozen cats roaming around the hotel and not only do they get into the restaurant, some staff members actually encourage them in by offering them food. We are ok with cats but they are not for everyone.

We did not suffer from noise problems of an sort although the hotel is situated on a main tourist route into paphos town. As others have mentioned the curtains are thin and do let in the light although our had linings on a separate track.

Overall the experience was tolerable for the week that we were there since a holiday is about more than just the hotel and you can't expect much for b&b at £10 per night. This said I would have preferred to pay a bit more for a better place.

2 weeks in this place was enough- due to bad weather in january.
The hotelmanager did what he could trying to make up for terrible attitude from a few of the staffmembers. I was told that the staff was going to be replaced soon, I really hope so- and that is the reason I gave the hotel 3 instead of 2 star. It is not nice to be treated with neglect and hostility, which I never have experienced.
The rooms/apartment varies ; some are more "fresh" than others- which have old and dirty looking
furniture /curtains etc. The maintainance should have been better.
But you have all you need for self-catering- which I strongly will advice; the restaurants food was clearly "budget" and not good- apart for a couple of times.
The cleaning was every day, and o.k.
Beds o.k, T.v on every room, and heating- which was good in the cold nights.
Close to the sea and some 15minutes walking to Phaphos town. Nice and quiet.
Bare in mind this is a "budget-resort", cheap and simple. You get what you pay for.

Room Tip: The best rooms are the ones close to the road, they have sun all day.' 2 other blocks have eith...

26th to 31st December 2013 half board. We read the reviews before we went but weren't expecting it to be as bad as it was. The bathroom was filthy and the towels threadbare, the furniture badly worn and soiled and curtains falling apart. The food was adequate but the menu choices were poor and varied very little.

The day the sheets were changed my white night shirt disappeared but the hotel were unable to locate it.

We would not recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to holiday in the lovely resort of Paphos

Stayed here with my mum in November 2012, not a nice place, very bad electrical sockets, dirty bathroom, disgusting armchair in the corner, looked like it hadn't been cleaned for 10 years. We come to Cyprus every year, my mum comes with her partner at least twice with me once. We picked here as we always out to eat in restaurants and like a bigish self catering apartment, the size was the only thing good and we spent most of our holiday out walking and shopping and spending time with friends in Local Bars. The state of the room put us off the bar and pool area, we only returned to get showered and changed on a evening and then to sleep.
