Here is yet another ancient site just a few miles away from Paphos. It is very much work in progress and we saw staff piecing together a pot which had been broken many years. Rough walking but reasonable entry fee and largely unsupervised.

When we went to the Monastery we also went into the Museum. On display were many interesting religious artefacts - bibles, illustrated manuscripts, Icons, maps, etc

Had no idea the ruins were there as it is not advertised. A nice surprise when we got there. 615 bus from coral bay takes you there. Takes about half an hour. Beautiful views.

The Museum is across the street from Agios Georgios Monastery, situated in a very beautiful natural landscape. The entrance fee is 1.7 EUR and you receive a brochure (be sure you read it if you want to understand something about the place). Here you can see the ruins of an ancient community and some beautiful and preserved mosaics from a basilica.

Not far from Paphos, Agios Georgios can quickly and easily be reached by car, and when you arrive there is free parking. The bay offers a pleasant view, a small harbour with only a couple of boats adds to the scene. The archaeological site is next to the car park and so is the church.
Even if you aren’t generally attracted to the ancient ruins, the area is still worth a visit, it is not overrun with tourists and the church is very beautiful
