“A few foundation rocks”
Reviewed January 5, 2014

Nothing really to see here, only a few rocks where were the ancient houses, and that's it; there are no information panels at all. The place is next to Coral Bay Beach.

“Not much to see outside but great information boards & exhibits”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

Whilst there isn't much to see, other than remains of the old walls, it's an interesting & important place, given its historical significance. The 1st wall offered protection from the land & the 2nd protection from the sea. The settlement was called, "Maa" & "Palaeokastro" means, 'the old castle'. The 1st settlers were the Mycenaean Greeks, back in 1200BC. This is one of the core settlements from where began the spread of the Greek culture of Cyprus.
It seems to have been chosen for the natural harbours, sheltered bays & dominant views over the ocean. It's life-span was pretty short & it's one of the places, whose demise is blamed on the raids of the 'Sea People' (Bronze Age pirates / invaders).
The museum is fascinating & informative, with maps, showing trade routes & materials, the Cypro-Minoan writing, explanations of life back then & a few exhibits. It's worth a visit if you're into the history & ancient cultures.

“Great Archaeological Site”
Reviewed June 26, 2013

Maa-Paleokastro can be found at the far end of Coral Bay just beyond Thalassa Boutique Hotel and Spa. These are the ruins of an early Bronze Age settlement which was fortified.. The area has been fenced off as excavation work continues from time to time. There's also a small museum exhibiting local finds. It's well worth a visit.

“Bad Organisation”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

Went to this site and was charged full admission even though the museum is closed, and doesn't look like opening soon, and no information about the site other than two wooden signs. One directing you to the museum and the other pointing to " Excavated Remains". Ended up googling for info on this site. Poor show, it should have much higher profile. People just don't know it is there.

“ancient archaeology”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

excavated ruins on a headland, large site with lovely views and a small information centre. Cheap to get in, as is typical in Cyprus and on the bus route from Paphos harbour to Coral Bay. (if you buy a day ticket, you can get on and off the bus as much as you like! )
