“Fantastic restaurant”
Reviewed May 4, 2010

Stumbled across this whilst staying at the Almyra (opposite), Amazing restaurant, fantastic fresh food and friendly staff. It's used by locals which is always a good sign. Ignore the cheesy name and green neon sign and go for the Cyprus Meze. The best cypriot food ever

“Very Good Food”
Reviewed December 5, 2009

We had their mezzes mixed and fish, both were exelent, dishes just kept appearing, all were fresh tasting nothing was stale. There also seemed to be a good number of locals using the place. The staff were attentitive without being over zealous and in your face.
We ate there our first night and Happy Island became the Cyprus food standard yardstick. Prices for mezzes 17/19 euros.

“Excellent Service!”
Reviewed October 7, 2009

This Restaurant is always a favorite of ours when we are in Paphos, you can rely on good food and excellent service from Stelios, family and staff.
The Specials are something to look out for, especially Suckling Pig on a Thursday it really is delicious! The Meze is also very good, as is one of my favourites Sword Fish! But there is a wide variety on the Menu suiting most tastes. They also have a good Wine List with some very good local Wines. Also, usually on the house we have Fresh fruit, Brandy and Orange Liquers. The Happy Island certainly is worth a visit.

“Excellent food and hospitality”
Reviewed August 3, 2009

My wife and I spent a fortnight in Paphos earlier this year. We arrived late on Saturday and noticed Happy Island was busy with local Cypriots on Sunday for lunch. We thought that was a good sign and went that evening. It was good! The food is excellent - fresh local ingredients, well cooked and presented, and varied menu with a bias to Cypriot dishes and specialities. The wine list is mainly Cypriot wines, but the staff recommendations from that list were good and in no instance were we disappointed with the choice of wine. Portions are large! The staff are welcoming and friendly without being intrusive. The owner/manager seems to be there all the time, along with family members. The place is serving both tourists and residents but tourists are sincerely welcomed and made to feel at home. All staff speak English and some speak it well.

We tried a number of places, hoping to do better. We did not find anywhere that even approached the quality and ambiance of Happy Island, and in other places we felt we were being patronised as easy tourist customers. We decided to go back again and again to Happy Island and in the end could see no point trying to find somewhere better.

The glass of complementary orange liqueur for the lady and brandy for the gentleman, together with a couple of fresh sliced and peeled local oranges was a perfect ending to each meal - both a nice touch but also an expression of the generous spirit of the place.

Don't be put off by the rather bright frontage and (to English eyes possibly rather naff) name. Happy Island is excellent and worth making a special journey. It is not posh but it is sincere and Cypriot-stylish and the food and gentle hospitality are magnificent. We think we might go back to Cyprus next year and one reason would be to visit Happy Island again. If this review seems a bit over the top it is because we really enjoyed going there and thought it a great find that others should know about.
