We travelled to cyprus in may looking forward to a great time ,we flew with cyprus airways and found the service and staff very good .when we arrived at the airport we had hired a car with economy car rentals in larnaka again the service and staff were very good as was the car,(little tip) concentrate on where you are going as finding the rental place at the end of your stay can be fun.On arrival to the villa we found the villa dirty but went out and had something to eat this is ware everything started to go wrong, the cost of food and drink in the bars and resturants we ate in was just theft to a point where reading the local paper even one of the cypriot MP s commented that the bar and resturants are commiting finacial suicide, For instance a large bacardi and coke was 11 euro,s and in the supermarket you could buy a bottle for 13 euro, a steak and chips was 23 euro, this was not fresh but frozen which it stated on the menu.
As for the amount of building work thats going on beruit comes to mind and they do like to dig a hole and have no cares about the resturant and bar owners,
now back to the villa,
we stayed at the ILLIADAS VILLAS like I said before the villa was dirty the water pressure was non existant it was so bad just cleaning your teeth would take ages we ended up showering at the golf club to get clean so please do yourselves a favour and avoid like the plague( I wanted to complain on holiday rentals site but they have taken thier villas off that site) I could go on but I wont. The only thing we found resonable was the golf 106 euro for two people including a buggy,
and here,sa few prices for some guidlines.
pot of tea £2.00----£4.50
coffiee about the same
english breakfast £ 2.50---£8.00
evening meal 3 corse £ 30-------£50
these are the prices we payed and you might be able to find cheaper if you hunt around or go off the beaten track.
I belive that the bar and resturant owners need to re-ivaluate what they are charging or people will start going to other countries, this also goes for the suppermarkets and historic sites everything is dear and it is not just the euro but greed thatis fuelling this
