“Combination of tradition and luxury”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

This beautiful hamam or Turkish Bath in the heart of the old walled city of Nicosia( Lefkosa) is simply magnificent after its recent restoration. It is a Turkish bath of dreams, with cool white marble rooms lit by star shaped skylights, multiple treatment and relaxation rooms , well away from the city hustle and bustle, like stepping back to leisurely times. It is easy to miss, as the buildingisnowwellbelowmodern road surface, so the entrance is down a flight of stone stairs leading downtown a lovely arched doorway. Once inside, further steps lead to the entrance, and the helpful staff who explain the treatments available. There are scheduled times former only, women only whilst most afternoons are designated mixed " full touristic" , that is , for visitors and couples. There are several treatments on offer, from traditional scrub and massage to Swedish and aromatherapy massage, and various combinations, all at very modest cost compared to a modern spa.A traditional Turkish scrub and massage is highly rejuvenating, leaving you feeling refreshed, relaxed, with incredibly clean and smooth skin, and all aches and pains miraculously gone, all for the sum of approximately £30, and lasting about 90 mins, though you can relax for as long as you like. There are comfortable changing areas as you enter, and the staff gently guide you through the course of the treatment

“A wonderful way to unwind, just don't be self conscious!”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

We booked in to have a Ritual Massage as a couple via email after finding out that the Buyuk Hamam had reopened.
When we arrived we were treated incredibly well, and were shown where to get changed and put away our things. There was a little bit of confusion, as we didn't know where to go next, but after a cup of tea, we were directed into the Hamam to sit in our towels in one of the hot side rooms and allow our muscles to heat up and relax. After this, we were called to lay on the large massage stone in the Hamam itself and had a very thorough and relaxing treatment that involved scrubbing, massage and soaking in foam.
Because we had been unsure what to expect, both my partner and I felt a little self conscious about laying on the stone with only the bare minimum of cover, but let go of it, relax, and enjoy one of the best massages you'll ever have. The massage itself was quiet gentle, but firm enough to release the tension and pain that had been caused by several days walking. The staff are experienced, friendly and kind.
After the treatment, we relaxed in the cool room with tea and water until we were ready to leave. All the staff treated us with respect and courtesy and made our experience a very special one, as we had told them we were getting married in two days time. They made it a real treat. We would definitely come back again!
