“Decent enough for the money”
Reviewed May 29, 2010

Booked a cheap holiday via HolidaysDirect (Co-op) - spent 3 weeks at Kapetanios on B&B. Room very clean and comfortable, but needs a bit of updating - nothing major. Breakfast was adequate but repetitious - same fruit(tinned peaches) every day, same ham and cheese. The eggs were either boiled(daily) and fried or scrambled (alternate days). Ate a la carte one night - that was enough. Crab salad was actually crab sticks, and vegetables were cooked from frozen - disappointing. Staff very pleasant and hard working. Overall decent value.

My second visit to the Kapetanios. It is in a good location, just 100 metres from the narrow beach. The seafront has a good path which goes for miles in both directions. The old town and port are only 15 to 20 minutes walk. Only a short distance away is a beautiful park, ideal for children with its small zoo. Nearby are all types of shops and bars. My favourite is 'Terrys Place' just 60 metres from the hotel.

The hotel's staff are friendly and pleasant and service is first class.

There is entertainment at some of the evening meals, and as with the majority of places, it is the same each week. You can eat your meal if it is not for you, or join in, or listen, and dance later. The owner Andreas is one of the first to dance when the music starts.
The meals have been improved by the new chef since my last visit, There is always a good selection and plenty to eat. There are people from many countries in the hotel and it is difficult to provide menus for all tastes. I eat white meat, chicken breast and fish, but these are not always available. But if you want something different, talk to the Maitre D' YanniI, he will be happy to arrange an alternative meal.

The fitness gym is small but not over used, so the range of equipment is sufficient for a good workout. Friendly advice is on hand from Liene and Helen if needed.
Plenty of room outside next to the well maintained pool, and it is ideal to drop into to splash about and cool down.
The bedrooms are a little dated but are cleaned and the beds made up daily by the smiling staff.
Will I go back again, yes, I have booked another 4 weeks for October/November.

We returned to the UK on 16 March after spending 3 weeks at the Kapetanios. We had booked 2 weeks on half board and a third on B & B. We have to say that we were glad to eat out during our last week. The food was edible but monotonous. The quality and temperature of the evening meal declined during the first two weeks. The "entertainment" was poor. Like the menu, the same programme was repeated weekly. There was a dreadful smell of drains in our bathroom but although we reported this to reception, nothing was done to get to the root of the problem. The waiting staff were pleasant but tired and overworked. The clientele comprised mainly Russians, Germans, Poles, Greeks and Brits.
Having been negative, we have to say that the location of the hotel is within easy walking distance of the seafront and the old town which has some character. The tourist area in Limassol is just that - high-rise hotels, apartments, bars, restaurants, shops and offices - OK if you go on holiday to sit around your hotel pool during the day and club/drink at night. Don't go to Limassol for the beach either - it's an intermittent narrow strip of dark grey sand. The esplanade, however, provides good level walking for miles along the seashore. The main dual carriageway through Limassol is about 70 mtrs from the hotel and can be noisy at night - especially boy racers on high-powered motorcycles doing wheelies on the straight stretch of road.
Do visit the excellent Tourist Office for advice on where to go to escape Limassol. Beware, however, you will need to hire a car to go exploring. Unfortunately we had expected to be able to use local buses - big mistake. For example it cost 20 Euros for 2 of us to travel to Larnaca on an infrequent service.
This was our impression of the hotel, resort and amenities in Feb/March - an impression shared by fellow Brits we spoke to whilst there. However, we did speak to a couple who had been returning to this hotel for many years. Obviously they saw plus points which eluded us! We certainly would not recommend our friends to stay there unless they were on a B & B basis and hired a car.

Great hotel with friendly staff . Nice beaches and good location away from the tourist area but only a short walk to the beach. Not a big hotel so no queing up for meals and always plenty of room around the pool area. The staff are great and helpfull but please note Nicos the barman no longer works there and is a great shame.

I stayed here with my mum for a pretty blissful week in April and left with only warm, fond and happy thoughts of the Kapetanios. I do think that the appeal of this hotel may be lost on certain persons- for example those accustomed to holidaying in slick, bland, predictable, modern chain hotels which all look drearily similar and you know exactly what you're gonna get. The Kapetanios is not really like that - hooray! For those who appreciate somewhere a bit more personal, ambient and friendly, I think you will like, I mean love, this place.

It's location is enviable. A stone's throw (literally! I tried it) away from the ocean and practically on Makarios Ave, where there are shops galore. About 20 mins stroll from the 'old' town. Further away from the 'tourist' area, so get the bus or drive up; unless you enjoy walking, and it IS a darn pleasant walk, of about an hour or so.

The rooms are in my opinion quite antiquated, with old-fashioned furnishings and fixtures. I loved it. Who wants everything to be new? They provide TV's with international channels, and a small fridge handy for storing water etc in. Beds were comfy. Our balcony had a side sea view which also looked over the residential streets surrounding the Kapetanios. Sitting on this balcony in the early evening having a pre-dinner glass of Thisbe was too relaxing for words.

The food was hearty, nutritious, delicious and basically no-nonsense.Considering that it is dirt cheap to stay here (well, it was for us anyway, we got a ridiculously cheap deal with Olympic), the guests get very well fed indeed. Expect bacon, eggs, cheeses, toast, cereal, tinned peaches& yoghurt for brekkie, and chicken, various meats, soft oiled roast spuds, rice, salads, veg, occasional pasta dishes, and simple desserts at dinner time. The Cypriot Night on Friday gives guests the chance to sample some really tasty traditional recipes such as pastichio and kleftiko. Yum! And...the dreaded chip never once made an appearance in the week that we were there. Brilliant. Do NOT expect a staggering amount of variety, or gourmet fare. This is a small, unpretentious family run establishment and the food reflects that.

The amenities such as the pool, gym, bar, terrace, etc, were always spotlessly, gleamingly clean and a cozy, laid-back atmosphere generally prevailed. We did not use the indoor pool but it looked good. The outdoor pool was very refreshing. There was one occasion where some local kids were being quite boisterous, so I told them off and they quietened down! Staff did not intervene however, which they probably should have.

The hotel staff were very cordial to us and seemed quite keen to make sure our stay was as enjoyable as possible. Beware ladies who are not familiar with Cypriot men: they are generally very self-confident and 'friendly' and have a slightly alarming tendency to become rather suggestive 5 minutes after introducing themselves. As such, there is the usual cocky barman and amorous receptionist insitu mooning over the female guests. It is quite amusing (to me anyway!), and should all be taken with that proverbial pinch of salt.

Alas Limassol, although still charming and beautiful of course, is something of a shadow of its' former self and for any travelers returning to the town after several years, prepare for a wee shock. It is now an extremely quiet city compared to, say, 10 years ago, and the night-life is decidedly low-key. There are a few bars in the tourist area but they are very thin on the ground. Of course, this is not necessarily a bad thing for those seeking a quieter trip. Having said that...venture into the old town into one of the many tavernas for a proper Cypriot night out. Have a meze and listen to the bouzouki all night long and maybe get up and dance. Most tavernas in the old town are not aimed at tourists so they are the real deal.

But as for the Kapetanios...I totally, totally loved this hotel. Don't pass it by!

I booked the holiday through olimpic holidays, flew from Belfast with eurocypria and stayed at the hotel in april. It was brilliant! the staff, especially nicos (the very friendly barman) were friendly and the food was very good (although it did get a bit repetitive) and the rooms were spotless and airy. We got an upgrade to the execuative building across the road and it was fantastic. it is 2 miniutes to the beach which isn't that nice but usually deserted. The kapentanios is bril! GO THERE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
