My wife and I have just returned from 14 night all inclusive stay at the Atlantica Bay(our 17th visit)Didnt think it could improve much but it has.As usual the hotel, public and private areas are well maintained and spotlessly clean. You have to go there to experience the genuine warmth of your welcome and standard of service which is far better than many so called 5 star resorts. The pool service and the bars in general were exceptional (i have never refused so many drinks in my life)Food quality and choice are excellent, from the buffet,A la Carte,Grill, and now the twice weekly Barbacue at the beach.
Thomson reps and entertainement team were good and worked hard to keep us occupied, although there is still a concept issue with "couples"..If anyone from Thomson managemant reads this please take note we do not want to holiday in a morgue like atmosphere where yor staff are not allowed too much promotion of the activities on offer. The only other issue is the quality of the visiting artists(with a couple of exceptions) which has detiorated since no longer being a "Gold" hotel.
Went on the VIP cat cruise and had excellent day.
It goes without saying that we will be returning in the near future

Thank you for your comments and your kind words.

We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and that we succeeded to surpass your expectations. The concept of a Couples hotel is a relaxed environment with a choice to “opt in” the activities on offer. All activities are detailed on the Thomson information board including announcements around the pool area. However, it is done with a more subtle approach in keeping with the Couples concept.

Once again we thank you for your comments and look forward to welcoming you once again for your 18th visit.

Just returned from 14 days holiday which was cut short a little by my mum being admitted to hospital for 6 days - I can honestly say that the staff were amazing from taxi in the morning to hospital and Maria were a star knowing that i was at night on my own while mum was in hospital....when mum was discharged Maria could not have done anymore for us and even arranged to have a meeting with the head chef due to mums condition...room service if she needed and the restaurant head waiter was great .. a la carte is definitely well worth going to when ordering wine go for the moscofilero white - have tried to see if we can get it back home but no joy yet...we were upgraded on arrival and can honestly say was lovely to be able to sunbath in privacy in room 101...big thanks to all the staff support and the 4 days we had of the holiday was exceptional xxx

Room Tip: go for the junior suites and have own private sun terrace so no need to get up early for sunloungers...

Arrived here on 03/07/13 and were welcomed with a handshake from the hotel manager. He then took us into the lobby and he poured us a glass of champagne. He went through out welcome pack and made it clear that if we needed anything they would do there very best to please us. Our luggage was taken to our rooms. The rooms are lovely, massive firm bed with two thick pillows each. Great nights sleep made very comfortable by the air con and large brandys ,,!! Staff are so polite and attentive, great choice of food too. Free wifi is so useful too. Best place we've stayed at already !!! We would recommend this place, WELL DONE to all at the hotel :-))))))

We’ve been home for exactly a week and can look back at our two week holiday at the Atlantica Bay with an honest eye! I have come to the sad conclusion that as I grow older I am becoming more critical, am very conscious of receiving value for money and getting what I want from a holiday. With that in mind, here’s what I thought of this package holiday, remembering that opinions are subjective.

The Flights
We were delayed on the outward flight by over two hours – we were herded and kept at Gate 300 in Manchester airport – the poor staff were getting some jip, which was NOT needed! I’d rather fly on a safe plane than not! Both aircrafts were comfy enough and on both flights the staff were very courteous and polite – Thomson have made improvements in staff attitudes I think. We both felt sorry for the children who became upset – it’s a shame there isn’t a play area on planes for young ones, as they naturally need space and to be able to move about! It was cold on both planes so take something warm to put on.

The Atlantica Bay is our 6th stay at an Atlantica Resort – including one Sensatori, so before we arrived we more or less knew the standards to expect, plus we had read the latest Trip Advisor reviews. This hotel is good and in some areas very good, but not exceptional.

The Restaurant
The restaurant is attractively decorated, the seats are comfortable and the air-conditioning is good. The choice of food is good, well-cooked and presented. There is a show-cooking area and usually there was freshly cooked meat available too. The chef does not overstretch the options so what’s available is of a good standard and mostly quality food is used. The lunches in the restaurant were decent also; the salads were a bit repetitive but were freshly prepared and not all smothered in dressings, as you could add your own. Breakfasts were good also – at the show-cooking stand omelettes were made daily to your personal request, plus crepes etc on other days. The coffee-machines broke down on a regular basis, so we were pleased we had hot drink facilities in our room. The staff were efficient, professional and polite, but need to learn to smile a bit more – after-all clients are on holiday!!!!! Drinks service, especially at lunchtime was a bit hit and miss as to speed, and we even received a ‘Tut’ for ordering another bottle of wine for our party of four!!!!

Note to hotel staff: Do not judge until you have walked two weeks in my holiday flip-flops!

The outside eating terrace is pleasant enough, however beware of cracks in the chair leg-joints, as we witnessed one guest almost thrown to the floor due to the chair leg snapping off. The ramp from the outside terrace to the restaurant door should be updated as it is a temporary one. Also the screen as you enter the restaurant from the terrace, obscures your vision and I’m surprised there aren’t more collisions, as you can’t see if someone is approaching from the other side! I was very wary of that area, especially when carrying hot food.

On this occasion we didn’t try the À La Carte – but all looked good!

The Pool Area
Both pools are well maintained on the whole; the pool supervisor starts work at 6 and is quite thorough. The sun-bathing areas are cleaned daily but not as meticulously as they could be! The sun-loungers can’t be cleaned well, because clients’ towels are there from early morning, which I understand. I’m not sure if the hotel was full when we were there but the management did add new parasols so there should be enough loungers for the number of guests. Personally I thought the loungers were uncomfortable and prefer the padded kind. The pool drinks service staff were outstanding – we never had to wait for a drink, special thanks to Ellie and Mate, so polite and unobtrusive, but with a smile.

The water in both pools was very clean and swimming was an enjoyable experience, which we both prefer to the beach.

The only downside for me was the constant traffic noise, which if you go down to the beach area, is drowned out by the pleasant sound of the sea. This area is very picturesque and swimming in the sea was great. The grassed area is an enjoyable place to sunbathe – especially due to the breeze, plus the friendly lizards! The beach bar was okay, however drinks service was not as efficient as at the pool. Also the service at the Snack Bar was very slow! The choices for lunch were okay but we preferred the restaurant food, as there were healthier options available.

Our room
We had opted for a superior room with a sea-view – we ended up in room 347 – which overlooked the drinks terrace below. I was very pleased with our room – loads of storage space, excellent comfy beds, good bathroom (might have been cleaned better on a couple of occasions,) wide choice of TV programmes, coffee/tea facilities, plenty of sockets, electricity left on all day - which is a first, brill big balcony and fridge. All in all quite comfy! Was able to charge phones, Kindles etc at anytime. However, the air-conditioner was not efficient enough.

We were supposed to have an expresso machine in our room, and after a week, one still didn’t materialise – hotel management did not respond to our request for one until the 2nd time of asking. Then we requested more coffee pods, where upon we learned we had to pay for them at 1.50 euros each!!! We weren’t aware of this and as we only had the machine for part of our stay, approached the Thomson rep Matt – he got us free pods – and he responded straight away!! ;-) Thanks to Matt.

Also outside the bedrooms, the corridors are carpeted which lowered night noise etc.

My only gripe is that when sitting on the balcony the road noise is constantly (starts as early as 5.30) in the background and the sea-view is not a beach/sea view as it is obscured by buildings. But you can see the boats approaching the port of Limassol, in the distance.

The suites with the Jacuzzi’s on the balcony looked very inviting – wouldn’t have minded one of those, if we could afford it.

Entertainment
We all enjoyed the entertainment – not as good as the teams at the Sensatori or the Yaramar in Fuengirola last year, but still very enjoyable. I think Thomson might like to reconsider ‘Oh What A Night,’ as regulars must have seen that show on numerous occasions – it takes a good team to carry it off – that was the worst night’s entertainment however of the 14 nights. Our holiday partners stayed at the hotel last September and met up with returning guests also, so regulars might appreciate a change of entertainment.

The two Thomson girls were entertaining and very pleasant.

The resident duo ‘Intermission’ were different! We all liked them because there is an ethereal quality to the singer’s voice – anyone who can sing ‘Wuthering Heights’ and nail it, deserves recognition. The quality of the music, especially the guitar playing was very good. They weren’t to everybody’s taste it seems but we thought their musicality shone through. We appreciated their quirkiness in this age of ‘thumpy’ music and rap, which of course has its place too.

The cocktail receptions on the terrace below us on Tuesday nights looked good fun – one had a ‘Black & White’ Theme.

The drinks service in the evenings was excellent – we befriended Christina and she took care of us very well. Can’t fault our nightly soirees, only just remember those chair-leg checks!!! Choice of drinks were repetitive on All-Inclusive but as a whole the AI package is worth the money, especially drinks wise. You start to pay for drinks after midnight and boy you can tell the difference in strength, but we accept that.

One night we went for a meal in Limassol’s old town – which turned out to be quite expensive and the midges dive-bombed us. We travelled in by taxi 20 euros each way with tip. We were lectured about the downfall of Greece/Cyprus etc by our taxi-driver on the way back, which turned out to be mystifying, if not sad!!!!!

Mosquitos
During the 1st week of our holiday the weather was breezy & dry, but it became humid during the 2nd week and that’s when we were all bitten! Therefore insect repellent and soother are essential items if you are predisposed to bites!

The Hotel’s amenities
• We could swop our towels in the Spa which is easily achieved – we didn’t use the spa or the gym but all looked good!
• The shop stocks most items, not cheap but very convenient.
• The terrace bar service is good – cocktails are served with popcorn and nuts which is very sociable – some of the seating is comfy and is very ‘À l’Atlantica’ stylie.
• Lobby is a charming area with plenty of comfy seating.

Location:
The immediate surrounding area is secluded but we knew that before we went … there are supermarkets and an Irish pub down the road to the left. It is quite a long way into Limassol itself but there are plenty of taxis and buses available.

All in all we had a good holiday and from our past experience, I would rate this Atlantica second to the Imperial Palace in Rhodes – it is definitely superior to the Golden Beach in Paphos – it isn’t really comparable to the Sensatori, which offers more choices food-wise!

I haven’t come home with that Wow factor feeling, which so many other reviewers have had – so maybe my expectations were just too high!

For me the position of the hotel is the only valid reason why we will not return ….. unless we don’t find anywhere better in the Couples Range (this was our first Couples holiday after many Thomson Gold’s) in a country with such excellent weather. This was our third consecutive year of holidaying in Cyprus, in June, and in all that time we have only experienced 1 day of rainy/cloudy weather.

I don’t think Thomson explain that the road next to the hotel is the MAIN road into Limassol. From the brochure description I had imagined just a quiet, little road, but in reality it could be compared to a grand-prix circuit at certain times of the day. For me who, unfortunately is sound sensitive it was invasive and spoilt the holiday as I found it difficult to relax, although having a painful back at the time didn’t help either! Also, I don’t appreciate having to wear earphones to drown out a constant drone of cars on holiday! One day there was a crash outside the hotel and the bang resounded around the hotel area! Luckily no-one was hurt but the cars were very poorly! Even early morning reading on the balcony was disturbed by traffic sound.

My husband did relax however and wasn’t bothered by the road at all, except by the pool!

I was not impressed by Limassol, it didn’t have the same feel or ambience as Ayia Napa, Sandy Bay, Nissi Beach or Paphos …. but that is just a personal opinion. I have no urge to return there, even to the Four Seasons which looks like a rather classy hotel!

Atlantica Bay could improve by:
• Updating the sunbeds and meeting the descriptions of other Couples Hotels.
• Somehow reducing the noise levels around the pool.
• Better service and menu options at the Beach Snack Bar, such as a fresh salad bar.
• Instructing staff to keep up the standards but to smile more – smiles are free!
• Improve housekeeping - ensure rooms have all stated amenities in them, before they are occupied by new clients.
• Look at Health & Safety issues near doorways and the upkeep of the communal plastic chairs.

Taking all aspects into consideration, The Atlantica Bay is a good hotel, one which we could recommend with the provisos regarding location, noise and lack of Wow factor.

We won’t return, but our attitude now-a-days is, that life is too short to not experience new places!

Room Tip: Superior rooms are worth that bit extra.

Just returned from a 11 day all inclusive stay at the Atlantica Bay, having previously read the almost universal praise for this hotel, we were wondering if our first trip would live up to expections. We weren't disappointed.
*The hotel is staffed with a cadre of extremely supportive and helpful staff
*Food is uniformly good/excellent
*Hotel is clean and comfortable.
*Management are always available if you have any query and need soemthing changing.
*Entertainment /events are relatively low key and no one is pressured into taking part
* A la carte resturant lives up to its name and the food was superb.
*The pianist who pays in the bar twice a week is outstanding.

On the few negative points
* We would have preferred not to find a cockroach in our room (on 4th floor) the first night
* The beach while convenient (and has it's own bar) is nothing special and not private
* The battle of the sunloungers became more apparent - with about 2/3 being bagged by 7:00 am most mornings
* The location around the hotel offers little, but you walk along the beach path or get the bus into town - only 5 euros all day ticket.

We are considering returning later on in the year when the temperature hopefully will drop.

Room Tip: Room at rear (overlooking hotel entrance) quiter than front. We were on floor 4 (top) and found air...

We are happy to hear that overall you enjoyed your stay with us.

In reference to the bug in your room, they are not cockroaches but water bugs, which are found in most warm climate islands or countries worldwide.

As an adult hotel, we expect our guests to respect their fellow holiday makers and not to reserve sun beds. These signs are also posted throughout the hotel. Our pool attendant does his better to monitor the situation as well.

We thank you again and look forward to welcoming you later in the year.

Just got back from our week at Atlantica Bay and we are both asking "when can we go back?" The hotel is fantastic and all the staff are really friendly.

Before going I was a little nervous about the food, due to dietary requirements, however I was quickly put at ease as dishes at dinner have signs which say 'contain gluten', 'contain milk', etc. There is plenty of choice at all meals and you'll probably want to have seconds as it is all delicious.

We had a standard room which was nice comfortable and the daily maid service was fantastic. The only downside was the shower - it would have been nice for it to have been a power shower, but it was good enough to do the job. Our room was on the second floor where there is also a library for guests to use, which contains a beautiful chess set.

The pools are nice and there are enough sun loungers, however if you do want a good one then you do have to get up very early! The bar staff around the pool are very friendly and work hard throughout the day in the direct sun. Ice-cream cones are available throughout the day from the pool bar and the ice-cream was delicious.

Though we didn't take part in the entertainment, it was nice to have it in the background during the evening while relaxing on some very comfortable couples seats with a cocktail on the terrace. There is a huge range of drinks as part of the all inclusive package, and you can purchase premium brands if you like.

We visited the spa during the week to take advantage of the free steam room visit (if you book all inclusive) and I also had a back and neck massage. The massage was wonderful and I came out even more relaxed than I was previously. The spa is small but has all the facilities you would expect. The gym is a little disappointing as there isn't much equipment, but the basics are covered.

If staying at the hotel definitely take the time to walk 15 minutes to the ancient ruins - it only costs €1.70 each and you get the opportunity to walk around the ruins. We also went on the Thomson 4x4 tour which was a great day out, but a visit to Paphos Zoo was disappointing. If you plan to take a day trip definitely book a picnic hamper by 7pm the day before (free on all inclusive).

Overall, a great hotel and one which we would be more than happy to return to in the future.
