just come back from a half term holiday with friends at the st raphael. nice clean hotel although a little tired in places( some of the areas have been done up and it has a new wing of bedrooms, new bar area). pools, beach and gardens all great. we were in the main building and the bedrooms were huge. friends were in the new rooms and were very happy, rooms smaller but better balcony.

nice selection for breakfast but no show cooking. mid morning snacks were by waitrose service (burgers, toasted sandwiches ets) and the kids could get choc ices and drinks at the bar and beach snack bar (never ate there) evening meals were buffet and always found something we liked to eat. the lebanese restaurant was a nice change and they served up so much food we could not eat it all. they managed to seat all 18 of us together which was nice as when you read some hotel reviews they dont seem able to do this.

good beer and nice selection of cocktails to keep us happy, not so sure about the wine but i prefer cocktails anyway!! the pool bar was not self service with was great as i have been on all inclusives where the self service bar gets very dirty with all the spilt drinks.

the hotel was very quiet and no need to rush to save a sunbed which was fab! pool cold like most hotels but they had an indoor pool which was heated and the kids enjoyed the change.

because the hotel caters for both all inclusive or half board some of the drinks, room fridge and facilities were not included which i found annoying.

the kids really liked the hotel, selection of food (especially the chocolate fondue at lunchtimes)and the swim up bar! the water slide into the pool was a hit but be careful as its a deep pool so kids need to be confident swimmers. no life guard watching and one of my friends had to jump in to save one of their own kid who got squashed by a big kid being stupid on the slide and another friend jumped in to help a kid who was out of his depth and struggling to swim after going down the slide. its a nice clean beach and shallow so the little ones can paddle easily. my 2 year old loved being able to jump the gentle waves and chase the small fish.

we found the water sports fab and never had to wait to use the pedaloes etc.

the only real let down was the kids club. we never leave our kids in the kids club but if you wanted to it was terrible. the staff were great when out organising the darts or football games etc but when they were in the kids club room they just let the kids run riot and did not play with them or organise anything for them to do. one of the staff spent all her time texting whilst the kids were fighting! whether its better in the summer when its busier i would not know. the floor of the kids club is rubber which is great for safety but filthy and we played with our kids in there for 5 mins and they got grubby. hopefully they will up date these facilities as its a large room, nice and near to the pool area so easy to keep an eye on the kids.

evening entertainment was better than we expected after reading reviews on trip advisor. the only shame was half way through the holiday the hotel decided to change the venue to inside and the room wasnt the best place for it, ruining the atmosphere even though the shows tried very hard.

easy to get local bus to town, worth a quick visit.

overall we were pleased with this hotel and would recommend it to friends. we love cyprus and with kids find the all inclusive packages so much easier. if you want somewhere with good weather in october and the ease of all inclusive i would recommend it. its not a 5 star but a good 4 star hotel with nice staff and good facilities.

From reading previous reviews I must admit we were a little dubious about what the hotel would be like................well all I can say is that we had a FABULOUS holiday at the St Raphael. We had a standard seaview room which was plenty big enough for myself, my husband and our 8 year old daughter. Lovely bathroom, great powerful shower, bathrobes and slippers were a nice touch. Ample wardrobe space.
We travelled just before Ocotber halfterm and upon arrival the hotel was quiet - hardly anyone round the pools so no fighting for sunbeds at dawn!!! Our daughter loved the pool with flume. We also used the beach a lot during our stay.
I have no idea how anyone can say the food was not 5 star standard. We have stayed in many 4 and 5 star hotels and the St Raphael was excellent - plenty of choice (even our daughter who is a vegetarian found plenty to eat) - breakfast was superb - being able to sit outside as lovely. Plenty of variety at lunchtimes, great salads and hot food. We never felt rushed during the evenings, waiters were friendly and helpful.
All in all we all had a brilliant holiday - perfect for relaxing, no lager louts to be seen, and not overcrowded. Weather fantastic, sea warm ....what more could you wish for !

In fairness to the hotel we had not made our booking with them. We had originally booked the Med Beach but when we got there they told us they where over booked and had arranged for us to stay at the St Raphael which they said was a 5 Star hotel. We have over the years stayed at many 5 Star hotels and the St Raphael doesnot fall into that catagory.
We where accommodated in the new executive block but the rest of the hotel looked pretty dated.
The evening entertainment was pretty poor and was largely based outside in the amphitheatre and geared for young families.
They did have someone playing key board and sing in the dinning room and later in the bar but it was not what you would expect from a 5 Star hotel.
Despite the hotel qouting that they have several Bars the reality is that there is only one on an evening The Captains Bar, with limited seating given the size of the hotel. On two of the evenings local wedding receptions where held at the hotel with several hundred guests attending with the result that the Bar area was over taken by them for a number of hours.
The main restaurant was the Palladium this was more like a cafiteria than a restaurant, depite it occupying a large area the space set aside for serving the food was very crampt with the consequence that guests where right on top of each other in getting their food, also the hotel staff apppeared always to be rushing you through your meal.On one evening we had just had our starters and had gone up for our main course only to come back to the table we had been allocated to find it completely cleared including our wine!
The majority of the guests staying there where young families and it was clear that this is the maket that they are trying to attract.
The staff where always very plesent and the hotel and its grounds where kept clean and tidy

We stayed at the St Raphael in the October half term.
We took two rooms. Both were on the top floor (5th)
Thje hotel decor is a little dated. the kids Loved the pools and especially the slide in the smaller pool.
The beach is quite clean, plenty of umbrella watersports etc.
Its Most definately not 5 star 3 1/2 at a push.
The food was ok, but Breakfast was a nightmare. It was a bun fight every morning to get a table and some food. The hotel must have been quite full. A very large russian contingent, who made the most of the all inclusive package. My idea of a lesiurely breakfast is not been elbowed out of the way by very large woman in bikinis for a pancake ! Sheer Hell. To get by this, my husband and I would have our breakfast at 7.30 (before the rush) and then bring the kids down later about 9 am.
All meals are buffet - (Except the middle eastern resturant, bookings essential)which should be quite good, but other guests would be licking fingers and picking up salad tongs etc- Uck. The best place to eat was the resturant at the marina, although it was only open for 3 days whilst we were there. Also it had a huge colony of cats there which could spoil your meal by constant begging. The Staff were ok, not over helpful, one or two bar staff were abit surly. One lady on reception very helpful, another was just hopeless. We tried to get floodlights on for tennis - Took about half an hour to sort out !
Also with an all inclusive deal, you get no frills - Nasty plastic cups for drinks, no waiter service by the pool , Mass catering. Entertainment was a bit "Butlins" although my seven year old loved the Junior Disco
For service and nicer food etc I would go back to Azia in Paphos,
although my children didnt like it because there is no beach there ! To summarise , No luxuries, a bit basic, lots of hoards at breakfast , buffet food and tennis courts a bit worse for wear!
Still you get what you pay for and I think we went too cheap that year. The kids will love it, you may have mixed feelings

This property was previously owned by Sheraton and was listed as a 5 star property. However, going from a staff of 400 plus to a staff of only 150 you cannot keep the same standards. It really is no longer a 5 star property (our next stop was JW Marriott, Dubai - now that was truly 5 star).

The Aqua Bar/Pool was very busy. One day there was problems with someone that had drunk too much and the bartender was not getting much help to remove the man. There doesn't appear to be any security available except to call the local police.

The electricity went out several times while we were there and therefore the air conditioning didn't work. There is no generator for these emergencies. The public areas of the hotel are not air conditioned or if they were it was not working properly.

The hotel is not all bad. My husband and I are in our early 50's and I would say it is not a hotel for our age group. We stayed in an Executive Marina View room for six nights which had a nice terrace overlooking the grounds and marina.

Food in the hotel was okay, but nothing great. We went down the street to several other places to eat and they were fabulous and cheaper than the hotel.

We definitely would not return to this hotel again. It advertises itself as 5 star and it truly is not. And therefore, if you want to pay for a 5 star and enjoy all that it encompasses you might not want to stay here.
