“great service and facilities”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

We travelled to Cyprus with our 5 month old. To sum up it was an amazing holiday as the resort extremely baby friendly and the service was the best I have ever experienced. The staff cannot do enough to help and the facilities are brilliant. The food was great, as were the drinks and cleanliness of the hotel.

I cannot praise the hotel, staff and facilities enough. The spa is well worth a visit. We did not leave the resort for the entire week as there was no need to.

Well done to all of the staff.

we stayed here mid August and having stayed in the hotel previously we had high expectations for our 2 week stay - we were not disappointed!! Our 2 children are both on special diets and the chefs and restaurant staff could not have done any more to acommodate them , the staff in all areas of the hotel were superb. The hotel complex is superb , the variety of food is fantastic with menus changing daily. We will return to the St Raphael because both our previous visits have been so good that we don't believe the experience could be matched elsewhere.

We stayed here at the end of August, we are a family of 4 with 2 children aged 2 and 6.

From the beginning at check in you realise this isn't just your normal all inclusive resort.
We stayed in the executive wing after reading information from this site and it was truly worth the extra cost. We were escorted up to our room by the concierge who went into detail every aspect of the room and gave us lots of hotel information. The room was large, bright, spacious with a sliding door that separates the children sleeping area from the adult area. The balcony was very large and private and after being given the full health and safety inspection by an over protective dad, was pronounced safe!

The food was absolutely amazing and catered for everyone of all types. It was also good to see that chicken that doesn't get used up one night is chicken in a sauce the next! The food was different every day we stayed - very refreshing in an all inclusive resort.

The executive wing pool was always clean and to be honest a nice place to relax without any rowdiness. There was also the garden which does not allow children, which was a peaceful haven for lots of couples. Next to the executive wing pool was the Splash restaurant and bar, a perfect place for families to dine as there are no dress restrictions and plenty of food variety too.

We did dine in seashells off the menu and just to warn you the portions are huge!!! My 6 year old had the spaghetti bolognese which to be honest the size was what I usually cook for the whole family! I had the calamari, again gorgeous but HUGE!

I had a facial at the spa and although pricey was worth every penny, I have never fallen asleep during any beauty treatment but Lily the beautician was amazing and yes I did have a little snooze! Her knowledge was excellent, her English perfect and such a genuine and warm person I would highly recommend any treatment from her, she also gave me a guided tour of the spa, which is amazing and definitely five star.

My husband also used the hairdressers and thoroughly recommends this too.

The kids disco was perfectly targeted for our age range of kids but would probably be too young for anyone over 9 or 10 but they do have a large wii or x box with a huge screen on every night in thee garden to keep the older children happy.

The only moan we had with service was that reception refused to change English £50 notes and wanted a credit card instead and then wanted to charge 5% commission on, we didn't want to use our credit card, but there was a supermarket across the road who changed our money for us.

I think the final thing that has to be mentioned is the Russian occupants which was about 90% of the hotel. Yes they are rude, but it's not just too English they are rude to each other too! If you have a pram be prepared to be pushed away from the lift as they cannot walk up the 26 stairs from the restaurant to the lobby, so be prepared to wait! Also I have never ever seen people eat so much as they do! You have to have a stomach of steel to watch them eat!
However that is the way they are and no 5 star stay will change that and by the end of the stay you become accustomed to them.

All in all avert relaxing and outstanding holiday which went by so quick it felt like a weekend away.

Congratulations to all the team at the St Raphael and you do all work as a team, it is good to see. I am sure your manager is proud of you all.

Room Tip: Definitely worth upgrading to the executive wing especially if you have children too.

Dear FarnhamDeb Family,
Thank you so much for your detailed feedback. We are indeed extremely proud of our team who work exceptionally hard at providing the best service and value for money possible. We also thank you for your comments on our Serenity Spa at St Raphael Resort, we do also have a TripAdvisor listing for the spa should you care to post your comments there - our beautician will be thrilled. She is indeed a very good therapist and many guests have told us that they sleep during her facials due to her calm aura and professional manners. Your comments about the portion sizes at Seashells also made us laugh - in Cyprus, we tend to like our food and a lot of it! I am so sorry to hear that you difficulty exchanging a fifty sterling pound note as this is not our policy and we always exchange notes of all amounts. Might it have been that the note was Scottish or Irish? If this was the case, then our staff may not have recognised it and hence not exchanged this for you (as most hotels do not) however thank you for bringing this to our attention and I will investigate further. Finally thank you for your honest comments regarding your experience with other nationalities. We look forward to welcoming you back at our award winning resort very soon. Kind regards,

where do i start. Have just got back from St Raphael resort Cyprus. The hotel is really nice, clean infact spotless. We stayed in a 3 bed room that was located to the side of the complex on the 5th floor, there are 6 floors in total, all rooms have air condtion that works.Being on the 5th floor was not a problem as there are 2 lifts that service the hotel and believe me they are fast and great to ride in as they offer views of the hotel through the panoramic glass " we would wave to each other as we where decending to meet the other families we went with". We went all inclusive and found this was perfect for us as we could leave the 14, 15 and 16 year olds to do there own thing. The drinks where ok and restricted to local products so if you like the good stuff take it with you "2 bottles should see you through".
The food was exemplary and not to be understated at all, plenty to choose from breakfast, dinner and evening meal, all buffet of course. The staff we came across where pleasent, informative and dropped what ever they where doing to assist us. Im thinking ahead of my self as i write this and trying to think of any bad points to balance this review but none come to mind yet so ill carry on with the good stuff.
The beach is clean and the sea goes out shallow to a distance of 25/30 mters great for the young family and is protected from the marinar walls whilst all around is getting the waves from the afternoon winds. The winds where a godsend in the heat.
The hotel is surrounded by grass,we loved this because it was cool under foot and all your gear stayed sand free. If you decide to venture down to the beach " a 3 minute walk really" there are showers to rince off and bring your body temperature back down. There is plenty of sun shade provided from trees and parasols and in any case ice cold drinks on constant supply to help you cool down aswell.
The evenings where relaxed and where started by having dinner in the palladium restaurant with a strict dress code of trousers for men always made the evening meal special and made you make an effort for the evening. I have read some of the reviews and they report that the hotel is full of Russians, thats true i would say 90% are Russian. Ive just had 12 days trying to figure them out and cannot reason why they will not smile/talk in public. They do keep there cards close to there chest, " i wonder if its to do with there history and Stalin ect etc " i dont know but i would love to have struck up a friendship but could not get the chance to.
Ive been coming to Cyprus since 1975, have owned a resaurant in limmasol, can cook all Cyriot foods in fact my Mother lived here for 36 years. This is my first stay in a hotel in Cyprus since 1975 and we all enjoyed it very much.
Just to conclude my review i would get up at 6.30 in the morning to be the first to place my towels on the sun beds and the Russians would still be there first and no they dont leave them there all night because the sprinklers are turned on. Ha ha ha.
"THEY DONT LIKE IT UP EM THESE FUZZY WUZZIES"

Room Tip: Make sure when booking room you have a room with a marina view and not sea view these are two differ...

Dear Mr David356A, Thank you so much for your positive review. We are delighted to read that you had such a wonderful holiday with us and we do hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back soon. The only point that I would like to kindly correct for other readers, is that we include IMPORTED (house brands) of alcoholic beverages as part of the All Inclusive package so there is no need for any guests to bring their own, unless of course they are looking for ultra premium brands which we do also sell (with a small reduction if on AI package). The drinks on the All Inclusive package include Gordons Gin, Red Label, White horse, Famous Grouse and Ballantines Whiskies, Smirnoff and Stolyshynia vodkas and Keo Brandy, Irish Cream and Amaretto Liqueurs, Commandaria, Filfer, Keo and Leon Beers, Martini Bianco, Roso and Dry, Campari, Champagne Cocktails and wines by the glass among other options (brands are subject to change at management discretion). Thank you for all your notes and comments and I did smile reading your views on some of our guests (I believe that there are many books on various different cultures which look quite interesting). We look forward to being of service to you once again in the near future,

We stayed here at the beginning of August for two weeks and can honestly say that this is one of the best and most relaxing holidays we’ve had.

We were delayed on our arrival (thanks again Thomas Cook airlines), slightly frayed and very tired but the welcome from Reception was very friendly and efficient. We had one slight issue with the third bed in our room but that was quickly dealt with and so we could start to unwind.

Our first surprise came the next morning when, after attending the welcome meeting, we rolled out to the pool at around noon and couldn’t believe our eyes at the number of available sun beds and umbrellas. This continued throughout our whole two week stay despite the hotel being full. This is clearly because the grounds are so extensive with sun beds and umbrellas available at the beach, in the quiet garden area and by the pool that there is just plenty of space for everyone to spread out. For me, not having to set an alarm to reserve beds and umbrellas made my holiday!

Accommodation
We were initially confused by the different room options due to slightly misleading photographs. Having visited it’s now all so obvious but those fish-eye lenses turned a single bed into a double bed on the web site and meant we paid for an upgrade that, in retrospect, we didn’t need. Our party had a standard sea view room with a third bed and a standard inland view room. Both rooms were clean and comfortable, very quiet and efficiently serviced. We had a couple of issues over the weekends when we weren’t left sufficient towels; very minor but such a basic mistake!

Food
Breakfast in the Octagon was very good; there is plenty of choice of hot and cold and it’s all well prepared. If you missed breakfast then snacks start from 10:30 and are cooked to order; quality is again very good.
Lunch was served in the Octagon, the Splash Pool Bar and Seashells on the beach. We tried all of them and weren’t disappointed at all.
The buffet dinner was in the main Palladium restaurant with a set meze meal available with pre-booking in the Phoenician.
The Palladium was very good. No matter what time we went in there were always tables and the service was very efficient and friendly. Each night is supposed to be themed but I must say some of the links between the theme and food served is quite tenuous. The Italian and Cypriot nights were as expected but the Carvery night was bizarre. We expected some carved meats, roast potatoes, vegetables etc. but apart from some gammon it was not a carvery as we know it; I only mention it because on one of the International nights they served roast lamb and roast beef together with some very nicely roasted potatoes so it just looked like they got out of sync somewhere along the line!
The only disappointment we had was with the Phoenician. We booked for 8:30pm and had a very nice table in the centre of the room. The meze starters came out with fresh pitta bread and it was all delicious. The main course was a selection of grilled meats served on an Arabic style grill. It all looked very pretty but we found the meat very tough and dry; clearly it continues to cook whilst at your table so it’s important that you get the meat off as soon as possible. The desserts were your usual selection of Greek style baklava etc. and tasty enough but, by this time (around 9:45) all the staff had disappeared and were clearly waiting for us to leave. It was a shame because we fancied sharing a Shisha but there really was nobody around! Magically, as soon as we left our table and ascended the stairs all the waiters appeared out of nowhere to clear our table. We didn’t go back.
We didn’t visit The Sailor’s Rest because it wasn’t part of the All-Inclusive package (although hotel guests do get 10% off at certain times) but we heard reports from others that the food there was excellent too; certainly, the menu looked good just a bit too expensive for us.
The staff throughout were excellent. A special mention must go to Gabriella who looked after us most breakfast times on the terrace outside the Octagon and to Sandra and Panikos at the Amphibion Pool Bar.

The Entertainment
It’s been mentioned before that the evening entertainment is weekly so you will see the same shows twice if you’re there for a fortnight. Personally, we don’t go for the shows as our children are older and we generally give them a miss. Having said that, I did watch the Fire show and that was excellent.
The team work hard during the day and there is plenty going on if you’re interested. We had a couple of issues with the team unfortunately. They clearly are focussed on the Russian clientele and tailor things to them. Fortunately, the hotel seemed to realise this and drafted in Ricardo from another hotel to look after the English guests. He was fantastic and very friendly; a definite asset. Also, the Aqua Aerobics was a bit of a joke. Again, I know it’s supposed to be a bit of fun and it certainly isn’t going to change your fitness level over the course of a fortnight but when we’ve attended these sessions at other hotels the team generally take it quite seriously and give you a good workout. Unfortunately, these guys liked to show off and jumped and flipped into the pool constantly; it’s not a major thing and certainly won’t bother everyone but it spoilt it a bit for us. I made up for it by just watching the antics whilst enjoying a drink at the swim-up bar!

The Russians
I’ve kept a separate section for our Russian friends. Yes, they are in the majority. Yes, they clearly have different values and sense of what is and what isn’t polite but you know what, accept all that and just get on with your own holiday! It’s nothing directed at the British personally, they’re equally rude to each other, barging in and out of the elevators, not holding doors etc. it’s just how they are. In fact, through a trip out one day that a number of them were on we ended up on nodding terms with a few and managed to get them smiling!

The Spa
What a beautiful spa! I believe that it was new this year and it certainly shows. All the facilities are very modern, clean and spacious. The staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. My wife and I enjoyed one of their "couples" treatments and I must say that we can't wait to do it again!

Holiday Overall
Fantastic. In fact, we’ve already booked for next year (that sun bed thing just clinched it for me!)

Room Tip: The sea view rooms are very nice but to be honest I would be just as happy in one of the inland room...

We travelled here end of July beginning of August for two weeks, a family of five with kids 4,11 and 6. We have stayed at all inclusives many times as we prefer them. This is the best all-inclusive we have stayed in, from the moment we arrived till the moment we left we felt completely pampered and looked after. The staff everywhere in the hotel were lovely nothing was two much trouble. We had an inland view family room, which is the only one that can accommodate the larger families and it was very spacious, twin beds, bunk beds and another small camp bed, it also had table four chairs and lots of room surrounding it, there was plentiful storage for clothing etc. we weren't at all cramped - which I have felt previously in some 2 bedroom apartments!! The food was wonderful we enjoyed eating in every restaurant and I am vegetarian and found an excellent choice at every meal. The splash cafe was great for the kids as they could eat from 12-6 everyday and food was cooked fresh throughout this time. The beach bar was a lovely alternative for a snack or drink it was just nice to sit and watch the world go by!! Not forgetting the Sailors Rest Bar which had a wonderful cocktail selection and yet more attentive staff, the air conditioning inside area here was a nice place to sit to cool down and watch the Olympics and use the free lobby wifi. Entertainment all round was good - the kids club, the activities water polo, darts etc and night time shows all kept us busy but not worn out! Only very slight critism which I have seen on a review before and agree with is - we stayed 14 nights and the shows were weekly so did catch repeat performances and suggest perhaps changing to fortnightly rotation might be an idea? But still the fire show, magic show and dancing were of a really good standard and the animation team were all wonderful and worked so hard - thanks!! We met many many lovely people on holiday here and some have returned year after year we too have already looked to re-book to return and will definitely be doing so. Also the Russian guests were mostly fine and enjoyed mixing with different cultured people who if you acknowledged were interesting and entertaining.

I could continue on a very long time as you can no doubt tell we had a really wonderful holiday in a top notch all inclusive, set on a beautiful beach surrounded by lush gardens fantastic glorious sunshine every day. We will be back!!!
