“A "must visit" if in Limassol old town”
Reviewed November 18, 2011

We have visited over a number of years when it was know as Fanari so returned in September having heard it had changed hands and expected changes. It's still a fabulous place to sit and watch the comings and goings in the other market square restaurants and to and from the indoor market. The new owners are lovely and Barbara is just as happy to service you with a drink if you don't want to eat (some of the other restaurants in the square are reluctant to just serve drinks). However, we strongly recommend you try the food here- it is fabulous. My husband liked nothing better than to head into the old town, enjoy a couple of cold beers here and then order the mixed kebab in pitta bread. If our hotel was nearer my fear is he would venture to no other restaurant! We returned several times in September during our stay and then it was the first place we headed for on our return to Cyprus in November. It is exceptional value and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Please visit - you won't be disappointed

“Traditional set-up, traditional food and traditional Cypriot hospitality!”
Reviewed July 13, 2011

We visited Diogenis' Lantern a couple of times on our short visit to Cyprus. The restaurant is not one of the newly refurbished swanky, stylish and characterless haunts that seem to be cropping up every 200 yards, but harks back to the Cyprus of old, before Club 18-30 discovered the nightlife and bars.
The set up is old school - traditional village chairs and checked linen tablecloths. This restaurant was recently taken over and seems to have found a new lease of life. The council have spent a lot of money regenerating the area (and still are), and this restaurant benefits from the very pleasant courtyard feeling created on the square, although there are tables inside too.
The food is of exceptional quality - using locally produced food and age old recipes. The salads are fresh, tasty and plentiful and the pork kebabs are amazing!
When you go, try the mini meze - not that mini! Everything we tried tasted better than the last and there were generous portions which kept us full all day. Very reasonably priced too!
The restaurant is open all day and into the evening. Say hello to Barbara if you visit!
