“A fantastic vacation - 3rd time round!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2011

As the title suggests this is our 3rd time at the Olympians. We simply love the laid back feel of these villas - perfect for re-charging one's batteries after a hectic winter! The villas are clean and generally well-maintained and some minor issues were dealt by the staff quickly and efficiently. The owners were fantastic, even accommodating a last-minute change of plans that arose due to the obliteration of the main power station on the island. The kitchen is small, but well-equiped and we enjoyed preparing our meals literally a stone's throw from the pool. We had friends visiting us throughout our 1-week stay there and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only niggle was the poor TV reception - Latchi is pretty remote, but to be honest after the first night, we weren't that interested in watching it anyway. Opted to watch some DVD's that we had brought along instead. Generally, if you are looking for excitement and/or fully inclusive vacations, the Olympians is not for you. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation with friends or family, the Olympians is a fantastic choice!

Room Tip: Rooms facing north-west have the best sea-breeze and the least sun. We only used air-conditioning on...

Some of our friends introduced The Olympian Latchi Beach Villas for our summer holidays in Cyprus. They said it would be just what we needed to relax. They were absolutely right!. The setting was magnificent, you literally wake up in nature, you have excellent sea view. Very hospitable, the owners are eager to help for anything we may need. We relaxed to the great stone, traditional villas with our private swimming pool. The place was very clean and the prices were remarkably cheap!!! We will definitely come back!

Room Tip: It worths visiting!!!Excellent setting at affordable prices!

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Olympians which we booked through Thomsons.
We arrived very late at night and there wasnt so much as a bottle of water in the fridge for us - not a good start.
The villa (Artemis) was very worn and had a feeling that everything had been done as cheaply as possible - from furnishings to decor eg the kitchen table had to double as a patio table; the washing machine drum would spin even when the door was open; the bathrooms had dirty and loose grouting around the bath and showers. The bathrooms were so small that standing in the ensuite I could touch one wall and my other hand was in the bedroom - to sit on the loo one needed to leave the (sliding) bathroom door open - horrible. When the main family bathroom shower (6' x 4') was used the water wasnt contained within the shower tray as the shower curtain was too short and the water ran into the corridor and down the stairs. When we reported this we were told by the maid to leave a rolled up towel along the bottom of the bathroom door!! There is an old TV but the only English channel is Euronews - luckily our daughter had a portable DVD player for the extra hot periods aound noon. If you want to use the iron you will need to ask the maid for a plug adaptor as the iron has a European 2 pin plug and the sockets are the 3 pin type.
Outside, the main problem is there are no gates to the property and therefore none of the privacy promised - in addition, anyone on a balcony on a neighbouring property can see the whole of your garden and into the facing bedroom and lounge. There is also a security question mark as there are public footpaths running along 2 sides of the property so in my opinion gates in both walls are necessary. Whilst we were there the gardeners threw some type of fertiliser on the lawn so for the last 3 days of our holiday we had an overpowering smell of chemicals. No warning given and it was only by chance that we were up early and saw them doing it. The pool had lots of missing tiles and a thick rim of chlorine crystals at the waterline. The villa sleeps 6 but only has 4 sun loungers.
We also felt that 6 Euros per room per night for air con was excessive.
In all its a build up of little niggles that made us feel we would certainly not choose these villas again

OLYMPIANS, Owner at The Olympians Latchi Beach Villas, responded to this review, August 17, 2011
Dear Customer,

First of all accept our honest apologies for any problems caused by The Olympians Latchi Beach Villas and we do feel sorry for not meeting your expectations.

Before going into a thorough answer for each of the points highlighted I would like to say that almost all our customers are excited and happy to return to our Villas again and again. (References and even direct communication with our customers is possible - if needed - and also reviews can be found at many reputable websites such as TripAdvisor)

Allow me to go through your review and provide you with some answers because we do feel that it does not reflect to the real situation.First of all allow me to clearly state that The Olympians Latchi Beach Villas is a group of self-catered villas, meaning that the owner does not have the responsibility to equip the villas with any kind of supplies apart linen. However if your booking comes through one of our agencies you have the option to buy for an additional small fee a welcome food pack. As per your agency instruction there wasn’t any food pack paid for you.

Furnishings and decor are all based on the traditional Greek style. We never promised something different than that. Besides, our website features photos of them; we have never tried to raise your expectations and mislead you by showing you different photos other than the ones provided.

Regarding the TV, we have never claimed that we offer a satellite signal with a variety of English Spoken channels. All the channels that are shown are based on a terrestrial digital signal. This includes, of course the Euronews channel which based on an EU directive we do have to offer it. But in order to be fair at this point I guess you would agree with me that all foreign movies presented are British and/or American spoken with Greek subtitles – whereas in other countries they use to dub movies on local languages. As regards the DVD player we do also have available some units which you could have at no charge – so even if your daughter would prefer to keep her portable DVD for herself this wouldn’t have been a problem. For special occasions, some of our customers have requested to watch specific events such as The Olympics, World Cup games, etc. and we had arranged with some pubs/restaurants and the nearby Elia Village Hotel for a special deal for them. All you had to do was to discuss your problem with us and I am sure we could have worked this out!

“The villa sleeps 6 but only has 4 sun loungers”. That’s true. However this is because the booking instructions came from your agency was for only three persons (two adults and one child). We never thought that placing an additional lounger would have made our customers feel that there are two missing; we felt that it would make them feel that there is one extra.
As regards the iron it’s true that we do import all of our equipment from EU countries. Most of them use a 2-pin socket whereas in Cyprus we do have the British standards. All you need is an adapter which we provide again for no charge. We usually have our sockets equipped with one but it has come into our attention that other customers may take that by mistake. All you had to do about that was to mention your problem and this could have been fixed instantly.

About the fertilisers allow me to reassure you that everything that we are using is 100% safe under strict EU directives. This includes both fertilisers and swimming pool chemicals. This is a standard procedure that we follow in order to keep the grass and plants healthy and also many bugs away from your villa. But again, we do repeat that they are non-toxic and they cannot cause any problem to humans or even pets. Even if this does not satisfies you all you have to do was to mention that and the owners would be happy to even change the villa for you!

About the air-conditioning charge, we do feel sorry about it but unfortunately the whole country suffers on this area due to the recent accident at the primary power generation station of the country which we are sure that you are aware of. We, at The Olympians Latchi Beach villas do our best in order to ensure continuous power supply although almost all areas of the island have a 2-hour power cut every 24 hours. Unfortunately the power cost raised significantly hence the 6-euro additional charge for the air-conditioning.

As regards the rest of your comments, we do have to thank you for your constructive feedback and we reassure you that we are going to take every possible precaution to improve the accommodation standards of our customers.

For once again accept our apology for all the problems caused – although we do feel that by direct communication with your care takers and the owners who are in place for you, most of the problems would have been solved.

Just back from two weeks in these villas with Thompson. Have to say they’re pretty much as described in the brochure, 10 villas in a quiet location 15 mins walk from Latchi and a stones throw from a beach which is so unspoilt they have about a dozen turtle nests spread around. The villas themselves I’d not describe as luxury, they’re a little too dated and ‘lived in’ for that, but they are very comfortable and roomy. They’re laid out so you’re not overlooking anyone else and they give the feel of privacy although people do go past the garden occasionally. I can understand the comments about cleanliness of the facilities in other reviews. The place was reasonable clean, especially the pool which was kept spotless, but the grouting round the bath and a few corners could of done with a deep clean. Also there were a lot of birds about so the patio and balconies could of done with but didn't get, a good clean at least once a week. However the lady and guys that were looking after the place were really nice and helpful.

Latchi is a quiet place, the evening entertainment consists of going out for a meal at one of the numerous bars around the marina but there seemed to be some bars that stayed open late, although we were never up to see them. Latchi is a bit out of the way for the main tourist spots in Cyprus, so if you wanted to visit them you have to be prepared to do quite a bit of driving. All the supermarkets in Latchi are open every day until late so don’t worry if you’re arriving late Saturday night. Be aware the 15 min walk was fine for us as we're quite fit, but can feel a long way in the heat or at night when the lights aren't working.

We very much appreciated the owners allow us to stay in the villa all day on our last day as we had a night flight, so thanks very much to them!

We stayed at The Olympians several times the past 5 years, following recommendations from friends.

The whole villa complex feels private and exclusive, in a tranquil location away from main roads or busy beaches or bars, ideal for those who just need to relax, sunbathe and have some quality time with family and friends. You can go for a 5 to 10-minute drive to pretty much everywhere on the Latchi/Polis area.

The villas look fantastic, each with its own character, well maintained and excellent for complete chillout, day and night. I have seen from another review that there were issues with the cleanliness of the facilities: it was never an issue for us.

We have been renting properties for summer stays for more than a decade now, and The Olympians is highly recommended if you need a truly relaxing holiday at a quiet setting!

Room Tip: Go for one of the villas closer to the water for even more privacy.

Have just returned from one of the seafront Olympian villas and had a thoroughly enjoyable relaxing stay. How many villas have such a privileged beachfront position yet be so tranquil, where you can lie in bed, see the sea and hear it gently lapping, as its only 100m away. As I have a keen interest in nature and wildlife, I was rewarded with the feeling that I was in a nature reserve because of all the natural Cypriot flora and fauna, especially birds such as the wild partridge that runs along the unspoilt beach in the morning, flocks of seabirds gently parading the skies, there is also a resident bird of prey, a small hawk which hunts from the field adjoining the villas.
The villa was absolutely fantastic, very private, just over 1km from Latchi, which is easily walkable in 20 minutes along the beach path. There are about 10 harbour front tavernas in Latchi, quite touristy for a small fishing village, the best we found was at the far end called Y&P specialising in fresh fish, we went twice and the service was very friendly and the fish consistently excellent. There are some we didn’t like such as Linardo’s, friendly service but mediocre food. Also in Polis I would highly recommend the Old Town restaurant for a special occasion, more imaginative food but well worth the extra premium.
If you like walking, hiking or diving this is an ideal base for exploring the Akamas peninsula, a protected nature reserve with fantastic sea views from the marked hiking trails and crystal clear waters. We did some other interesting day trips to Kourion, an ancient city with mosaics, Pomos Point where there is a great taverna for lunch overlooking the tiny fishing harbour and we had a good long walk along the seafront at Paphos ending at the Seagull restaurant, surprisingly sophisticated, where we had a really good meal. Don’t bother going up into the upper town part of Paphos, there’s nothing of note there.
I can’t wait to return to this villa, which had all we needed and especially the lovely private pool and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to visit this unspoilt part (for the moment) of Cyprus. The owner visits frequently and he gave us a warm welcome and wanted to check we were happy with everything, I felt nothing was too much trouble for him or John the caretaker.
PS attached is a photo of one the long eared hedgehogs that live in the rockery in the garden that we were lucky enough to see one evening, also 2 from the walk around the Akamas peninsula.

When we arrived at the villa (Poseidon) for a three night stay over Easter, we were greeted with a warm reception from John and were extremely pleased with the location of the villa. Once inside, we soon noticed that the villa looked as if it had been closed over the winter and not cleaned thoroughly before we arrived. We found maggots on the floor in the upstairs bathroom. The pots and pans were dirty and there were animal hairs in the kitchen area. There was a large amount of pigeon dirt around the pool area and on the upstairs balcony. Undeterred, we called John who arranged for the cleaner to come round straight away, which she did.
Two days later, the maggots returned to the bathroom. We thought we should speak to Dr Elias to let him know that we thought there may be a problem. When he arrived, he was irritated at having been called out at the weekend, and could not see what our issue was. He told us that we should expect 'dirt' because we were in a villa out in the nature. He also told us that as we were getting the villa for a good price, we should not expect top standards. This was then followed by him telling us that it was not a hotel and we should not have rung him. He also was not prepared to clean up the maggots as he was a qualified surgeon and would not do this.
All in all, we were extremely disappointed in his reaction. It really was a shame that he did not even apologise for the problems we were having. We would not stay here again nor recommend it.

OLYMPIANS, owner at The Olympians Latchi Beach Villas, responded to this review, April 20, 2010
"Thank you for your recent comments on our villas, and we do welcome any constructive feedback, which we value as this will help us to improve our service. We have now conducted a full investigation into the matters raised, and as a result we have instigated a full deep clean to this particular villa and reviewed the level of cleanliness in all our other villas too. We have also identified the cause of the maggots, which was a small bird that must have been trapped inside and died, which was regrettably missed by our cleaning staff. We will continue to closely monitor the normally high standards of our cleanliness to ensure an incident like this does not reoccur and to reassure our future customers. We have a lot of positive feedback from our customers and have much repeat business but unfortunately most of these customers do not use trip advisor to write reports about their holidays. If anyone does have a problem whilst staying with us they are very welcome to personally tell me and I will continue to treat any issues with the utmost priority. Dr Elias."
