“€78 for 4 nights- great value for money budget hotel”
Reviewed November 14, 2011

A great value budget hotel.

Room was clean and tidy though a little outdated.

Housekeeping came round daily with fresh towels and linen if required.

Public areas were clean and tidy. Pool looked very clean

Very quiet at night (by Cypriot standards- no scooters or horns etc!) so sleeping wasn`t an issue versus other hotels we looked at in Larnaca centre.

Only had breakfast during this stay which was absolutley fine- basic stuff- cereals, boiled eggs, cheese and cold meats etc, toast, tea and coffee.

The staff were spot on- polite and helpful- didn`t experience any of the issues previously posted.

If visiting Larnaca again I would base myself here no probs

Not a lot within walking distance so either head into Larnaca centre- €7 in a taxi or turn left out the hotel and head straight all the way-it`s a 15 minute walk.

As residents of Cyprus, my wife and I stay at the San Remo whenever we fly to and from Larnaca airport being about a 10 minute drive away. Basic it may be, but it fulfills a need for a cheap and cheerful place to stay, either for a weary traveller or for a holiday. The rooms are always clean and the staff always cheerful and helping. Breakfast is adequate and reflects the prices being paid.
To summarise a basic, good value for money hotel.

First of all l have to say what do people expect for the price they pay? if your expecting 5 star quality don't stay here, but if you are looking for a hotel thats less than 5 minute drive from Larnaca town centre, thats very clean, with friendly helpful staff, with a lovely clean pool, free air conditioning, comfy beds, clean towels changed whenever required, then stay at the San Remo. It can be difficult to find, but if your driving on the coast road, look for Charmers Restaurant (with a large fish on the sign outside) then take the next turning on the right and at the bottom of the road turn right again and the San Remo is directly in front of you. Ok the breakfast is basic, with three different cereals, cold meats, cheese, sliced toms and cucumber. Toast (white and brown) fruit juices, and tea and coffee. One morning we even had hot bacon, sausages and beans on offer!
The room is a nice size, plenty of room to leave your luggage open on the wooden luggage bench, loads of hanging space and drawers. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, the bathroom was a good size too, with plenty of hot water all the time we needed it, but look out sometimes the water temperature can fluctuate. The air conditioning unit was quiet enough to not disturb our sleep, though we did have a problem with the unit dripping water on the second day, which was fixed within an hour, but started dripping again on our last day, but never stopped working. Everytime we returned to our room, we were greeted with a lovely lemony smell, which we think was coming from the towels, might not be to everyones taste.
We are not heavy drinkers, but had a Baileys on a few evenings and the measure was massive! I would say four times the measure you would normally get!
In conclusion, I would recommend this hotel to any of my friends and relatives and yes l would stay at the San Remo again.

I really just want to say thankyou to all the the staff at the Remo for making our holiday one of the best!!
When you can take seven close friends to a hotel they have never been to before and they love it, something has to be right.
If we were not relaxing in the pool we were relaxing in the Med, two weeks of recharging our batteries helped along by the odd Keo.....
Debbie the manager was terrific she took time to join our party for a drink in the evenings when she had finished work and made us feel so welcome.
Nothing is too much trouble, we were all late for breakfast one morning, Debbie made sure we were all fed and watered.
We asked Nick the owner of the San Remo to book us a taxi to go to one of the amazing fish restaurants in the area. Nick said he would get a friend to take us....no charge.
What a wonderfully friendly team of cleaning staff.......
Our rooms were cleaned everday and clean towels were given anytime we asked, nothing is ever too much trouble
I asked for three extra pillows Debbie the manager brought them to our room immediately.
I love the sights and sounds of Cyprus I miss it and the San Remo.
We will see you all next year....again a big thank you.

Yes it is value for money if you do not mind basic standards. Having travelled the world a couple of years ago staying at many hostels, I cannot say that this offers the quality that may be expected of a hotel of this size but if you are on a budget and do not want a large/useable pool then it may be worth a look.

For:
Good size rooms. TV has lots of English channels.
No hassle from other guests/staff.
English speaking staff

Against:
Limited breakfast selection - if you are into your cereals or do not like pickled vegetables/greek yoghurt /boiled eggs with grey yolks, or toast, you will probably want your own breakfast elsewhere. Having eaten breakfast, I can say that it did not make us ill once which is good.

Location - About a 20/30 minute walk to the main strip of restaurants/bars (part of it unpedestrianised). The McKenzie Beach is nearer to the hotel and is 'ok' but do not expect to sleep on the beach as airplanes fly over your head (literally) - we preferred to walk to the Fenekoudes beach each day where you have more conveniences (e.g. shop/toilets/showers) nearby.

Cleanliness/Age - The hotel generally needs a revamp. Bed linen did not appear to be changed once in our 7 night stay despite us stripping the beds and leaving sheets on the floor to try to give the cleaners a hint.

As we arrived at the hotel its initial appearance really set the tone of the stay. Its illuminated sign was missing the bulbs from the first few letters and the blue lights gave it a slightly tacky feel.

The staff on the desk very helpful and inviting on checking in and we made our way up to the room. As we had not paid a great deal for the stay the room was what we expected. Could have really done with a deep clean, as there were a few stains on the carpet but we did have aircon and a tv with a variety of channels. My one major concern with the room was the condition on the towels as they had stains maybe from bleach and we were reluctant to use them. This was not only in our room but in our neighbours too.

During the first night we were woken at 3am by the bin lorry right outside the room. This is fine as a one off but 6 out the 7 nights we were woken by the noise. I would recommend some earplugs!

Again as we had not paid much the breakfast was as expected. It was basic with toast, meats, cheese and some fresh vegetables. What really made me annoyed was some of the other hotel guests had poor personal hygiene and walked around with no shirt on. This should have really been tackled by the hotel and put me off eating for a few mornings.

The hotel did have a pool area and gym but it again did need a full clean and with all the stray cats wandering around the pool we gave it a miss.

The location of the hotel was good and between the major strip and the beach. There are some nice places to eat with good fish dishes and meze.

In summary it did not live up to all the great reviews we had read before visiting. The hotel owners really need to make more of an effort with the decor and cleaning. I wish that we would say that we made friends with the staff and would love to go back but that was not the case. If you do however want a cheap base with ideal location then this should satisfy and short stay.
