“Another Great Holiday”
Reviewed July 1, 2014

This is our 4th visit to the Pia Bella and it lived up to expectations. On arival at 23.30 Hrs, flight delays, there ws a meal and drink available to us. The staff were friendly and eager to please and we met a number of staff who were at the hotel on our previous visists. The room overlooked gardens and pool and was very clean with regular changing of linen and fresh towels erery day. The food was a good standard and varied. Drinks cost a little more this year but we were prepared to pay more.
Over the years I have suffered neck problems and my wife pursuaded me to try the services of Linda, who provides Ti Massage. I had 3 sessions and felt a lot better. My neck still hurts but I intend visiting practice near where I live to continue the treatment. Linda did a very good job and I would recommend anyone with muscle problems to try Ti Massage.

Room Tip: Upgrade to de luxe

We arrived after a long Journey at 10.30pm at a hotel on a main road with the top sign with two letters missing, into a reception ,that looked left over from the seventies
We had a buffet meal then shown to our room,
Air conditioning broken, television not working, and all the grouting on one side of the bathroom missing
The room was an upgrade but was still disappointing
Somebody from reception came up and sorted out the television and air con pretty quickly and the tiling problem was sorted out a day later
,After meeting the manageress we were shown 3 rooms to change ,two over the car park that we were advised by others who had stayed was not pretty and could be noisy and a room the same dated looking as the one we had
So we stayed where we were, where also we had a badly leaking shower and a fridge that was leaking onto the floor, both problems eventually sorted out.
Our room looked out over the swimming pool (room number 1207) which was quite attractive but totally spoiled with some sort of storage unit and open space right next door which looked like a rubbish tip
.The plus side is the grounds are very nice, with two beautiful pools and plenty of shade
The hotel is a 15 minute walk from the centre Girne, which is the only place to go and apart from that its not as if you can go for a nice walk in the evening, as unless you want a Casino, there is really nowhere to go
The food in the restaurant was adequate(buffet style) but if you want the full English breakfast it will cost you over 12 T. Lire. The staff were excellent as was the the PR(manager) of the hotel, who tried to sort our problems out for us,but not really to our satisfaction, also the reception staff and our representative could take some advice on customer care, as all I experienced was total disinterest when we voiced any problems.
One final point there is a charge for the safe of 20 Turkish Lira which we think is unreasonable.
To summarise if you want a value for money, basic hotel with reasonable food and a good pool area this will do but if you require picturesque luxury this is not for you.

Room Tip: Try and get a new room overlooking the pool

The staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Many of the guests had been before and you could see why. The hotel was clean, the bedrooms spacious with nice balcony - the only grumble was that if you wanted a warm shower then it only dribbled out and a bath was out of the question as would have taken long time to fill, but clean towels, tea and coffee making facilities, toiletries, hairdryer all provided. We went half board but chose to eat out some of the time and there was plenty of choice of places to go to - the food in the hotel was good with plenty of salads, cheeses, cold meats but hot food choice was sometimes limited but setting was lovely. Agree with other reviews that you still get a few Brits who put towels on sunloungers even when they are not using them, but overall there were plenty to go round so not sure why people felt the need to do this. Hotel description on some review sites talks about a small family run hotel so I had impression of small hotel, tucked away about 15 minute walk to main harbour area. The distance was right but I would say it was a medium sized hotel located on the main road towards the old part of Kyrenia. This wasn't a major problem as it was relaxing in the hotel with beautiful landscaped gardens and shady areas for when it got too hot but the immediate area around the hotel is not one that you would particular want to walk around. Overall a lovely relaxing hotel with very friendly staff. Also hotel are happy to organise taxis to local beaches or restaurants which are fairly cheap and there is also a regular bus service that can be used.

Room Tip: Hotel offered free upgrade to superior room but ask for back of hotel towards pool and mountains.

So many guests seem to come back year after year they must be doing something right!
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The pool and garden area, and public rooms are very well kept and pleasant. We had what was classified as a superior room, having booked a standard room in January this was part of a free upgrade. We had requested a view of the pool and garden, and we did get a corner room which showed this, plus the car park beyond, but overall it was a nice view, with the mountains behind. The bedroom and bathroom did seem rather tired and well worn, some mould etc. and chipped furniture. The bed linen was clean and fresh. They were very generous with clean towels, shampoos etc. and we always had hot water. Pool towels were given on production of a card which was exchanged and returned on a daily basis. Northerners, of whom there does seem to be a majority in this hotel, seem to be the new Germans, venturing out at unearthly hours of the morning to grab a sunbed, and then not turning up until midday. The usual notice about not saving beds was on display but whether this is adhered to later in the season, who knows? Maybe they just put more beds out.
The food was a little disappointing. Lots and lots of salads, which were nicely displayed, but little more than variations of the same theme. The main hot dishes were very variable in quality, some of the best being fried fillet of fish. The desserts were pounced upon avidly, mountains of sickly goodies being piled upon plates, and the route in that direction was certainly well worn. Unfortunately if this was not your idea of a good time, it was melon every night. Or pick up a piece of fruit. The piano entertainment between 7 and 9 p.m. during dinner was very pleasant,
Several guests were on B & B, and others varied their diet by going elsewhere to eat for their evening meal. Breakfasts were quite good, with fresh omelettes, eggs of varying types and pancakes, made to order. Do not expect to get bacon! It was served on Father's day as a treat, and was frankly horrible, so maybe it is just as well! Drinks were reasonably priced for a hotel, though most of the wine was a lot dearer than we would have expected. The cheapest bottle was around £10, but the next one up was £15, and this was the same wine that we can buy in our local Turkish restaurant in Britain for the same price! The weekly charge for use of the safe was just 10 lira, which is fantastic when you compare it to Euro charges. The hotel is situated on one of the main roads into Kyrenia, but our room at the back was quiet, except for the regular call from the Mosque around 4 a.m. and a lawnmower which seemed to be regularly started up in the grounds at about 6 a.m. before it got too hot to work I suppose. The walk into town is not particularly picturesque as it is along a fairly busy road, and it takes around 15 to 20 minutes.
The desk are always happy to book you a shared taxi to get to Famagusta or Nicosia, and these are great value at 10 lira and 5 lira each way, per person respectively.
If you have read the review where the lady comments on the chocolate bar in the fridge, I think you should be aware this is a chargeable item as it is part of the mini-bar!

Overall it was a good holiday and if you are someone who likes to return to the same place more than once this is as good a spot as any, particularly while Northern Cyprus is not a member of the EU.

Room Tip: overlooking the garden and pool

Just arrived home from our 2nd visit to the Pia Bella Hotel. Once again the food was excellent with so much choice. The staff were always smiling and made guests feel very welcome. We asked if we could change our room to be in a quieter area away from the front of the hotel,it was done in a very short time..the outside area was looking really pretty this time of the year, once again the entertainment was very good. Its a shame we had to come home.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool or a mountain view.

Have reviewed this hotel a couple of times, but have to enter a new review as circumstances were different on this occasion. We were so looking forward to a 17 night break at a hotel we particularly love. On this occasion, after only 4 nights, we had a call from home of a family emergency and had to get back home. It was approximately 10 p.m when we approached Villet the receptionist, (hope we have spelt his name correctly), he immediately contacted our travel representative at Go North Cyprus (Gary), we explained our predicament and that we wanted to travel home asap. Within 10 minutes the flight was rebooked for us and we were on the 8.10 am flight back to Stansted. So, to sum this hotel and Go North Cyprus, if you want a holiday with peace of mind should you be unfortunate to find yourself needing to get back, then be assured that you cannot wish for better service. This just sums up the attitude of the management and staff at this hotel, nothing is too much trouble. As for Go North Cyprus from the minute we enquired about booking up to the return home, they were there for us.
