“Christmas Holiday”
Reviewed January 23, 2011

This was our 7th visit to the Ship Inn over Christmas and New Year. This year we flew into Larnaca and found this to be quite satisfactory. We stayed (five of us) in the 2 bedroomed self catering villa and it was perfect for us. Clean linen and towels provided regularly and maid service every day. We took breakfast in the hotel as and when we fancied and it was more than adequate and something to suit everyone. They have a new restaurant now within the hotel called the Grand Sofra and I have to say it was very good. Most of the food cooked on a barbecue in front of you and very tasty. We tried the half board menu several times and it was good value for money. All the staff at the Ship are so obliging and helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. My youngest son is a fussy eater but they provided something for him that was not on the menu without any bother atall. The weather this year was lovely and sunny and my mum and I spent a fair time sat on sun loungers around the pool just relaxing. When the weather was cooler in the late afternoon just pop into the bar and they will light a log fire for you to enjoy while you read your books and just relax. The Christmas and New Year's Eve meals were fine and we enjoyed both of the evenings. No hesitation in returning to the Ship again and we would not consider staying anywhere else. It caters for all our needs and we like the fact that you only have to cross the road outside to catch the local dolmus to take you into town. Look forward to our next trip to the Ship.

As a frequent visitor to the Ship, we often tell people what value for money it is. The staff are really good and the hotel is lucky to have them! So we booked for a 3 night stay for New Year and paid extra for the half board option.

I have to say the entertainment was a huge let-down! A disinterested bellydancer and a guy who couldn't sing a note and who left before the new year fireworks had finished exploding, or so we were told, as we left early and returned to our room!!!!

Cater for your audience. Rule 1. The new local rule of 'discouraging' non TC entertainers really backfired. That probably means no more english entertainers who know how to play music ... dance and disco music. Sure, play local music too as there were a large number of locals there. I don't like Elvis Parsley, but I like his music even less when its destroyed by a warbler!

Ship management. Please learn a lesson. Next year some proper entertainment please!!! We will not be going again if we are not sure that decent entertainment is 'on the menu'.

There were lots of rumblings of discontent but most people we spoke to just decided to try and make something of it. Good luck to them.

As for the rest of the stay, as usual, up to the ships normal standards. Great staff. Thanks Zube and the crew!

Having read the reviews before we booked we were expecting to enjoy our stay.We stayed over the Xmas period for 5 nights and booked and paid 3 month's in advance,The terms were Half board {Breakfast and Evening Meal } The Evening Meal would be from a set menu. Christmas Eve we were told that we could only have the Christmas Dinner if we paid extra!!! Even though no set menu was available. We decided that we would have to pay the extra as it was too late to find an alternative venue. Made us very cross!!! Christmas Dinner was very poor!! We left a day early and will not be returning to The Ship.We have stayed in some of the Best and worst Hotels in the World !!! Would not recommend this establishment to our friends!

Stayed at the Ship the last week in october, thoroughly enjoyed it. Zube and all the staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. You were treated as if at a 5* hotel. The hotel supplied everything you could need. Car hire was extremely reasonable at only £20.00 per day and they had their own taxi for taking you out and bringing you back if you preferred. The meals were excellent and very varied. We were on halfboard so had set menu in the evening but we always had several choices, and it was a different menu each day. It is located stightly out of Kyrenia, but we walked there and back a few times with no great effort - however it may have been a different story in the heat of the summer! The clients were of mixed age group from pensioners to families with young children (who really enjoyed playing in the huge outdoor pool!) All in all we had a really great time and are looking forward to returning to beautiful northern cyprus and staying at the Ship again!

Whilst it was a taxi ride from town it was still ideally located. It was nice to walk around the harbour and to eat there on occassion but it was still nice to spend time at the Ship. It is a must to hire a car whilst there for a few days again the Ship can arrange this at a reasonable price.
Centrally located for days out at Famagusta Nicosia and for general places of interest.
Plenty to do if you just want to veg around the pool. The site of the mountains as a back drop every day was pleasant to see.
Staff at the hotel were most friendly offering good sound advise daily, easpecially "The map man" Zubi. We will almost certainly (like many others have done in the past ) visit again. A most enjoyable break for myself and my family

My wife, myself and our 6 month old daughter spent a night here last weekend. We were visiting Kyrenia for 2 days/1night and wanted somewhere simple, clean, friendly and value for money to stay. The Ship Inn was just that. I booked via their website and paid £40 for a twin room (doubles were fully booked even in October!) with breakfast included. The hotel is easy to find and about a mile from the beautiful old harbour in Kyrenia.
Check in was quick and painless although they had put us on the second floor despite us having a baby, pushcahir and there being no lift! However we carried the pushchair up the stairs and as we were only there 1 night it was no big deal for us. The room was a decent size with a balcony overlooking the pool area. There were tea/coffee facilites, mini bar, aircon, and a really good bathtub in the ensuite bathroom so had everything we needed. It was also clean which is a must when you have a baby.
We ate in the restaurant in the evening, our table was outside on the terrace where it was lovely and peaceful. Food was very good, local specialities with some international fare and a good selection of local and international wines, reasonably priced. Service was good and always with a smile, our daughter was a hit with all the staff!
The hotel was peaceful and quiet during the night and we slept well. Breakfast was decent, cereals, toast, eggs, fruit and local meats/cheeses etc all buffet style.
The clientele of the hotel tend to be more middle aged, predominantly British and most of those we spoke to had stayed many times, a testament to a good hotel. Nobody had a bad word to say about the place.
If you want 5 star, do not stay here, but if you want value for money, comfort, cleanliness and a friendly place, then I highly recommmend it!
