Remember when everything was formica all bathrooms were avocado, carpets and curtains were multi patterned, bedspreads were candlewick and wardrobes were made of old tea chests covered in laminate? If you do and you liked it you will love the Dome. We heard it had been refurbished but that must have been around 1971 - that said it is clean and pretty friendly. Everything is rather spartan plain white (but clean and freshly painted) white walls in the bedroom not a single painting or other distraction on the walls, TV very old style and about 14 inch screen which made the modern widescreen transmissions even smaller, also on the old style wall brackets high up so that if you want to watch in bed you need a telescope! we had twin beds but be careful if you sit too near the end to put socks on as the other end flies up! bathroom equally spartan but decent toiletries and plenty of towels (very clean again). So why give it four stars you may ask --- location is the answer right on the sea (not beach note - there is none) too cold when we were there but the seaward side leads through a pleasant pool area to the sea, and gives easy access to the sea which is crystal clear and you will see fish and if lucky even a turtle! The front of the hotel is on the main road along the sea front, short walk into the shopping area and along to the Castle and Harbour. Penty of dining opportunites around. Breakfast in the hotel is a buffet with plenty of selection but very much of a local flavour - if you like salad, cheese, pastries and chillies for breakfast you will be happy --if you would like full English or a selection of cereals you may be not be so pleased - very dodgy looking sausages! No fruit juices one day some sort of lemon squash and the next some kind of orange and beware the milk not off or anything just UHT and unusual tasting. Tried the Anchor Restaurant at the bottom of the car park and right on the sea very good sea food and fresh fish selection excellent value as well, dinner for two with wine including a whole fresh sea bass for around 35 euros hard to beat - asindeed is the value for money of the hotel not the luxury of some of the hotels in the area like the Rocks or the Colony but maybe a third of the price !
