Took us to the old times! Fascinating castle of Byzantine times provides beautiful view of Kyrenia and Mediterranean Sea. It consists of many sections and really astonishing how they build it so high to the mountains hundreds years ago.

Brilliant hike to the top. Weather can vary, so ensure you wear the right footwear and clothing. Like most places in the area lack of history information, you need to use your imagination a lot. It is a ruin, so be mindful no pretty rooms to look at. Cost about £1 for entry fee, like most tourist places in the area. We drove up to the restaurant area and there is free parking.

If you ever visit Kyrenia, then this hike is a must do! it sceneray is amazing from up there you can see all of Kyrenia.. not to mention the beauty of the castle itself. Phase three of the hike is not for everyone specially when you are going down... but if you are not fit enough you can always do phase 1 and phase 2 and have a lot fun + enjoy one of the best views here

The castle is all along to the top of the mountain. A lot of walking up and down, be ready to wear hiking staff or snickers. The view of the northern part of the island is spectacular from many spots. Balcony of the cafe on the middle level is one of these. Cafe restricts the visit of balcony to its clients which sounds odd as you already paid for a visit downstairs. They also charging 2 Eur for a cup of lemon syrup melted with some occasional water, just to sit on a balcony. No wonder, this charging is extremely local as a custom. But if you are on the north be ready for such reaping of your wallet on constant basis. Nevertheless, try to climb to the top, to platform with a carton knight, to mark the visit in your itinerary. There is also a gothic window to the west with a great view to the west and Throdos. This one is just straight passing the reservoir, on the small valley on the top. This one reminds Cicilian castles, particularly, Caccamo’ castle view. It is difficult to find the traces of pre-Byzantine time in the castle, as most of the buildings and fortifications seem from that period of island ownership. Some off the windows and arcs may have been of the venezian origin. Sort of museum installations are a bit humble and more of a fun rather than exposition or historical value. Not much of historical information within the structure but paper map given with the ticket is very convenient. In overall this is certainly a good spot for an active and history loving tourist.

This is well worth a visit, the views are stunning, and the rambling ruins a del;ight, with nooks and crannies everywhere.

It is certainly a climb, especially on a hot day, so come prepared

After a long and winding road we eventually reached the castle and I have to say the fantastic views were well worth the white knuckle drive up there !!

You need to be fit here as the best views from the top involve climbing up a lot of steps. Interesting history and medieval architecture.

Enjoyable day spent scrambling around an ancient fortress. You do need to be fairly fit, or take the steps slowly, there are lots! We loved the view, once at the top.
Cost about 8 lira each person

Its a fantastic place to visit. At a cost of 200 TL (about £27.50) for a taxi we had a very relaxed visit. The taxi was booked through the hotel and took us and came back for us 2 and a half hours later. We were able to take our time climbing to the top and then have a drink at the cafe at the bottom looking up and admiring the castle.
